I wish all racing series did this kind of thing. Obviously that's a total pipe dream and never gonna happen due to licensing and TV contract money and all that stuff, but I certainly would watch a hell of a lot more racing if I didn't have to hunt for lovely low-quality streams on dodgy websites or buy horribly overpriced pay-TV packages. Maybe we'll get there sometime around the year 2084...

Seems as if all of the official webstreams of races have been sponsored by manufacturers. Nissan is doing the 12h now. Audi usually does the Nurburgring 24h. Doesn't Mazda and Corvette do streaming too?

It might actually be more of an incentive to manufacturers to kick in for official HD livestreams, either with one of them being the full sponsor or several of them kicking in to fund it.. Makes it way easier for those loyal to the brands to follow the race, and for race fans to get more exposed to the brands that are racing. People will probably be much more likely to watch a whole race (like us) if they could easily/legally access it over the Internet. Car makers would definitely want to see that, even if the TV networks would balk at it.

Seeing it with this framing in the video really makes you realize that a car like this is literally just an engine with wheels attached to it.

Only suffered a broken collarbone, I hear. Sheer luck that the car didn't roll over in a way that would have decapitated him or landed on someone in the pedestrian tunnel he fell into.

20 or 30 years from now we're going to look back at the open wheel cars of today and wonder why the heck it took so long to enclose the cockpits.

All the things happened at the end of the IMSA race. A brake failure at turn 1 and a big boom into the tires, a GT Corvette spinning himself out of second place, a Porsche punting the leading Corvette at the hairpin to take them both out, the Delta Wing catching fire, a great P battle at the front all race long, and a last-lap random spin and crash for good measure.

gently caress that Porsche, man.

Non-Nurburgring news. Apparently there was a very bad crash in PWC at Lime Rock Park.

http://sportscar365.com/gt/world-challenge/palmer-de-la-torre-transported-to-hospital-after-major-accident/

quote:

Andrew Palmer and Jorge De La Torre have been airlifted to Hartford Hospital following a massive accident in warmup for this afternoon’s Pirelli World Challenge round at Lime Rock Park.

Palmer’s No. 87 Bentley Team Absolute Bentley Continental GT3 made heavy contact with a a stationary No. 4 Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 of De la Torre in the Turn 1 runoff.

Eyewitness reports indicate that Palmer’s car catapulted over the Aston Martin upon impact and flew into the air before coming to rest in a wooded area, past several tire barriers.

The cause of the accident is unknown, although de la Torre’s car had stopped in the runoff area prior to Palmer’s arrival, at nearly full speed.

It took more than 20 minutes to extricate Palmer from the car.

Both drivers were initially transported by ambulance to Sharon Hospital, and per a track representative, have since been airlifted to Hartford Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center.

Their conditions have not been disclosed.

Track action has been halted as Connecticut police continue an investigation report.

State law mandates local police must file accident reports for any motor racing accident resulting in a driver being transported to a hospital.

No word has been given on a revised schedule, of if track action will resume today.

I hope everyone is okay.

At first I got onto a Fox stream since it synced up closest with the Radio Le Mans feed. Then I realized that commercials ruin the endurance racing experience. I ultimately paid for the WEC stream, though I lament not being able to stay awake during the final hours for the finish.
