Of loving course in backwards rear end America we get the privilege of buying it from a clusterfuck of different storefronts rather than being able to watch it on Netflix with the rest of the world

Stoked to watch Minus One tonight since I missed it in theaters. Picked up the Criterion Shows era collection the other day because my partner had somehow never seen the OGs and it's utterly fantastic. I did not read the dimensions when I ordered it and did not realize it was also a beautiful coffee table book. Ty birthday money.

It did get me interested in checking out the Heisei stuff as well, Godzilla 1985 was my favorite as a kid and I rented it on VHS several times. But I was checking and the Americanized version I watched as a kid never got a release out of VHS, Beta, or Laserdisc due to rights issues, and on Amazon the cheapest I could find on blu ray was 79 dollars for a used copy. Outside of sailing the seas, does anyone know the best way to watch Return of Godzilla and the rest of the Heisei stuff? I see a handful are on Prime but not Return of Godzilla ofc.

e: A little sad the version with Raymond Burr never got a rerelease, after I read that contrary, to popular opinion, he always appreciated his association with the original film and fought to keep the American version of Return of Godzilla from getting too chopped up.

Folks I just finished watching Minus One and it was loving badass I loved it. However the last scene made me furrow my brow.

And then from the internet i learned that i completely missed the final shot of the last scene and that actually she survived due to "G-cells" which were never mentioned in the movie and I just legitimately cried and laughed because what the gently caress is this lmao. I wish I could just compartmentalize the feeling of my first experience of the ending

I just imagined she was conveniently blown into a mattress factory or whatever, I didn't really care at that point because I feel like the three of them deserved it, and I pretty much called it from the moment the film wants you to believe she's dead.

Watched Mothra vs Godzilla last night and it was so loving good. I love the Big G in this one. Just a big clumsy goof stumbling back home from the bar, tripping over buildings, getting pissed and lashing out at another building in anger. Eventually stopped by the Mothras who dunk him in the water to sober him up.

Anyone else have the Showa era Criterion set? Watched everything up to Destroy All Monsters and the disc seems to be all hosed up. I was able to watch the other 2 movies on this disc just fine but trying to watch this one and it looks like trying to watch something that's only partially downloaded or something, and also has frequent audio popping. Wondering if there's some known issue or if I just need to call and yell at someone about the hosed up disc they gave me. Product was never opened and the disc went straight from the box to my xbox

Probably someone who reads Minus One as pro-Imperial Japan

The 2014 PS4 game was a major flop to the point it’s not even on the online store anymore and physical copies are expensive (and yeah it’s not good though it has some interesting/weird ideas.)

It would have been fine if the controls weren't rear end. If it had just been a then current gen version of King of the Monsters it would have been fine. It was... Not that. I own it digitally on PS4 but I think I'd rather play Godzilla or Godzilla 2 on the NES before going back to that.

Did they quietly release 1984/1985 at some point? Seems kind of weird to kickstart with Biollante, but maybe I don't have my release orders correct. I thought Godzilla Returns was the first of the Heisei era
