personally i didn't mind most Gawker sister sites but Gawker itself hosed up badly in more ways than one gawker stalker maps was an app to find where a given celebrity was at any minute using crowd-sourced data they outed a gay executive no one has ever heard of, then their editorial team protested when it was taken down however, they also did some really good things i hope they can either spin off the non-stalking related brands before filing for bankruptcy. or that the good writers team up to make something good.

all of the gawker blogs are bad, but what makes it interesting is that they're all bad for different reasons. gawker for stalker weirdness. gizmodo for android/windows apologists and pop-science filler lifehacker for rotating the same articles annually and their obsession with scheduling/task management apps. kotaku for manchild-fuel. usually in the form of either "how anime changed my life"-type long form editorials, or pop garbage where two popular things are put together like "here's a thing you recognize from a star wars, except in lego and/or 8 -bit form." deadspin for the low-nuance, broadly declarative hot takes. jezebel also for the hot takes, except steeped in self-righteousness and one word paragraph "sighs" or "smh" io9 for enabling mediocrity to preserve their fandom. jalopnik i never really read so i don't have an opinion there.  although to their credit, there were some bright spots in their history. gawker found the goatse guy and uprooted that reddit pedophile. kotaku and jezebel wrote some very good explainers of the gamergate origin story and did admirable work covering/discrediting them. kotaku would occasionally say "gently caress-it" to industry PR and break embargo, even if it was short-sighted. e: actually ignore this post. gawker fucken ruled and for all of its fault, i'd trade a thousand vox'en to get them back.
