It's my birthday!

:dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WY87o9IZXWg

Ok, it was actually yesterday, but I was born in the evening, so it's technically the same day... :mmmhmm:

To celebrate, I've put together the third and final version of my all-time favorite songs, movies, video games, and TV shows.

All comments are welcome, whether it be love, hate, complete apathy, or your own favorites. All I ask is that you please do your best to keep things at least halfways on topic, ok?

:cheers:

For what it's meant to be, which is a mindless summer disaster/adventure movie, I find it to be technically perfect. There isn't a single moment where I lose interest or cringe*. The situations and characters are silly, but in the most fun way possible. Fantastic action, effects, and cinematography as well.

*Ok, the opening where the father gets sucked up but his family just a few feet away survives requires some SERIOUS suspension of disbelief, but thankfully, it happens just a few minutes in and you can quickly forget about it.

I haven't played Morrowind, but after playing Oblivion, I could never play a technically inferior version. I hear that some elements of MW are deeper and more varied, but Oblivion's got a bigger world, better graphics, better AI, more voice acting, and so on. Call me shallow, but Ob's "wow" factor gets me every time.

Skyrim, like Banjo-Tooie, is a classic example of bigger but not better. It's got more of everything, but it's all the same. Greybrown wastes, low quest variety, predictable dungeons. Even the dragons eventually get old. I've put about the same amount of time into both games (nearly 200 hours each), and I'm completely burnt out on Skyrim, but still have some left in the tank for Oblivion.

Well, I'm not sure I agree, but that's sound reasoning. I'd recommend trying out heavily modded Morrowind at some point. There are enough mods at this point to drastically improve graphics and combat, as well as some quality of life improvements. It's also the most hand-crafted of all of the TES games, and if you're looking for depth, then it definitely has that.

This phrasing seems telling; don't kill yourself, OP. YOU'VE STILL GOT TIME TO DISCOVER BETTER TASTE IN MEDIA! You didn't even include Sonic 3's Ice Zone theme song or Vectorman 2 for Genesis.

Nope, they don't make the list. Not bad, though - Vectorman 2 reminds of these songs that occasionally tickle my fancy...

Thanks for the thread, OP. I think that Post Your Favorite (or Request) was a good place to post your list of favorites (or requests) and so I'm glad you came here instead of, say, D&D, where your favorites would have been subject to a great deal of criticism. That was a shrewd move. Also, a belated happy birthday, I hope that it was nice.

The only favorite we have in common is Unreal Tournament 2003, but it is a very good favorite to have in common, probably, so my compliments on your excellent taste.

Only because there's no good transfer of the original cut. Before they added in all the special edition stuff, they restored the film to full quality, and it looks miles ahead of the old releases (and the messed up ones that have come after).

BTW, I am aware of the various originaltrilogy.com bootlegs - though not available in HD, the official '97 release looks more consistent. Maybe, someday, they'll scan a 35mm of the '97 (better odds than The Powers That Be doing the right thing)...
