It's been a while since I've had to do any tweaking on a game, looks like I'll have to fiddle around a bit and see what happens. SGSSAA is definitely hell on water - try setting reflections to "Medium." Fixed the FPS drop for me and no real noticeable visual impact. It's worth trying to keep if you can for things like chain link fences and other numerous things like that. Also don't be afraid to putter around with the AA setting - 4xS is just a base, you can try things like 8xSQ if you have a powerful system. At some point it'll kinda get overdone. I'm playing in 1600p and the 4xS is about right for me at that resolution. I'll write a guide as soon as I finish this delivery.

Nvidia Inspector Guide for SGSSAA and better Antialiasing than the in-game settings: Anyone with a fairly powerful nvidia card (GTX 670 or better) may be able to use Sparse Grid Supersampling for much better visuals in ETS2 and ATS. This guide is valid for both SLI and single-card systems. Here's a short guide on how to make this happen: 1.) Download Nvidia Inspector from here: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/nvidia-inspector-download.html 2.) Unzip somewhere and run it. 3.) Click the icon that looks like a wrench and screwdriver to the right of the driver version. 4.) Select the profile for Euro Truck Simulator 2 in the upper left. You can type "euro" and then it'll narrow it down for you. 5.) If you'd like to use this for both ETS2 and ATS, use the "add program" icon on the top to add the executable for ATS to the profile, which will be in <Steam Location>\steamapps\common\American Truck Simulator\bin\win_x64\amtrucks.exe or if you have it somewhere else, wherever that is. 5a.) If you'd like to use this only for ATS, you'd have to create a new profile and copy over all the default settings, which is outside the scope of this tutorial. If you don't have ETS2, it won't hurt to use the ETS2 profile. 6.) First, change the Antialiasing Compatibility flag near the top to 0x080012C1 which is accomplished by clicking on the Antialiasing Compatibility entry, and then on "Show Bit Value Editor" which is one of the buttons on the top. Enter the value into the "Value" box in the lower left, tab out of the field, and hit "OK." 6a.) Some users report problems with that value, specifically all road signs losing their texture. Other possibilities are 0x000010C1 or 0x000010C5 (thanks Hogo Fogo!). Feel free to try all 3 if you'd like, one of them should work. 7.) I recommend setting the Frame Rate Limiter to either 60 or 58. I use 58 because I was noticing a small amount of control lag with 60 and as stated in the option, setting it to 58 fixed the problem for me. This step is optional. 8.) Under the Antialiasing section, set the following: 8a.) Antialiasing - Mode: Override any application setting 8b.) Antialiasing - Setting: 4x [4X Multisampling] 8c.) Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling: 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling 8d.) Feel free to play around with the values for Antialiasing - Setting. You may like 4xS, and might even try values such as 8xSQ and so forth. Find the sweet spot for your system. I have SLI 970's running a 1600p monitor, and 4x seems to be about right for me. 9.) In the Texture Filtering section, set the following: 9a.) Anisotropic Filtering Mode: User-defined/Off 9b.) Anisotropic Filtering Setting: 16x 9c.) Texture filtering - Quality: High quality 9d.) This entire section is somewhat optional. I noticed setting AF here looked somewhat nicer than setting it in-game, but YMMV. 10.) Hit "Apply changes" in the upper right corner. Note that driver updates may reset this, especially if you do a clean install of new drivers. It's also possible that when ATS gets a profile, it'll either override or break this. I'll try to update this if/when that happens. Here's a screenshot of mine: You're now set up driver-wise and you just need to change a few settings in-game for this to work: 1.) Set scaling to 100% 2.) Disable MLAA Give it a try! If you have initial problems with textures being wrong, try the other values in step 6a. Sparse Grid Supersampling also can play hell with water reflections, performance wise. If you're getting terrible performance near water bodies, try reducing in-game reflections to "Medium." Same goes for some of the mirror settings. Also feel free to play with the Antialiasing settings - you can try 2x or 2xSGSSAA. Play around with it. If you ever ruin the profile somehow, you can click the nvidia icon in the profile to load the defaults back. I'll update this as I have updates for it. ssb fucked around with this message at 17:27 on Feb 5, 2016 |

Figured out how to get all my local radio stations in-game last night. Was pretty easy once I found out that Chrome lets you look at all the network data a web page is pulling when you inspect the page. It basically gives you the direct stream link. Now I can listen to all the same

Does that work for services that use IHeartRadio? The weird thing is that I HATE my local stations, but I want them in my virtual trucking game... Turned on a framerate counter last night. My 970 with everything maxed and 400% gets 60 on the highways between cities and in cities about forty. It's perfectly fine and from what I gather the people with 970s having performance issues are waaaay below 40.

Playing euro 2 and i've just unlocked the option to upgrade from 4x2 to 6x2. Is this a good idea? also: I can now buy a taller cab. Does this do anything?

So what is up with the traffic lights that also have stop signs? Is that a Nevada/California thing, because we sure don't have it out here in Pennsylvania and it seems very stupid. (we have white signs pointing to the white line that say "stop here on red" at some intersections, but no stopsigns) I am assuming that this is just some odd screw up on SCS's part, and I just ignore them since the light is green.

Dark_Swordmaster posted:Does that work for services that use IHeartRadio? It, in fact, does. I wrote up a quick guide on how to do it. http://imgur.com/a/Wbhjb You can test the stream by copying the link into VLC or something. Sometimes there's some extra junk in the URL for your session, so you may have to strip some of that out. If you don't already know how to set up stations, here's another guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=289399041 Edit: What I mean by extra URL junk is this: http://54.145.20.232/entercom-kqrcfmaac-64?session-id=870113784&type=.flv&source=v6player&user-id=9009e17a-dcdb-4e41-bea9-ae47153de300 This the link for a local rock station I by using the above process. Notice how long this link is? Everything after the and including the question mark (?) can be removed. http://54.145.20.232/entercom-kqrcfmaac-64 All of the other stuff is session info and such being sent to the server and it's possible it might not play well with the game. I would recommend experimenting and testing your link out in VLC or something before going through the trouble of editing live_streams.sii and loading up the game and finding out it doesn't work. I can't guarantee this will work for all stations, but it worked for all the local ones I tried. xergm fucked around with this message at 19:02 on Feb 5, 2016 |

I'm willing to overlook a ton of annoyances because they're from out of the country. I also read that they acknowledged the stop signs at intersections were a mistake and would be fixed. I find the whole thing a lot funnier where people are complaining that roads curve a different way than they did in real life and so forth, and pitching huge fits about things like that. It seems a bit silly to me. If this were an actual simulator that tried for 100% accuracy, then sure, but it's a pretty loose usage of the word "simulator."

This is my truck. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My truck is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my truck is useless. Without my truck, I am useless. I must drive my truck true. I must drive faster than my enemy who is trying to beat me. I must take his jobs before he takes my jobs. I will... My truck and I know that what counts in truckin’ is not the distance we drive, the noise of our jake brake, nor the exhaust we make. We know that it is the deliveries that count. We will hit... My truck is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its engine and its transmission. I will keep my truck clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will... Before God, I swear this creed. My truck and I are the transporters of my country. We are the masters of logistics. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until victory is America's and there is no assignment, but peace!

I hit every city the first day I had the game, only taking very minor detours here and there to do so. It's not a big map at all. Long Distance Driving is a wasted skill in this game past the first 2 notches, for now. Cojawfee posted:You can do this with any steamable radio station, would be nice if I could pause it through ATS though. I know, I guess I didn't think about the pausing, I've never tried pausing the radio stations - it seems weird to me. I guess I can pause SiriusXM in my car but I never do, I figure it's radio, that's not how it works, even if it does these days. I'm old I guess. Also - I crabbed earlier about the game being insanely dark sometimes in the cab view. I think I figured this out. When you get tired, your view gets dimmer to represent your tiredness. It's supposed to reset back to normal when you sleep, but sometimes (always?) it doesn't, and you get stuck with a very dim first person view. It's very noticeable and makes driving at night very rough if you were on the edge of sleep when you finally slept. The fix for this is simply to save and reload your game.

It's super cool but a bit devoid of content and contains some weirdness with regards to interstates not behaving like interstates and a lot of weird implicit speed limits that aren't a thing in the US. I suspect it will all be corrected. With that said, I've played it basically nonstop for 3 days now and would not hesitate to buy it at list price because you know that they're going to update it with free (and some paid) content forever, and they're a great developer. I would recommend it despite its current faults. The devs deserve the benefit of the doubt here and it's fun anyways.

I think I'm going to take a break until the first patch. I'm having fun driving but it's being ruined by the game frustrating the hell out of me. The fines were out of control. I got a speeding ticket while going 2 over trying to get to a rest area. I got to the rest area and it was fenced off and I couldn't figure out how to get the gate to open. I almost hit a guy because the light turned yellow while I'm going through an intersection and he turns right in front of me. I also nearly hit people because they brake for no reason. The engines have no power at all. There don't seem to be any actual mountain passes, it's all just gentle hills. I don't know if the last two points have anything to do with each other. They didn't put any mountains in so they make the engines weak so it seems like a struggle to drive in the hills that should be mountains. The consequence is the truck struggles to go up any mild incline at all. This means any time a road goes up slightly, I'm constantly down shifting trying to find any gear that will do anything. Eventually I find a gear that lets me maintain the speed I've dropped to but won't increase. Dropping down gears again just leaves me banging off the rev limiter. The only chance I have of even reaching 80mph in nevada is the downhill section right after the state line which is cut short by being told I have to stop at the weigh station. By the time I got to the drop off, I was 2K in the hole and couldn't even park properly because I was so frustrated from the drive up there. Every time I deliver, it's 2 in the morning because my driver sleeps in so late. I can't even sleep 10 hours in real life, why the hell am I being forced to do so in the game?
