There used to be an old thread here about fathom events and such coming up, but I couldn't find it. I'm hoping to go to the 1925 "Ben Hur" remix by Stewart Copeland (of the Police!) this month, maybe it's on tour and has/will go near your town? I'll post after what I thought of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmpgGuBqtcg -Forewarning, he did cut about an hour of it, from 2.5 hrs to 1.5, while remastering it and creating his score. I saw some of the original on TCM last year and really liked it. Bonus factoid: the Heston 'Ben Hur' version just copied the chariot race choreography from the 1925 version since it was so good already. Here's the link if curious, there's even a 65 dollar version where you get to do or watch some kind of interview with Copeland, it's probably lame though. http://www.stgpresents.org/paramoun...f-the-christ-em Newspaper article with some quotes from Copeland about it too: http://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/movies/drummer-stewart-copeland-pounds-out-new-score-for-1925-ben-hur-in-silent-movie-mondays/ got any sevens fucked around with this message at 08:16 on Feb 12, 2016 |

^ It was awesome, both the soundtrack and the movie. I hope Copeland releases a dvd of it. Here's something else touring the country: Kurosawa's Ran! 4k restoration!!! http://www.rialtopictures.com/ran.html

I go to school in Athens, Ohio and there's this sweet old timey (Art Deco) theater that shows Classic movies I guess you might say. They do specials dedicated to certain directors like they just finished one for Charlie Kaufman, and last year there was David Lynch. Also every year in April there is the Athens International Film and Video Festival which is really cool and gets lots of sweet independent movies and stuff. It's a real treasure of a cinema and I'm ashamed that I've only really taken advantage of it in my last semester here.

So somehow Cinequest (in San Jose) added The Little Prince to its final day screening, which usually is reserved for encore showings. For those who missed the news, it was supposed to open in the US this week but Paramount just dropped it. Tomorrow (March 13) only, 3:30 p.m. at the Hammer Theatre. I work Thursday so I'll miss Spike, sadly. On the bright side, I may be able to go to the one with Richard Linklater for Everybody Wants Some later this month: http://tiff.net/winter2016-special-events/richard-linklater-on-everybody-wants-some

drat, this was gorgeous on the big screen. Just saw it today at the uptown theater, which even sells beer and wine! First time I'd been in a theater that does that. The movie was really good too, even if the plot is a bit confusing on the first watch, the visuals are the main treat.

Last Friday there was a showing of Saddest Music in the World here in Portland, with director Guy Maddin in attendance and Michael Hurley doing a 30 minute set before the film. It was dope. Penelope Spheris is coming here for some anniversary(?) showing of Suburbia and some short films some time this summer. Stoked. I caught when the same theater showed Decline of Western Civilization 1-3 with her in attendance. I'm not really on top of this poo poo, but I like this thread.
