Miles almost certainly got a call from the Chief Prosecutor about half-assing the prosecution for Redd White.

EponymousMrYar posted:The game isn't done with Edgeworth's arc yet but this is a continuation of the Redd White case for him. In Redd White, he was completely convinced that Pheonix was guilty, just the same as all the others he's prosecuted... And then Pheonix proved him wrong by having Redd White be guilty, who Edgeworth was protecting at the time... Completely at odds with his stated goal of 'convicting the guilty.' It needs to be emphasized that the last case is the first time Edgeworth has ever outright lost in court. Some rookie lawyer rocked him and he hasn't been the same since. Hence why he tends to break composure more often here.

Everyone, please read Manfred in the most stereotypical "angry German asshat" voice you can think of. Also, Gregory Edgeworth is basically Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch.

Manfred is where the first game's satire on the Japanese legal system gets very direct. Intimidating the Judge into doing (mostly) whatever Manfred demands is only the tip of the absolutely massive iceberg that is this man's career.

In hindsight, one realizes that Edgeworth played fair the most out all of Phoenix's prosecutors. Though Manfred is the pinnacle of flagrant abuse of prosecutor power in the series.

Waffleman_ posted:This one textbox is the sole foundation we use to lay out the entire Ace Attorney timeline. This is literally the only time a specific year is mentioned in any of the games. Every other time an event from the past is brought up, it's in relative years ago. I didn't even think Capcom had acknowledged the timeline until they started talking about it when it began in real time. 2001 is also when the first game came out. Also, the events of the first game are happening this year.

It's generally assumed that Manfred retrained the parrot because he's a severe perfectionist who considers 99.999% of all possibilities when it comes to cases.

The case that day is the one where Manfred's perfect record got a little asterisk next to it saying "RECEIVED A PENALTY". There's no way in hell he doesn't have photographic memory of everything that happened that day.

Miles internally is convinced he's guilty of killing his father, add that to Manfred's style of "results at any cost" prosecution and you get the guy from Case 1-2.

And somehow, Manfred isn't the most petty person in all of Ace Attorney.

Miles was molded into the man he was in 1-2 by Manfred specifically as a "gently caress YOU" to Gregory. And still, Manfred somehow isn't the pettiest person in all of Ace Attorney.
