I could use a set of goals to strive for in the early game. I made some fins, a welder and a knife and ... now what? Also i guess the reactor blowing up is an unstoppable event but does it change my environment significantly?

TBH I'm mostly talking about the early game - let's hunt some quartz/silver in caves - triggers 3 crash torpedoes.

I started a new game and... the game spawned me on top of a nest of gasopods. Right on top of them. Nothing quite like dying of yellow farts while crafting some food. Time to beeline an underwater base so I don't have to deal with those pests.

Just for fun I went into creative mode and explored that sheer cliff on the opposite side of the Aurora. Turns out there's nothing there, the cliff just keeps going and going and going until at about 3000m depth you get to very jagged rocky area that seems impossible for the Cyclops to navigate, but if you take the seamoth you can swim through some cracks and go underneath the landmass. again nothing there but it feels really claustrophobic to be swimming underneath this mass of rock with no exit except by turning back.

I'm trying to get back into subnautica, is it possible to create more schools of fish near your base (specifically the water-filled ones) by catching them elsewhere and releasing them? Or should i stick to aquariums inside my base for endless supplies of water? In a similar vein, what are the plants to plant inside a base?

I just got my first cyclops - this is a disappointing piece of arse for all the effort that goes into building it. I get that it's big and unwieldy, but it seems to attract enemies like an aquarium attracts algae, getting damaged creates fires which are an annoying distraction while trying to get away from the hostile, and I constantly feel like I'm driving blind even with the cameras. I'll probably park it outside my main base until I can get my hands on a sonar and defensive upgrade, I guess.

holy balls I'm starting to hate the resource constraints in this. No matter what I might want to build, it always ends up taking ten times as long because I'm out of [copper/titanium/gold/silver/...] I get that this is part of the survival genre gameplay loop but the amount of copper and titanium required in particular feels a bit excessive. double nine fucked around with this message at 13:40 on May 25, 2017 |

No matter what I might want to build, it always ends up taking ten times as long because I'm out of [copper/titanium/gold/silver/...] so err, a little help? I went into the sea treader's path for some items farming in my seamoth, I got a full inventory, went back to the surface, saved and quit. When I try and load the game, i instantly die and respawn in the pod. When I saved, there were no hostiles near me, I had at least 50% food & water, and I was above 200 meters. Additionally, I noticed that the save file is marked with ~20 minutes gameplay when I've already spent about a dozen hours on this playthrough. I've tried activating the console to toggle invincibility but that doesn't work. I have no idea what kills me. Any advice? Can I edit/view the save file somehow? edit: quote is not edit apologies for double post. double nine fucked around with this message at 19:34 on May 25, 2017 |

Question: what do you guys consider 'must have' in a base? I've set up a small-ish but fully functional base in the lost river - power from a geyser, some food from plants, water dispenser, fabricator, battery & cell charger, and a moonpool. I'm probably going to add a scanner room since I've never used one and this place seems like it might be a useful location to try them.

I wish there was some kind of automap functionality in the game, to make navigating areas like the deep barrier reef or finding your way back to wrecks/landmarks/... more pleasant. I've been relying on a wiki-made map for a while now in order to make the wandering-around aimlessly part of the game less unpleasant.

yeah, there's nothing really wrong with the short air tanks - it's unrealistic and game-y but provides a fun source of tension, esp. when exploring caves or wrecks. Speaking of, I've literally never used a dive reel. Is it good for anything at all?

Do creatures in alien containment units need to be one-species only to breed? I've got 2 fishbowls with 2x2 critters and the population doesn't change even after extended trips. Also I've played too much dark souls because I'm constantly conflating titanium with titanite and it's starting to annoy me.

So I've progressed through the plotline to its current end (got to the giant aquarium, have the enzyme, but given the giant "we haven't programmed in the next bit" signposts am putting the game on hold for now, and am eagerly awaiting the next update. Fun tidbit is I've deliberately ignored the radio messages, so the early rescue ship event hasn't happened (yet). So if/when I finally get my hands on the cure, I'm gonna shut down the cannon and see if the devs thought of that possibility.
