Is this an interference out? Did they catch it if that's the actual call?

Grittybeard posted:Is this an interference out? No, he hit that for a single and later came home to score a run. It doesn't count as 6.05(h) interference when that happens because the multiple points of contact on the bat are all considered part of the same hitting action. shadok fucked around with this message at 05:36 on Jul 18, 2016 |

Ah, for some reason I was thinking it was interference if the bat touched the ball after initial contact (this would possibly happen on bunts I was thinking). After five minutes of looking I can't find a rule regarding that, and in any case it clearly wasn't intentional there so it would kind of be annoying if he was called for that non-existent rule. e: Oh there is some rule there. The sane call is to let it go, so I'm glad the rulebook takes that into account.

You're exactly right on the interference rule, the key word is "after". In the case of Junior Lake's hit today, the second contact with the bat is considered to have happened during. I didn't know either, I found an umpire reference online to a Rockies-Yankees game in 2011 when Tulo did the same thing. http://www.closecallsports.com/2012/06/rules-605g-605h-batted-ball-batters.html quote:During a 2011 Rockies-Yankees game, R1, B1 swung at and hit a fair ball into left field. Upon further inspection, it was apparent that the ball shared multiple points of contact with the bat, rather than a single point as in ordinary hits. Even though the ball did hit the bat twice, Rule 6.05(h) specifies that a dead ball may only be called if the ball were to hit a bat a second time in fair territory after an attempted hit or bunt. For the purposes of this rule, the multiple points of contact that characterized B1's swing are considered to have occurred during the hitting action, as opposed to after it. This is not interference and not a foul ball. (h) shadok fucked around with this message at 05:52 on Jul 18, 2016 |

Would like to see that without all the graphics. They make it look like it's breaking 20" from his knees all the way across the plate.

Request: Has anyone got that gif that's, like, the Ultimate SAS MLB gif? As I recall, it included the Dinger Machine, 9/11, the falling Rangers fan, Yankeesfans.gif, and possibly another component. I was just a lurker at the time, so I don't remember exactly when it was or who made it.

In top of the 7th inning of the 1979 All-Star Game, Lee Mazzilli was asked to pinch hit. He tied the game with the first pinch-hit dinger in All-Star Game history. In the top of the ninth, he came up again, this time with the game tied and the bases loaded. He drew a walk, and flipped his bat to Tokyo. I hope you enjoyed this short trip through bat flip history.

This looks like maybe it wasn't planned beforehand with the way Martin glances down at Osuna after opening the door. Nice job figuring out the joke on the fly if so.
