Atley's is crap imo and shouldn't have been a finalist over Gresham's against the Cats:

In context Gresham's goal was easily the best of the year. The skill, poise, and composure and the fact that it essentially won them the game

1. Nic Naitanui (West Coast)

Such an influential player at his best, he’ll miss a lot of next season with injury.

2. Todd Goldstein (North Melbourne)

Dropped away a bit in 2016, but remains one of the best in the competition.

3. Max Gawn (Melbourne)

All-Australian after a career-best season where he averaged 14.4 disposals and 42.2 hit-outs.

4. Aaron Sandilands (Fremantle)

The 211cm big man played only five games last year due to a big knock to his ribs.

5. Shane Mumford (GWS Giants)

The most imposing ruckman in the game, he continues to influence matches at will.

6. Sam Jacobs (Adelaide)

Had a relatively down year by his standards in 2016, but remains one of the league’s best.

7. Kurt Tippett (Sydney)

Had a strong start to the year before injury derailed his campaign. Can also go forward.

8. Patrick Ryder (Port Adelaide)

Missed the 2016 season due to suspension, but is still a versatile tall prospect.

9. Ivan Maric (Richmond)

Played only three games last season and struggled, but remains in the top 10.

10. Tom Nicholls (Gold Coast)
The youngster stepped into the top ruck role at the Suns last season and flourished.

Yep. Gresham's goal also won the weekly nomination with the highest weekly vote of any goal that year with 84% of the vote (Next best was EDDIEBETTS winning goal at 81%).

Champion Data ruck Ratings

Ok. I'm normally pretty alright with CD's rating and stuff but I'm not even sure I can defend this. The whole two years of games really works against their ratings in a lot of ways but even taking that into account I don't see how Maric gets in over Hickey. The thing that adds to my confusion is that the ratings in these articles differs from the ones on the CD official ratings website if you go for specific positions.

What in the actual gently caress? Maric would barely rate in the top 50 ruckmen around the league.
Chol would be elevated from the rookie list and get a game before Maric I reckon.

Thanks to whoever suggested the NIxon hotel as a place to go near Etihad. They had $6 pints and a decent parma.

It was then followed up by a absolutely ridiculous game of T20. Combined total of 445 runs (with the first team scoring an all time record) with the winning runs coming on the last ball. Cricket is still is poo poo compared to footy though.

I turned it off a couple of over into the Hurricane dig, they were 3/30 or so and I thought there was zero chance of them being able to win - pretty annoyed when I ended up seeing the bloody score this morning.

1. Patrick Dangerfield (Geelong)

Clearly the best midfielder in the competition following an outstanding year.

2. Nat Fyfe (Fremantle)

Would be capable of challenging Dangerfield for the mantle, provided he regains fitness.

3. Josh Kennedy (Sydney)

Another super consistent season saw Kennedy take the role as Sydney’s new skipper.

4. Robbie Gray (Port Adelaide)

The prolific ball winner is also able to frequently get forward and impact on the scoreboard.

5. Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs)

It’s hard to believe the classy youngster is still only 21, such has been his impact on the game.

6. Scott Pendlebury (Collingwood)

The classy Collingwood skipper enjoyed another consistent campaign to average 28.6 disposals.

7. Rory Sloane (Adelaide)

The ever-reliable Sloane led from the front and by example in the Crows midfield last season.

8. Gary Ablett (Gold Coast)

The former skipper has played only 35 games in the last three years to fall down the rankings.

9. Joel Selwood (Geelong)

Relished the opportunity to play alongside Dangerfield last season, averaging 28.3 disposals.

10. Luke Parker (Sydney)

Continued to improve last season, averaging 26.9 disposals and a goal per game with the Swans.

This is probably the closest to a good list they've done. Gray too high for mine, but nothing jumps out as god awful unlike the other lists.

e: Simon Goodwin's reign of terror continues, Liam Hulett doing an ankle at training and not being able to put any weight on it adding to Christian Salems near death experience being hit in the head by a brick and Dom Tyson's patella

There's some skilled players out there, and I'm including the ones who look good but are just missing targets by foot because preseason, but there's also more than a few that have some really ordinary kicking techniques, amongst other things.

There were some skills a bit low even in the exhibition games, and the talent pool has expanded to four times the size, so it's natural for the first few seasons (and the fact that there aren't any fully professional players)
