So glad I can finally stop trying to enjoy DS2. The iron keep is the single most bullshit area in the entire game. every single other area has bonfires out the rear end, except for this one, which is huge and long and has a ton of bullshit enemies. also it's configured so it's impossible to just run through to the boss door. the boss is pretty easy but just getting to him is such total loving garbage, only exacerbated by the loving belfry bonfire that means you need to run through the bellfry and often get invaded before you can actually even start retrying the level again. oh dont forget the lava buckets that can trap you without warning meaning you need to restart the level also.

just getting this off my chest before it becomes 100% irrelevant.

after the 1.1 patch you'll almost certainly hit 60 fps if you're not cpu bottlenecked, on low settings

you -might- have to compromise with 900p instead of 1080p, though.

I completely botched my build and I've spent two hours throwing my carcass into the meat grinder that is Cathedral of the Deep in search of the respec lady. :qq:

Maybe putting down the controller after a literal 12 hour binge and sleeping will let me come at it with a clear mind.

I thought pyromancy would work as a supplement to melee like in ds1 and somewhat in ds2, but it functions as a dedicated caster or hex build now. I dumped the points I was wasting in melee for an extra +5 int and faith, and am relying on a wimpy fire enchanted sword, and now my fire orbs hit like a truck and am no longer struggling with anything. It seems like the obvious build options now are: pure melee dex/str, dex/int spellsword (lots of early sorcery utility/buffs, crystal weapons early), pure int sorc, str/fth cleric (good healing/utility for a slower attacker and some nice buff spells again, as well as early blessed weapons) or an int/fth pyromancer that plays more like a DS2 hexer with insanely huge, bursty and a few utility options in having access to lower sorc/miracles. If there's a way to get a chaos gem early on, a melee pyro might work, but it seems Pyro is meant as a dedicated spell build now.

I look forward to finding a chaos or dark gem so I can decide on a true melee weapon to use over this fire enchanted one, and go back to being gud.

e: oh yeah, and I forgot about luck builds, but I wouldn't know where to start aside from the hollow infusion.

raw weapon with the pyromancy fire buff and melee buff :vince:

went from struggling to do deacons of the deep with me 5 shotting fat clerics to two shotting them with overkill to spare. :stare:

Now I just need the extra stats to wield a greatword and the real dark souls begins

I haven't independently tested the two, but my friend using an Uchi... +6? and a full dex build now does far less damage than I do with a raw, +4 astora sword. I just need to settle on a fun weapon to meet base stats for and I'm set. Might just go Zweihander, though a dex weapon would be more fun for the extra cast speed, assuming that's still 'a thing'

insanely important pro-tip: if you have a message generating a lot of updoots, be sure to loving save it by pressing y on the message menu

There's a cap of like, 10 messages allowed, and I've noticed after casually walking around the intro areas again that messages seem... somewhat sparse, compared to yesterday?
