when I did CJ stuff and wasn't busy I would just have a bunch of terminals open with top/tail/etc running, and one with a .txt book from Gutenberg that I would less through

come to think of it I read most of the Western Canon that way

our offshore guys' logging pattern is to log when a method begins execution, log each conditional, and when the method is finished, plus a timestamp

yes but emacs keybindings are still better, because more stuff supports them
  • every gnu readline app (bash, ipython, irb, et al)
  • most osx cocoa applications (since they use the ctrl key, emacs commands don't overlap)
  • most gtk and qt applications (you have to toggle a preference for these guys)
