Probably because to anyone only just old enough to remember the Gulf War, if that, it's all fighter and drone launched guided missiles all the time now, and there's only three bomber types left in the entire fleet - none of which have gotten much of a run out in recent times. Or, you know, most Americans are really bad at any history not spoon fed to them no later than 5 years ago by TV shows.

The AFL also doesn't give the slightest gently caress about state league teams, their care only extends as far as the state bodies keeping their U16 and U18 competitions in top order, so that the feed into the draft is never hindered. West Adelaide could go full New New York Mets with their senior line up and the AFL wouldn't care.
