Well just need to shape and arrange the apparatus like the human brain, with the chemical competents. Look at this moran arguing with himself today. Smdh

I mean all of your thoughts would be simulated anyway, presumably that includes any cognisance of stimulation, and presumably if we have computers that can create a faithful fascimile of a person's mind they're also powerful enough to let that mind experience whatever it wants. you could just have orgies with olivia wilde triplets all day if you wanted.

These companies will cease to exist before the technology exists. It's a great money making scheme though.

Also, even if it worked there likely wouldn't be continuity with you. If you think about it, you can't be conscious in two places at once. So while the machine would think it's a continuation of you, you'd still be dead and ceasing to exist probably.

Idiot: "I'm gonna download my consciousness and live as an immortal machine."

lol @ "immortal" machines. Off the top of my head I can't think of any complex machine with a functional lifespan greater than that of the average human.

Appliances: 5-10 years depending on the appliance.

Cars: 5-10 years avg. 20-30 with a really good owner. 50+ with meticulous care and preservation.

Aircraft: same as cars

Computers: lol like 3 years.

Navy Warships: 50 years

Assembly Line Robots: 20-30 years

I can't think of a machine operating today that I probably won't outlive. When you think of all the cars, toasters, computers, blenders and lawnmowers you burn through in your lifetime, the sci-fi cliche of robots outliving humans seems laughable.

Bunch of machines way older than you still working, in the future you will be a line shaft pulley.

There are 3 robot consciousness clones of you. Are all 3 you even though they have isolated experiences after becoming robots?

To an outside observer perhaps. But in the context of what we perceive as consciousness, all three would be like hell yeah I'm back to life. But they would be 3 separate consciousnesses. So how can there be continuity with the consciousness you are experiencing right now?

edit: What if your consciousness/brain info/whatever is uploaded to a robot pre-death. You could interact with it but not experience what it is experiencing. It's the same question repackaged.

Have them make you more confident, kind, patient and witty while they're at it. They could make you forget all your bad and embarrassing memories, too. In fact, why not just overwrite your entire identity with a perfect personality template?

well obviously i dont have robot clones thats just poor planning. i have seen movies and they would steal my life because they envy my lovely flat and anime collection
instead i just have the one robot shoved into my brain and i be both at once and then when the meaty bit dies im basically a sad brain damaged robot. this plan is flawless

How do you experience continuity in consciousness when you fall asleep/ go under/ pass out? You don't. "You" as a constant object is an illusion, and there is no duality.

Your current instance wouldn't be able to experience the robot's experience because it will lack any feedback.

YOU are going straight to the grave. meanwhile, another YOU, starting right off from the moment of transfer, perceives itself as having been successfully transferred from your body (its old body) to its new body. it's like "RIGHT ON IT WORKED... too bad for that other guy, the extra me, who will die."

oo, a withering conundrum all around.

probably best for everyone involved if you annihilate the old body and self in the transfer process, so you don't get this terrible moral and ethical situation.

of course, the plot of an unguessably large number of repetitive soap opera stories of the future will be that the original double wasn't annihilated, and is still hanging around trying to figure out what to do, and maybe even challenges the authenticity of the new version... etc etc.

think how many orphans of this process ther ewill be, who have ot go to space therapy every week to talk about how they don't feel "real," they regret every day the phantom of their dead past self... meanwhile their space therapist is also a double, or a double's double, or a double's double's double... and so is their mom, who has been alive for 9 thousand years, and their dad, who is only 3 thousand, but that's not such an uncommon age gap anymore...

god drat the future is hosed.
