As the new millennium was born, the old world was dying. The Twilight War had raged for four long years. Initially the great powers had fought with kid gloves, trying to avoid the use of weapons of mass destruction as long as possible. But slowly, bomb by bomb and strike by strike, it grew from tactical strikes to strategic launches, counterforce to countervalue, even hitting neutral nations in a mad attempt to deny them to the enemy. The world economy, the threads holding everything together, were slashed and burned. Oil, medicine, food, advanced technology all began to get harder and harder to find. Governments and states collapsed for want of effective communications, leaders totally disconnected from what was going on outside their bunkers. And yet the armies fought on, simply because there were no more states with which peace treaties could be signed. The flags on soldiers' uniforms became worthless as men and units defected, gave up or turned to banditry. The civilians who survived tried to rebuild as they started working the land and building towns back up. You're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine, and the machine is bleeding to death. You were a NATO unit, once. The 6th Panzergrenadier Division. By now, of course, you were down to about a couple hundred men and a handful of vehicles. You were part of the last attempted offensive of the Twilight War; clear a route to the Baltic coast along northern Poland, and link up with the lost American 8th Infantry Division. Besides, rumour was the Estonians had working refineries and industry; you can't drive a tank very far on alcohol. You and your comrades together with a handful of other NATO formations, forming the 7th Army, started the push in early winter, after gathering up your harvest. You didn't expect much in the way of opposition, since the enemy was just as hard up for gas and food as you. And initially you were right, and you didn't see a peep out of the Pact as you advanced along the Polish coast fitfully. As you moved into Kaliningrad you thought it was the home stretch. The Soviets had other plans. The last gasp of the Red Army hit you as you were camped outside Kaliningrad. Several dozen top line tanks and nearly 15,000 men hit you like a tidal wave; at first you were able to give as good as you were getting, but soon the 7th Army began to disintegrate, units scattering in every direction. You were one of them, making a mad dash north in the hopes that the Pact forces wouldn't follow you towards hostile Lithuanian territory. You took the scenic route, using the forests and swamps to stay out of sight. The radio transmissions grew less and less encouraging as other NATO units were run down, broke apart, or just stopped responding. Eventually, as HQ was attacked, you got your last official order: "Good luck, you're on your own." Welcome to Twilight 2000, the game that crosses Oregon Trail with Threads by way of Tom Clancy. You play a soldier in WW3 whose group has somehow drifted free from what's left of the military command structure and gone rogue; your goals and how you achieve them are up to you. You have access to some very fancy toys, but keeping them in bullets, fuel and parts is the hard part. A humble still and some antibiotics might turn out to be far more valuable to you than an entire load of depleted uranium sabot rounds for your M1 Abrams tank. Oh, and mind the irradiated holes in the ground. We will be using the 2.2 rules, and you start out 10 km west of Slavsk in Kaliningrad. This will be a PbP game, and character creation will be using point allocation for stats and as written. If rules weirdness comes up feel free to hit me up in this thread or on IRC, we'll figure something out. I'm looking for around 6ish people, and I'm leaving the recruit open until the 1st of March. Despite the 6th PzGren Div. being a German mechanized infantry unit feel free to make whatever you like; in T2k almost every unit has absorbed defectors, local conscripts, stragglers from other allied units and so on. Once I've made picks I'll roll for vehicles and give you a choice of appropriate options based on the nationalities in the group; for example if I roll a 13 for an M2A2 Bradley and there's also German, Soviet and British PCs then I'll offer you the choice of a Marder, BMP-2 or Warrior as well.

Just in case other people on the fence are nervous about character creation, I'll try to be thorough about it. From the top, let's be Felix Voss, a 17-year old German dude. Background is going to be German, so my native language is German only. I get 10 points in my native language. I'm going to pick out my attributes like so. 02 STR 05 AGI 03 CON 07 INT 10 EDU 05 CHA Felix is bright and educated, but not the most active dude. Additionally, I get 4 level 2 skills from hobbies during growing up. 2 Computer, 2 Ground Vehicle (Wheeled), 2 Survival, 2 Unarmed Martial Arts Felix was a camping goon, basically. Now comes the main part. I choose life paths, 4 years at a stretch, and keep doing so until I roll that war has been declared. You also get to select various secondary activities for extra skills or stats. I'm going to try for an education before shooting for the military, but war might be declared and gently caress me up early. My plan is for Felix to go through undergraduate and graduate school, do a stint in the combat engineers, and then move to the reserves and then various civilian professions, so watch as war fucks me over instantly. Assets are just the skill + attribute total, they're the usual target number for any rolls you make to Do Thing. E: for example your Small Arms skill should be noted down as Small Arms 05/09, and you'd use the latter number as your TN. Forums Terrorist fucked around with this message at 08:40 on Feb 26, 2016 |

From what I can see so far, you didn't take 2 points of Chemistry, so you don't meet the prerequisites for Medical School. That's an easy fix though. Also, separate out your background skills from your first term skills, since Undergrad only lets you take up to your EDU in skills (at the time you entered, so Adult Education won't kick in until afterwards). You should show your dice roll for your second language, and finally the way cascade skills work is a little weird; you would have a Medical (Surgery) skill of 10, while your Medical (Trauma Aid) and Medical (Diagnosis) skills would be only 5. This goes for Small Arms and Ground Vehicles too; you'd have a Small Arms (Rifle) skill of 2 and a Small Arms (Pistols) skill of 1, and a Ground Vehicle (Wheeled) of 3 and Ground Vehicle (Tracked) and (Motorcycle) of 1 (3/2 rounded down). Finally, write your skills like (Skill Level)/(Skill + Attribute) so you can track your target number easier. Rockpolis and Schizotek, likewise. For Small Arms I'm assuming you both want Rifle.

Asides from gear, you look good! With that much cash you can't really go wrong with things like larger trucks, stills, generators, decontamination trailers, etc. Or anti-tank missiles and other heavy weapons. You can wait until recruiting is finished, which will be in, eh, let's call it 6 hours. That gives everyone the longest possible time to get apps in.

Is it roll under? Standard target number or above? I can't loving tell Most of the time, it's roll under. The difficulty modifies the target number; a DIfficult roll is the base TN, an Average roll doubles it, a Formidable roll halves it and so on. The promotion roll is one of the only exceptions, it's roll over the given TN on a d10. So, as an (I'm presuming Anglo-)Canadian for your extra language you'd try to roll under 3 on a d10 to know French. Also, time is up for new submissions. Since there's 4 submissions, you're all in. And that means you get 2 vehicle/animal dice! Let me know how you want to roll them: separately, combined into a single roll of 2d6, or spending one or both as animal dice. Yep, looks good. You get the standard US equipment, so pick a gun from the US list on pg 50. Also spend your starting muns but don't worry about carrying it all, I'm going to do a thing. Okay, here's how this'll work: buy your stuff as normal. You start with whatever you can carry; if you can't carry it it's in a stash somewhere within a few km of Gastellovo. In case it's not obvious, you're the American. Forums Terrorist fucked around with this message at 20:53 on Mar 15, 2016 |

Current motor pool! Let me know if this arrangement works for you, if you have something and it's not in a vehicle here you're carrying it.
