Without knowing your coverage vs. mine it's not really a good comparison, but...

I pay $131 per month for health, dental, vision plus optional long term disability. My employer pays $573 as their part ( medical only).

Bear in mind that is based on the average wage.

Obviously if you earn more, you pay more, and there will come a point where you're paying more for the NHS than a very good private healthcare policy would run you, as is always the way with a taxation-funded model for services.

In the US it doesn't. The janitor (if also a state employee) pays basically the same as the director of the agency. A few differences based on union contracts.

I think you're talking at cross purposes.

The National Insurance that funds the NHS, while reduced as a percentage of your income once over a certain earnings threshold, increases with income basically to infinity, it's simply a specific form of income tax.

You have to think in those terms, not in terms of the US healthcare model as it stands.

I'm paying $42/week with full everything through work. Apparently its humana? Idk. Anyways, I'm covered for everything that happens to me because I selected everything to see what it all cost with the intention of going back later to change poo poo. I found out I can't do this and HR all but told me to get hosed on the phone, so I plan on abusing the poo poo out of it if possible. Or just having the doctor yank the metal plates out of my arm it I ever manage to have enough to pay for the co-pay type stuff. 4 years since the surgery and it still causes me pain if I push it. :v:

Yeah. The NHS is not even close to being perfect, but I still think it's better than the US system for the majority of people.

Spent all night (5pm-1am) at a customer site, made a little progress but poo poo is still broken. Headed back in a couple minutes to give it another shot. Always nice when support and the vendor have never seen the issues we're seeing.

lovely part is I there's a bunch of music stuff back home this weekend and most of the stuff I wanted to see is today and early tomorrow. Still need to finish prepping the race bike for Monday too. Upside this hotel has one of the better breakfasts I've had at a hotel in the US.

That sounds like a terrible idea. Does your work van only have 2 speakers or something? Can't you just buy 6x9s and splice them into whatever speakers that are already there?

Only two speakers in the cab. Not allowed to take the radio out to add speakers. But there are two empty 6x9 bays on the back doors. I wanna have some music back there I can plug my phone into since I will literally be working in the back of the van for like 8hrs at a time sometimes. I will probably just end up buying a construction boombox since it is easier.

This is my concern. Tesla usually has some fancy gimmick, which sounds awesome, but might not work in practice, especially up here in the northern climes. Pop-out door handles stuck because of ice? oops. Those falcon wing doors also look like they'd be fun in heavy snow/ice. Glass roof sounds a little better, but I'm curious how it handles things all around.

When the 3 comes out may well be when we're looking to replace the saab, so we'll see what happens. I definitely like tesla for what they're doing for the industry as a whole, and AWD model 3 would be amazing for in-climate weather (donuts), but GMC may step up their game with the Bolt, and who knows about what other manufacturers might be offering by then. Either way, an interesting time to be getting into the electric game. :)

I'm not in a position to buy either EV but I'm a bit biased towards the Bolt so far. I hate the front end of the 3 and the interior (from the admittedly lovely pictures) looks like cheap garbage. I like the fact that it's RWD or AWD though.

I wouldn't drink the kool aid just yet.

I pay $12 a month for health/dental/vision for 10 months, my employer picks up the rest of the tab which works out to roughly 17k a year. My max out of pocket co-pay per year is $100 for each person so in my case $400 max deductible a year. I have no clue how that happened other than I'm not complaining one but since I took this position 8 months after my son was born and cost me 18k out of pocket.
