Chef Bourgeoisie posted:I've started getting the 'your car warranty is about to expire' from a shifty number, but bonus is that I just bought my car. Total misfire. My defense for that one is my car's warranty expired looong ago.

drat near ended up in one myself. Was something I didn't expect for an MLM: selling AT&T internet and cable. Living at my parents place and they're upgrading and just so happen to mention to the salespeople that their son needs a job and they mention they're hiring. I call the number/hit up the email and do all the usual pre-employment hoops, show up at my first day. It's an 8-10 hour day mostly on foot (okay, gotta hit the pavement to make the $$$, I get that), that starts with a 1.5-2 hour mandatory meeting/prep-rally (okay, creeepy) where they go over the sales everyone made, the cool events the money they make go to, and how much of a cut everyone's managers make off their work and how if you work for X long you get promoted, etc. Oh and their actual business name didn't match with what they had called themselves on the business cards they gave to people they were selling to. And they totally suggested I work 5 days a week and a "half day" on Saturday to meet my quotas. Shadowed them for a full day and while they were actually selling an actual product (because they were working for AT&T as contractors selling fiber in an area) and they seemed more "shear the sheep" than "skin the sheep" but I noped out of there so loving hard after one day. I was desperate for a job but not that desperate. Helped that the next day I had a job fair to go to that I was planning on hitting up anyways.

FrozenVent posted:The movie has a musical number titled “Springtime for Hitler”, just fyi. Yes the Producers, both the original and the remake, are about a pair of guys trying to make a Broadway production that's so outrageously bad and offensive in order to guarantee its flop. Your point being?

I always love the people who hate the development of any apartments, because why would we ever support the people who make our lives and industry run with affordable housing? Oh did I say love? I meant to say loathe. Seriously though it always weirds me out that there are people out there who think I'm sub-human because I rent instead of going bankrupt trying to afford a home.

Friends nearly fell for the "house sold by someone who has nothing to do with the property owner" setup a few days ago. Their landlord told them last week that she wanted to sell the property so they have until mid-April to find a new home. So they've been looking around and it's kinda hard to find a room for a couple with a teen girl + a friend of the family on short notice. They thought they'd found a wonderful place that was closer to work, near a lot of stuff they wanted and near a school for the teen daughter to go to next year...only to find out the guy "renting" the house was a scammer/didn't exist. They got suspicious when they arrived and he wasn't there to meet them. The big realtor lock on the front door was open so they went in, looked around and it was a real nice place just as it had been described to them but when they called the number on the lock they were told that no person of such-and-such name had permission to rent out the property or had ever been a past leaseholder.

About a month or two I started getting the occasional obvious text spam on my phone promoting "girls in your area" kind of BS. You know the junk: "horny lady near you" with garbled junk to get past spam filters. They just seem even more pathetic now that everyone is quarantining and self-isolating.

Captain Monkey posted:They can! Not only have I received annoyed calls and texts from people who got my number spoofed at them, I’ve also received spam calls from my own number. Yeah it's almost more annoying when your number was spoofed than when you get the spam itself. Compared to getting 0-3 random spam texts a day it's fun getting 20-30 people who don't realize I'm not the spammer telling me to stop.

Was the address your place...or just close enough to your address that the system/driver could have made a mistake? Otherwise I'd contact customer support and talk to them
