The vid description seems to indicate that they were acting for the camera, so the obnoxiousness could be intentional. And they were college students.

Embellished or not, that kind of joy is quite something to behold. Although it got tiring to watch after a few minutes.

Yeah they explain in the reaction video that they were playing it up for the camera.

Musk really hosed up their corporate image.

Teslas used to be the car you could splurge on but still feel good about because it's electric and you're saving the planet. It's a lot harder to maintain that feel good sense of superiority when the CEO is a gigantic rear end in a top hat.

I don't think that can happen at this point unless something profoundly stupid happens. Starship adventurism aside, the reusable rockets are just too economical to abandon.

SpaceX has the advantage of producing something that doesn't currently have a good alternative. ULA, which was basically the defense contractors who made rockets for launches couldn't compete since they were just coasting, and Russia can't really do anything new. Maybe China will eventually show up with something similar, although I doubt they would sell it to NASA.

Tesla did have an advantage, but other car manufacturers have started coming into the EV space so they actually have competition. EVs are things that they already had some experience with, they just chose not to pursue it at the time.

There's also a realization that oh wait, the way we design cars means that even Tesla's are godawful heavy because of their batteries so they wreck roads more and burn through tires faster. Oh wait... there hasn't been a widespread realization of that. Yet.
