There's a lot of talk about how that's "his brand", but she also says some nonsense about how she wants to turn him into a fitness instagram kitty. By the end of the movie absolutely nothing has changed, she continues to feed him cheese and clearly just wants a famous fat cat.

Not making a fat cat is hard enough without a monetary incentive on top of it. My old roommate had a giant maine coon mix, and when they got a new kitten it would only eat out of the older cat's bowl. So on the advice of a vet they started giving both cats kitten food, which made the MC fat which made him cuter, rounding out his face and body into a puffball. We all felt bad for having such a positive response to it because we knew it wasn't healthy. Thankfully he's not that into food (for a cat) so the switch back to normal food when the kitten grew up made him drop the extra weight. Some content to make up for the rant.

I, or my parents, have never had a cat that was overweight. I can't remember ever even having seen one that was as fat as the one in the gif. It's not that hard, people are just too ignorant or lazy to make the necessary lifestyle and dietary changes to their pet's life. I can understand that it's hard for yourself, for various reasons. But with a pet there's no excuse, they're in your care and you have almost complete control over how they live.

Or maybe it's more of that fussy/drama attitude dogs have, like when you stop petting & they grab your hand real gentle with their mouth like "I didn't say you could stop" Only sharks don't understand that their mouths are big bear traps full of razors & even a tiny nibble on a frail, squishy human is enough to remove a limb

So I know they give cheetahs dog companions so they have company and don't socialize to humans, but do they do that for other big cats as well?

The San Diego Zoo staff told us it was because cheetahs have high-anxiety and being around an always-chill dog like a Labrador helps keep them calm. I figure it's only appropriate for other big cats that are naturally anxious.
