Years of byob being chill and cool go by... A few people or someone with a few new accounts barges in and intentionally stirs things up then complains about how they just stirred poo poo up. There's a common denominator here, lol. Make a bunch of poo poo threads, whatever I guess, I thought some of them were funny, and there were some good posts, but don't act like you didn't know what you were doing. All of that would probably just blow over and no one would really care if the unexpected callouts didn't fire up. Don't creating drama out of nothing. I mean, why?

As I said in the thread I gassed, we have a forum for moderation complaints here: https://forums.somethingawful.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=686 The forums will not run out of space because more threads are posted and if there is a problem with a thread feel free to report it or reach out to GaG or even the admins. There is not a lot of traffic here so I don't think you will run the risk of "good" threads dissapearing into the ether And honestly if it is that good you have the power to sticky it or vote 5 on it. Anyways I freed the person on probation. It's Friday night please enjoy the weekend! |

I hate when "someone deleted a thread" drama leaks into the hello and chat thread, because it isn't very hello or chat, and also it tends to involve a lot of context that I don't have because I didn't see the thread in question so it's like a bunch of people suddenly arguing about who is better looking, Fred Smith or Bert Jones, two people that I have never heard of and don't know what they look like. (Bert Jones is better looking though.) |

Good lord, you know, I was out watching stars and planets with my very cool new telescope setup and I come back and see stuff burns down here. Thank you fluffdaddy for taking over! So, let's see, I did gas a few threads that were really just essentially empty, that's housekeeping and that should be fine. Our rules explicitly say, you post 20 threads, expect some of them to be gassed sometimes. As fluffieduckie once put it "all threads die, some sooner, some later, some need a little push". That does not mean we should - and I thought that was clear, because I didn't have the impression that what was happening - gas every thread immediately before it had a chance to become into something else. I would not have gassed the thread in question, and I did not, nesam did because he thought he was doing what I usually do, and that's fine, the idea was right, and that's also the job of an IK, but it hit the wrong thread, and at the wrong time, too. If I am gassing a thread, I usually do it in a rather low traffic time, too, to avoid having threads being hit that could develop in specifically that time. So, that was not good. You guys have been posting a lot of threads, and I think a lot of them are funny and good, some rather meh for my personal taste, a few, I found, are barely more than... rather empty words being posted. The latter, and only a few of those, have been gassed. And those are the only ones that should be gassed, and even that's by its very nature debatable. Again, that halloween 5 thread was not one of those, and shouldn't have been gassed, that's right. And you guys did PM and email and... discord PM me about this actively, too, from various perspectives and various people. Honestly, I also am rather surprised that anyone would get that upset over that at all. I did not probe anyone at all in a good while, and I personally understood those previous sixers happening before in here were meant rather in jest, joke sixers for a joke, but I can see now that apparently this was not what was perceived on the other end. I assume, nesam wanted to do a similar joke sixer, that was overshooting however and definitely landed badly. So, that, too, was not good. I would ask, all parties, to just... be a little calmer, about everything? Hell, I received like 5 emails and PMs and everything, it's as if the forum itself was finally getting deleted and it's not even a tuesday. I have been posting in those threads, too, there's nothing wrong with having more threads, or having more activity in BYOB. You also should, however, not just post for the sake of posting and hearing yourself type, which is, again, a quote from fluffieduckie. Our IKs did not have a very active role before, and it's fine if they want to change that and be more active. Not every button pushed is a power trip, not every thread dying equals the forum is dying. However, a thread an IK, or me as a mod for that matter, personally just finds unfunny never should be gassed - we should only gas threads that either have run their course, or have devolved into something else, or are really entirely empty spam with barely any ability for anyone to connect to. I've talked to our IKs about that just now, too, so that I hope we don't end up in a shouting situation like that again. Most of all, though, please just calm down a bit, everyone. Not everything happening is the end of the world, not everything an IK does is a power trip, not every thread gets to be amazing and not every bad joke or bad posts needs to be probated right away. This goes for everyone, please. |

I know you all are different people, and I am glad you are here, like all posters here, but I especially given how active you are, I am sure you can see how people try to draw conclusions, even if it is the wrong ones. Anyways, it doesn't matter who someone is, and it does not matter why someone joins us here in BYOB and starts posting, we usually are happy when people do! So, let's all post alongside each other, post pets, crimes and ideally even some jokes. I know you are, and that's fine, and I invite everyone else to do so, too!
