I ended up giving up on my long war playthrough yesterday, I was regularly running into missions where there would be 4-5 pods with at least two of them being 4-6 muton elites at 30+ health and I just got bored with it.

Also mecs are tremendously lovely in long war to the point of not being worth using.

How are the aliens justifying terror missions now? Are they saying they're "sympathizers" or what

Is it a false flag thing?

No.

None of EU happened. None of it. Literally no point in that game is real.

Canon is someone else was playing XCOM, fell in March to the Council betraying you, and by June Earth capitulated. Between March/June they strapped the Commander to the simulation, which was the whole game.

The whole game was a simulation. They didn't capture the Commander midgame and keep the sim going from that point, they made a sim that started in Feb. And then when XCOM became a resistance movement instead, they altered the simulation to make it so you were fighting rebels. Then they tested how humans would react to gene mods/MECs.

wouldn't that mean that long war was some rear end in a top hat programmer playing a mean prank on you?

There are two plot skulljackings. To just slam into regular Advent you need to research Skullmining at the proving grounds. It'll pop up as another icon and also give the skull jack +25 tech power.

You can skullmine and skulljack in the same mission. Skullmining just goves intel and insta-kills with 70% hit rate. You only ever get to use skulljacking on an Advent officer and a Codex once.

Ohh, okay. That's really weird that they don't mention it, I thought I could just do it from the get go. Or if they do I just missed it.

I really think they should have put the 4/6-man thing to bed for XCOM2. It had a handwavy reason for existing because of console versions in the first game, but all you have to do for XCOM2 is point at the Avenger Defense missions to show it's perfectly feasible for the game to handle double that.

It would slow the game down too much. See: long war for an example, even though I love that mod.

That's kind of ugly. Kinda makes me want to make a version that completely removes the default health display and uses numbers on icons, Hearthstone style.

Realistically ( ) I think you would see nations at least trying to reemerge. 20 years isn't really that long. Like, if your high school graduation was the day the aliens invaded, they'd be overthrown before you were 40. That's not long enough to erase centuries or longer of the idea of, say, French or Japanese national identity. I mean, there would be a dozen different factions claiming to be the REAL United States, and it would be a huge nightmare of warlords and chaos, but....

I expect Firaxis to largely handwave that away and have the world situation in 3 be fairly vague and unspecific. Particularly if we do end up fighting Terror From the Deep Cthulu monsters.

I feel this would be more likely if the aliens hadn't 100% purged all governments when they came in. It's probably a city-state situation as of now, especially with the lost everywhere outside of the cities.

I'd say that's up in the air, but it's a reasonable assumption. Volk was pragmatic enough to give the alliance a chance, but he could easily have gone right back to hating them afterwards. But I'd assume there'd be at least some of the faction who followed along with Dragunova and stayed friendly with the Skirmishers, after the awkward forced cutscenes where she and Mox go from being ready to chop each other up to being best buds within 5 minutes.

Edit: I hope Xcom3 brings back half of the star trek cast to do all their voice work again.

I mean if that's canon Dragunova personally helping to bust Mox out after he saved her probably did an enormous amount of work w/r/t repairing relations between the factions

I'm almost done with the game and it's pretty fun but I have some issues, mainly with how few healing options you have available (you either carry a medkit or your team has terminal permanently affixed), how the game really should reward you more for captures, and how the strategic layer seems pretty weak, especially once you hit the endgame and you're basically just bouncing cooldowns.

E: like the enemies in this game do an insane amount of damage, most of them will do 5-7 damage per shot.
