Linux is pretty good if you want to idiot-proof a computer; my sister's boyfriend would fill her browsing laptop up with malware until I installed Ubuntu on it, now she won't go back

For travel, I bought a cheap acer chromebook, replaced the SSD, installed Ubuntu, and put Windows in Virtualbox for whenever I need office or adobe or itunes. As a daily browsing/downloading/media machine, it's incredibly cost effective. And the fact I can run bash or python scripts from keyboard shortcuts or cron is :krad:

learning shell stuff is one of the best things i ever did and means i don't go insane spending my life doing repetitive poo poo on a gui

(i will admit to wasting a hell of a lot of time learning advanced bash scripting before finding that python kicks its rear end in every way)

i am not sure how there are programmers that can't do stuff in shell, but they exist

did you know you need to use a 64bit browser to view a website the runs on a 64bit server?

...this explains so much
