There will never be a tv show about butt-hole hunting carrots and lusty robot heads flying around the two gayest universes.

Lexx is great but the quality of the show is very uneven. You can tell that they started to film episodes that they had no idea if they had funding to finish.

fire and water third season was good, i really dug all the heaven and hell fantasy imagery, it's worth it for the production and costume design alone all goes to poo poo when then come to earth for the entirety of season 4 (chess episode was interesting i guess) there was a script written for a new farscape pilot on showtime i think? probably won't happen

Even if there were few memorable episodes in that season, it overall managed to build a good narrative.

Could the mods please replace Lexx in the title with Farscape

Farscape is the charmless, Americanized derivative of the authentic experience that is lexx in other words: gently caress you and may the merciful shadow fall upon you

Hector Beerlioz posted:Can any of the fine folks in tviv give me a rundown on this show? Thanks! There exist two universes: The Light Zone, ruled by the oppressive League of 20,000 Planets and a being called His Divine Shadow, and the Dark Zone, a universe of chaos and depravity, but really they both seem to be full of horny pansexual cannibals. To cement his rule over humanity, His Divine Shadow creates the Lexx, a sentient organic spaceship with the power to blow up planets. However, it comes under the control of the cowardly, low-level security guard Stanley Tweedle. He's joined by Zev, a love slave with incomplete programming, 790, a misanthropic robot head accidentally programmed to fall in love with Zev, and Kai, an undead assassin made from the last of a warrior race prophesied to end the reign of His Divine Shadow. Together, they travel the two universes, looking for somewhere to call home and visiting interesting places, narrowly avoiding getting raped and/or eaten, more often than not blowing said interesting places up or escaping as something else blows them up, having unrequited crushes on eachother, and occasionally dabbling in heroism.

It's like Star Trek but every planet is either full of horny sociopaths or if there are any decent people they'll be killed either by the planet's sociopaths or by the crew of the Lexx accidentally or on purpose. It's very Canadian/Nova Scotian, and feels like if Russ Meyer tried to remake Battlestar Galactica.

Hector Beerlioz posted:Can any of the fine folks in tviv give me a rundown on this show? Thanks! Lexx is what you would get if you took Waiting for Godot, biopunk, space sci fi, and soft core porn and mashed it together and seasoned it heavily with existentialism and dark humor. It is both fantastic and terrible, full of meaning and yet not. And I think it's definitely something that I think every sci fi fan should experience. The world of Lexx is grim, dark, deterministic, and utterly pointless. But in a sense that's the beauty of it. You have a handful of fuckwits flying around in a stolen ship that is the most powerful weapon of destruction in the Two Universes. Yet beneath the utter absurdity of the situation and the grinding monotony of their vagrant and unfulfilled lives, but when poo poo goes south and they have their backs to the wall they fight to find some element of meaning in who and what they are. EDIT: Don't try looking for a grand epic space opera. Enjoy it as a bizarre spectacle and a brutal and satirical look at the human condition.

The first episode of the show I saw was either The Web or The Net. For some reason, (Budget problems? Experimentation?) They made two episodes about the same story, about an alien parasite infiltrating the ship, using most of the same footage, just with some different focuses and intro scenes. It's probably the most normal sci-fi plot in the series. The parasite is a standard creepy alien with none of the kookiness or depravity fo the rest of the show's antagonists. I only caught a few episodes, most or all from season 2, plus the last parts of Gigashadow and Eating Pattern before season 4 started. Looking over an episode guide, I was surprised to see how the apparent theme of misfits traveling the universe kind of ran out halfway through. Season 4 is the longest, and the whole thing is, "Hey, remember this character? Well here they are reincarnated in Earth!" Which is crazy because the third season already looked like "Hey, remember this character? Well here they are on one of these two afterlife planets!" But when I saw it then, I didn't know that I was already supposed to know the American government characters. Still, it kind of worked. Thanks! Season 2: Stanley and Zev/Xev fly around aimlessly looking for something to do. 790 and Kai tag along. They meet even worse people in even more disgusting places and learn that the universe is doomed and there's nothing they can do about it. Season 3: They reach a pair of planets that are literally heaven and hell. Hell is ruled by an immortal being named Prince, who wants to use the Lexx to destroy heaven. This being hell, the people there are even worse than the ones they'd met previously. Heaven's pretty nice though. Season 4: They arrive on late twentieth-century Earth, a planet that is about to be destroyed by man's hubris. Prince is there too, along with a bunch of other characters from previous seasons, but only Prince and the Lexx crew remember any of that. There are vampires and fairies and bad carrots, and the ATF is the most powerful organisation in the world. So basically, it's a really great show.

The original movies (the 'first season') are the best, if only because Eva Habermann's Xev is waaaaay hotter than Zenia Seeberg's Zev. That said, I never did catch most of the s3/4 episodes. I should fix that.
