Mech combat could have been qte for all I care. I think I speak for everyone when I say we deserve a mech fight

The mech fight changes nothing about the gameplay flow except that the environments are now cityscapes and you're permanently in Berserk where you can alternate M1 and M2 to deliver rip & tear combos on an army of Titans

The worst crime is that they don’t have the player pull the trigger when shooting a hole into Mars.

kinda sucks that the cultists went to all that effort to build a demon possession station and you only get to use it once

Mech segments should be a rail shooter rhythm game with the usual Doom metal. Hell, I'd play a standalone game like that.

I hope the creators make the next Doom have a purposefully confusing story as a way to get people to complain about the story in a doom game (a game that has historically had great and fleshed out stories).

There is basically nothing stopping GigaDoomguy from playing exactly the same as RegularDoomguy.

Icon of Sin should've started with Hayden having repaired your doom mech and sending it over, telling you you can't beat it without the giant robot. Doomguy then rips a vital part out of the mech to get better at killing demons hand to hand.

Doomguy destroys the icon of sin armor and the mech at the same time and then jumps inside the icon to fight his big guts

I love everything about this game mechanically except I feel as if 'mastery' is just remembering to hit everything on cooldown. Belch, grenades, even dashes. I'm oddly unexcited to do a nightmare playthrough unless I do it on a new save with none of the progression unlocked.

Wait if I finished on UV can I replay on Nightmare with all my toys?

I don't think you can do a proper campaign playthrough but you can replay all the missions on Nightmare difficulty for sure. You can adjust difficulty any time in the options menu.

I know the traditional way to make mechs feel big is to make them slow, plodding and shaky, but we can definitely just have a fast giant robot that moves like doomguy and have it feel huge by making the movement noises proportionally louder with more controller shake. Also make the music louder, and if it has cannons you obviously have to make those loud with a deep boomy bass end of the report with echo and burn trails to show how powerful the projectiles are, with controller shake as well so it feels like you're punching something, just farther away. You can do it, you just have to embrace the violence.

All they had to do was make the second fight require you to Attack on Titan grapple up to his face and land a punch. Guess they felt they already did that with the Kahn Mayker fight.

Does Hayden do anything - apart from narrate - after you save him? There's so many dopped threads, like the Doom Mech, Olivia's Statue, the weird story order ... interesting game

No, it's really disappointing. There's no confrontation or reckoning over his choices in the last game, no explanation of his total personality shift, and no hint about the new status quo. He clearly has some designs on Urdak but it's not explored at all.

Hayden is the guy trying to have a serious science fiction story but he's in a Doom game so he can't deliver any exposition since the only thing that doomguy does aside from kill demons is rub up against doors and grunt, hoping it will open to reveal more demons

Literally the only thing Hayden does in this game is deliver exposition, minutes of it, usually while you're trapped in an elevator or cage or something being taken from one place to another so you can't even skip it.

He traps doomguy on mars (or hell, or somewhere) and it's barely acknowledged. maybe it was a holiday inn or something but you'd think doomguy would be a little cheesed. really the least he could do is drop the doombot in to escalate the final boss fight a bit.

I hate that The Crucible somehow turned into a reproducible tool between 16 and eternal

The Crucible is yet one more thing that would've fit way better in a Quake game than it does in Doom. imo replace the crucible with a powered-up chainsaw with double the pips and increase the number of gas cans (and/or alternately reduce the gas needed to saw demons) The game doesn't really need a "delete this" button that hard imo but if you're gonna do it there's an awesome chainsaw right there instead of reaching for the high fantasy sword rabble rabble rabble

Other than that, I'm with you. Mechanically, it just feels clunky and weird as gently caress. It doesn't feel "DooM". And I never even thought of it being a better fit for Quake. I gotta agree (but I'm referencing Quake1).

Honestly there's enough references to Quake across 2016 and Eternal that I wouldn't be surprised if they did a multiverse hop where Doomguy and Quakeguy team up to fight Chulhu demons.
