I don’t know. I can just as easily see an interview coming out after the tour where the members all say “the tour really brought us back to our roots and reminded us how much we love music and being around each other and blah blah blah”.

Why are they even going on tour in the first place if not to kick the tires? None of them need money and touring at their age isn’t a ton of fun.

New Radiohead interview before the tour.

This is a very interesting one that kinda dives into how they’ve been feeling about a lot of things since the AMSP tour. Lots of stuff about Thom/Jonny and the Israel situation.

Most interesting though is Ed being the most hesitant to get back together. He’s polite about it, but it feels like he was a little estranged from the band for various reasons and took some convincing to come back.

Also Ed is responsible for Let Down being on OKC.

what a spineless band

This is definitely the sense i got too. Tbh i dont blame them if theyre all kind of over it with regards to going to through the whole rigamarole of making an album together when its always a long rear end process. Theyre old and coasting (at least in this band), it happens. It was a good run though

Same. Before the shows were announced someone was sharing that they may not happen because of tensions in the band and seeing that they have separate dressing rooms for the first time makes me think that may have been true. Was around the time Ed shared support for Kneecap's Glastonbury performance iirc.

I think the one-two punch of Yorke repeating back the I/P protests mockingly and Colin being into AI art just dealt the death blow to my fandom for this band.

Pair this with the rumors that Nigel isn’t on speaking terms with the band anymore, and it definitely seems like not all is well in the Radiohead camp. This tour definitely has a “couple’s therapy before the divorce” vibe to it.

Stanley Donwood is still producing promotional art though, isn't he? Wonder if he's just grinning and bearing it since he's actively pro-Palestine with donations etc.

I hope this isn't blasphemous but in a certain sort of way I'd argue Donwood is more important to the band than Godrich (both being extremely important, don't get me wrong).

After seeing that article I kinda feel like they should have just stayed quietly broken up. There aren't enough shows and they're too professional that it'd happen, but I'd almost imagine an Oasis-style meltdown is more likely than the band expanding the tour and/or recording more material. I dunno, it just seems like things are not great and this is basically it.

Yeah, it's really sad. I saw them twice in London - supporting In Rainbows and King of Limbs - and was blown away both times by how tight they were as a unit, how good the vibes were, how tuned into the crowd. Even if I had the chance I don't know if I'd see them on this tour. With everything that's happened over the last few years, and every interview feeling worse than the last, I'd be too apprehensive.

That setlist reads as a "one last big tour" thing to me.

And it's probably for the best. I don't think Thom has a lot left to say that people really want to hear on a grandiose thematic level that Radiohead albums typically reach for.

The setlist is about as good as it gets short of a few tracks and a severe lack of Amnesiac. That combined with the arena rock style layout which I don't think they've ever done before and I can see where you're coming from. They sounded pretty good for not playing together for seven years, but three of them are within a couple years or so of 60 and I honestly just can't imagine them doing another album at this point.

I can see them doing one more album but that'll probably be the last one and will be billed as such. Not even sure how excited I'd be for it anymore though.

I looked up the setlist because I figured they would've played this track 1st or 2nd, and sure enough it was the second song they played:

I dont think Thom wanted to blow his voice out wailing through the bends early on.

Yeah, he was on point for later songs in the set. He’s pushing 60 and trying not to immediately gently caress his vocal cords at the start of the tour.
