I literally just had Del Taco in Barstow, CA. lovely town but Del Taco is loving banging.

I was just in Sedona for a week so if you ever get out that way go to Elote Cafe, you will not be disappointed.

Central / Eastern WA has an amazing chain called El Porton. Visit the one in Union Gap, WA and have the Pollo a la Crema or the Pollo al Cilantro if you're not a genetic freak who tastes soap when they eat cilantro. The salsa is loving AMAZING.

I recently tried Del Taco for the first time the other day and I think that might just be the best chain restaurant ever to exist. Its like Taco Bell but the quality is insanely higher and the prices are somehow lower, you can you get a half pound breakfast burrito for like 2 dollars. Another pro restaurant would be Taco Cabana down in Texas. Theres also a mexican place down in San Antonio that is open 24/7 serves pizza and breakfast all day and has frozen margarita machines ready to go all day I wish I could remember the name.

suggest some good mexican places to try bonus points if you can come up with a place between central california and the bay area

The 24 hour pizza and mex place is Chacho's. I only go there when drunk but it's pretty decent. There are lots of good Mexican food places in SA. There's this one place with a big banner that has Guy Fireri's dumb face that claims to have the best tacos in America. They don't even have the best tacos in a 5 mile radius. So basically I hate Guy Fireri.

They've been expanding recently but I've always gone to the one on 22nd in Cicero. Like ever since I was crawling my family has loved the food there. Hell my own local grocery store is now even carrying Los Comales brand pickled veggies. And I think I saw on their website that you can even buy their Al Pastor premade.

BURY ME AS I LIVED, A FREE MAN ON THE CLUTCH
I know I've posted this before at some point but Del Taco is hilarious. I used to do tech support for their POS systems (Point of Sale, not Piece of poo poo but it's pretty synonymous).

A single register that doubles a the back of house computer and the owners never pay for a service contract so you have to charge them for support. The giant "ADD MEAT" button in the center of the POS display always amused me. What kind of meat? Who can say. Just more of it. Confused owner, confused patrons... It's just a bizarre franchise.

For legit content about good Mexican food/border food, just look for the sketchiest place you can find. The weirder, the better. The places come and go, but use your sense of smell. You should smell roasted peppers, lard, and beans. If the air isn't permeated with that smell and if the booths aren't sticky, don't go there.

Sometimes you run into a good Oaxacan place (totally different than Tex-Mex) but those are few and far between in my neck of the woods. There used to be a really good one in Virginia MN but they're long gone. They were hidden in the basement of an office building and had no signage. Best tacos ever. Best Tomatillo salsa ever. It was run by a guy who had gotten married to get a Green Card.

Las Casuelas in Palm Springs, California. There are actually three Las Casuelas restaurants. They vary in price, appearance and quality of food. The two upscale restaurants are very swanky, very expensive and the food sucks. The original has dark wood, bright pink vinyl seats, lotsa chintzy wrought iron, and the most amazing food ever.

Best Mexican place around this town is a small regional chain of professionally run establishments who's management is surprisingly bereft of the short, tanned, stabby individuals usually associated with said cuisine.

JER GEDDA FERDA RADDA ARA!

Carolina's in the Most Barrio rear end Part of Phoenix is 10/10. They make their own tortillas, the floor is concrete, it looks, feels and tastes like North Mexico. If you're a honkey, Vaquero's in Tempe is good, great lengua, tripas and cabeza burros. If you're King Honkey of Wisconsin, then southwest chain Federico's is good, authentic enough and good prices. Their chile relleno burrito is 10/10. If you're some dork who needs to just get his rear end back to Duluth or Green Bay or wherever the gently caress then I guess El Pollo Loco and Chipotle.
