regarding the posting to hear yourself type stuff, i would like to say that things like my namechange thread are not that, altho i wasn't too surprised or upset at them being gassed. it is a satirical take on forums culture, which is a big part of what this forum and website are for. things like that are often part of the makeup of what makes this forum fun to browse, and sometimes someone sees it and gets an idea for some cool direction to take it, even if it's on the 50th time they scroll past it. sometimes things like the time and place that aren't just the op text are important to the bit. sometimes the op being blank is part of the joke. even if it goes nowhere, it's one thread out of 40 that you have to scroll past. maybe it makes more sense in the context of a forum that people are actively posting threads in where it will probably get washed away pretty quickly anyway, so your instincts might be a little off on how to manage byob's "image" (the housekeeping stuff), but byob will be moving toward higher activity. i think you're pretty reasonable and i'm not questioning your (specifically your, gag) judgement here too much, but do please try to be lenient that it might be some joke going over your head that will inspire someone, trust me

That "hearing yourself type" part was the quote I was referencing, as a general guideline, I did not mean to aim it at any threads in particular. The reason I gassed that specific namechange thread because it was not going anywhere and you were starting to bump it. I fully agree, that may be wrong and false, or going over my head, but I did not remove that thread immediately for that reason to see where it would go, and when I saw it was not getting any traction, I removed it, also to not make the false impression that it was, in fact, a real namechange thread. It absolutely is a subjective thing that I am describing here and as such, you are absolutely right, it could go over my head or I could miss the opportunity to inspire someone. Still, I thought, in that situation, it was okay to let it go, and so I did. I've been a mod here for around six years now, so I don't think my instincts towards what this forum is or isn't are necessarily off, maybe you and me just have different ideas about what thread can go where. Still, you are right, maybe I was not lenient enough and I will keep that in mind in the future. However, also remember that gassing threads is not a punishment for the OP, not for anyone at all, and you can always just have another idea and post another thread. |

One time I locked myself out of my mom's house, but the ignition lock in my old beat-rear end corolla was so loose my keys could be taken out after being started and I stole my own car like this to go get some food

I have unstuck some posts. nesam, let's talk in a more private manner, and everyone else - if there is nothing else that needs solving right now, I would, again, ask you to turn it down a little bit, and most of all, let's not start fights over seriously decade old stuff, okay? We now have a history thread to talk about old stuff, which I think is genuinely great, but please let's not use it to hunt after anyone personally, no matter who it is.
