It's an ISIL suicide vehicle bourne IED that was propelled into the air by I think an air strike, the occupants blew themselves up before gravity did the job for them. As for Diana if you're British you still have to deal with ARE DIANA, THE PEOPLE'S PRINCESS!!! poo poo from the media, though that's died down a bit in recent years. Who knows with the 20th anniversary coming up next year though!

It's not "why arabs lose wars" though, it's "why tinpot dictatorship armies lose wars". Like the lessons in there can be applied all over the place to armies that could threaten a coup, no dictator is going to let their army get more competent than it is loyal. Hell, look at the direction Turkey is heading in now after all the purges. Putting it down to "Arab's only value tribal ties" or whatever is on the same level as when Westmoreland said North Vietnam won the war because "Orientals don't value human life".

Blind Rasputin posted:Trench warfare must’ve had to be the most godawful thing to ever exist during WWI. The one saving grace is that there was comparitively little actual fighting between trenches in WWI - you would have to be quite unlucky to actual be involved in a "going over the top" offensive as most of the time most sectors were pretty quiet. Being involved in an actual offensive would have been pretty horrific on any side though, yeah. Plenty of Germans went insane prior to the Somme thanks to being stuck in chalk dugouts that were shelled non-stop for 2 weeks. WWI fighting outside of the trenches (right at the start and right at the end) was no joke either - 329,000 Frenchmen were killed in the first month of the war, prior to both sides digging in.

Wooden ships on the other hand... Can't find it now but there's a video of a team firing a cannon at a replica side of a wooden hulled sailing ship, and a load of wooden people silhouettes just getting completely demolished by high speed splinters. poo poo was no joke. Also someone on the milhist thread said that cannonballs move slowly enough that you could see them coming, which led to soldiers doing poo poo like trying to kick them aside as them flew towards them (with inevitable results).

Sorry, yes - should have specified that was for bouncing round shot. I don't know for sure but I think it's an aiming thing, where you ideally want to bounce the shot just in front of a mass of enemy infantry so it hits as many people as possible, and it's easier to aim short rather than risk overshooting.

Blind Rasputin posted:We use intraosseus access in codes and it’s a weird drill bit needle hybrid on the tip of an electric hand drill. Looks so much like something from Home Depot. It’s surprisingly fast and easy to use and just drills straight into their leg bone below the knee. It’s much better because that sternum access device is probably NOT a great idea when you need to make use of chest compressions. The dude in the video says you'd use on someone who's lost 2+ limbs so you probably can't use the thing you're talking about.
