Methinks this deserves a proper thread. So yeah, GameTrailers.com and its associated YouTube and Twitch channels are toast after 13 years of service. The staff only got the news yesterday morning, and they're officially out of the building as of today. Viacom-era shows: Pop Fiction/Facts Pach-Attack! Invisible Walls Bonus Round GT Retrospectives GT.TV (aired on Spike) Backtrack Level Defy Media-era shows: The Final Bosman Huber Hype GT Time GT Live GT Countdown Mandatory Update (feat. Jolly Cooperation) The First Fifteen Don's Design Lab Tabletop Adventures Trailer Score This is in addition to the usual previews, reviews, and editorials, voiced by the god-tier Brandon Jones. They were also the undisputed kings of E3 hype, always culminating with Kyle Bosman's and Michael Huber's Final Bets. Daily Twitch streams as well. A well-rounded package, in good times and bad. GT Time was my absolute favorite game discussion panel. These guys were broad, knowledgeable, hardcore, and always cheerful. A great way to brighten up your week. They'd been dying a slow death ever since they lost that sweet Viacom dough, and in turn their big-budget programming. Insofar as you can really trust or rely on any review site, this one tended to jive most with my own post-purchase findings, so this is quite sucky In addition to aforesaid suck of getting laid off with hours notice, go eat a bag of hell Defy Media t

I liked their reviews, but what really bums me out is the loss of The Final Bosman. I hope he can find a way to keep making those videos--I loved the tone he struck in those.

Their reviews were the most well made of its kind (the consistent narrator helped) and it was pretty much the de facto place to check for random new trailers, so I'm really surprised the site's shutting down. The sudden finality of the closure makes me wonder just what happened behind the scenes, though.

Yeah over the years I found myself agreeing with a lot of their opinions which made it a nice place to check out reviews for games I was interested in. Up until the really recent site design that is, that rendered it unsearchable and apparently made the video player stop working. I read somewhere that the broken redesign happened shortly after Defy Media purchased the site, so it almost sounds like they were planning to buy and close it from the start.

They were one of the few places that, when doing a fluff Top 10/Worst 10 piece they'd actually recognize when things didn't align with their original review scores, usually because the person who did the review was no longer there and sometimes the staff honestly had no idea who did the original review. Like they don't know how Perfect Dark Zero got a nine from them back in the day. The review just showed up on the site out of nowhere and we never questioned it. I do remember their GOTY awards having wonky outcomes before Shane left, if only because I think he had some weird mandates concerning how things worked. So a game like Modern Warfare 2 ended up winning best title on every individual platform it was available due to some domino effect bullshit. But like I said the awards, and pretty much the site in general seemed to change for the better and bring in new viewers after the first major shakeup.

I always liked how consistent their video reviews were in terms of editing and presentation. Having Brandon be the sole voice of these reviews with his amazing voice really cut above the videos IGN and Gamespot put up with people who sounded like they were using a $15 microphone from Walmart. Hoping these guys find new homes fast.
