okay, you need to clear some thing up here:
do you mean can an action be both good and bad at the same time?
that the same person can do both good acts and evil ones?
the ability to do two things at the same time which are morally opposed, i.e. drowning a kitten while helping a troubled teen through school?

anyway, normative concepts like "good" or "bad" are simply social ones. they only exist as they are applied in a specific social context, and even then their meanings are negotiated on individual levels. its not some kind of inherent property to any actions - it's purely a projected normative quality. so to answer your question: you are making cathegory mistakes, and its the same kind of nonsense like "whats the sound of one hand clapping"

Ahh yes, i remember back when I was really struggling in school, I was getting made fun of a lot and on the verge of dropping out... and then my Big Brothers And Sisters program mentor drowned a kitten in a little dammed up pond right before my eyes, and somehow, someway, it made everything better. The very next day my grades improved, other kids started liking me, I even became friends with the younger kid I had lashed out at (after apologizing of course). And it all began that one fateful day at the dam.

if good and evil are on some spectrum, one would imagine every act excepting the most extreme would be both good and bad. to tie it into a philosophy i know little about, the yin-yang portrays this relationship well, with some of the dark within the light and vice versa. (although to think of yin or yang as good or evil is, as i understand it, not correct)

It's the general agreement to not murder each other for our stuff or whatever with the agreed-upon notion that it's beneficial if we generally don't do that sort of thing. It's a huge mistake to write off anything that is a social construct as unimportant or as immaterial. Just because there is no 'good' or 'evil' in nature doesn't mean such things don't exist. Our entire world is just built on the way we interact with each other and see the world, so trying to base your morality (also a social construct) off the insentient grind of nature is a pretty messed up proposition.
