Could someone explains how this works to me? Every now and again a random extra soldier shows up in a mission with fairly weak stats, though the manpower is always useful. Is it a sitrep or something? Does Central comment on it? (I usually play without sound).

Also in my last game the fancy shotgun the Assassin has just disappeared into the ether for no reason I can figure. I didn't let someone die and leave the stuff behind, it just vanished between missions, any ideas why that might be?

The Chosen weapons are bugged and sometimes don't show up in the weapon menu unless you Make Weapons Available every time you look at someone. Maybe that's it?

I tried making weapons available tons of times, I also tried to put the last soldier that used it back into a squad. Nothing. Haven't seen it for like ten missions.

Christ the glitchiness of this game really annoys me sometimes.

Stupid question: are you using the scroll wheel to go through the weapon list? I find that the scroll interval is too big and has a tendency to cause you to miss items.

Oh, it is a resistance order, I just double checked and that was active in that game.

Resistance soldiers in general, including the ones that can show up with that order active, are deceptively powerful, so don't sell them short. They have no special gear or abilities, but their aim stat is obscenely good for what is essentially a rookie.

Resistance soldiers damage seems to scale with your research in haven defenses (they went from 2 damage a shot to 4 for me), and they get magnetic or plasma weapons if they join in your squad accordingly too. ADVENT is a little shittier but an extra grenade/stun can come in handy.

I don't know if this has been said before or not in the thread, I'm still crying from laughter. I ran into the greatest bug* in Xcom 2, get a Templar and upgrade them so they have a Wave attack with their melee hits, then luck out and get them to unlock the Bladestorm ability (auto melee hit dudes who run into you) then plant them on an advent reinforcement flare. The ragdolls are so good it took 30 seconds for the game to stop playing the animation of it falling to the ground.

Well you're buying a console version of XCOM 2, so you would be losing your patience with the dirt cheap port company 2K used either way.

Just downloaded and started a new game. But for some reason the keyboard mostly doesn't work. I did a search, but I can't seem to find anything that addresses my particular problem. I can use Esc and tab, but I can't rotate the controller, or use numbers that correspond to my soldiers' moves. Sometimes the game freezes for a few seconds if I try to use E or Q to rotate the camera. I'm not running any mods. Anyone have experience with this problem?

Without mods or tricking the game logic a little*, you have a limit on how many faction soldiers you can have at a time. For the faction you start with, you will get up to two, but the other two factions will only let you have one. I only mention this because it's a question that came up a lot. You really don't need to field a team of six faction soldiers at any time. Even one can be overkill.

*If a faction soldier is captured, their faction can offer a mission for a replacement as if they were dead. If you then rescue the captured soldier, you'll have gotten around the limit. The rescue mission isn't guaranteed to happen any time soon, though, so I wouldn't try to abuse this.

About to get WOTC. Anyone got an opinion on whether Skirmishers and SPARKs can fulfill the same "powerful anchor" role in a squad composition? Might get Shen's Last Gift too if SPARKs are also good.

Bogart

Get Shen’s, and definitely re: Sparks. Skirmishes have great mobility and battlefield control, but they lack the emergency button that Overdriving a Spark, rocket laucnhering, and shooting twice can. And sparks don’t get tired, which is huge.

Skirmishers are not a powerful anchor class. They're a squishy mix between a grenadier and pistol sharpshooter. A fantastic pairing is a skirmisher you bring close to exploit (or, with grenades, make) holes in the enemy's lines and a specialist with overwatch skills, a scope and mag extender to cut off access to the skirmisher's flanks.

And hell, since you brought them up, sparks make the perfect pillar to build a team with those two around.

Why are you retiring her? Sure she'll be spending a month getting therapy before you can send her out again but averaging 10 kills/mission means she should get to stay.

With how my last campaign on Legendary ended with being able to fight three or four pods with turns to spare (blaster bombs and war suits: Good) I think legendary grim dawn beta strike is going to keep me busy the next few months. I think I'm going to start with reapers this time too, though skirmisher base building is hilariously good.

The Chosen and Rulers will take loving forever to kill though.

I'm not retiring her -- I must have accidentally hovered over the dismiss button when I took the screenshot!

She's probably the best character I ever rolled, I'm not letting anything bad happen to her.
