a friend of mine on Tumblr who is really good at doing Kaiju and other monster art recently started up a series of drawings with the intention of eventually drawing more or less every Toho monster(and stuff from licensed Godzilla stuff too)*, so far he's done about 50 of them(with the most recent batch being dropped only a couple hours ago) and according to him he's nowhere even remotely close to being finished;

https://tyrantisterrorart.tumblr.com/tagged/TT-Draws-the-Godzilla-Gang

*there is one little "cheat" with what he's doing, for certain characters with multiple versions he's only doing one version and/or folding elements from multiple versions together(for example he's only doing one of the various "Son of Godzilla" monsters with his being based primarily on the Heisei "Jr" as he's not the biggest fan of either Minya or Godzooky from my recollection)

If Singular Point gets continued(that little post credits scene in Episode 13 seems to make it clear they want to) I think it will definitely benefit from having done most of the science stuff in this first season(overall I feel like I had a decent enough understanding of most of it since a lot of it I've encountered in other Sci-Fi works before, but it still felt kinda muddy about how some of it worked)

Also kinda weird how the Megalons just sort of vanish after they get away on the boat even though at least some of them were definitely still alive

Godzilla's initial form is mostly Titanosaurus, so much so that I got confused when the show played the Godzilla trumpets on his first appearance.

There's some of that monster from the second Rebirth of Mothra film too in that form as well, especially in the overall shape

Loved SP, but was slightly disappointed when the mass of moths/butterflies didn't result in Mothra appearing. I mean, you already have a sixties-era ditty summoning kaiju, so you'd think she'd be contractually obligated to come out, right?

Although, in truth, I might prefer the subtle hinting over just cramming every kaiju imaginable in there. And they finally had my boy Anguirus in there!

Gotta save something for a sequel after all

I still love Final Wars but the older I get the less and less I like specifically it's version of Godzilla, with how quickly and effortlessly it chumps most of the other monsters in the movie being a huge part of that as it doesn't really elevate Godzilla as a monster it just makes everyone else look worse

Showa Ghidorah beat Zone Fighter, once. Gigan's one victory is soloing Jet Jaguar offscreen in vs Megalon, and while I love Jet Jaguar as much as the next guy, Zone Fighter he is not.

He might have actually won in Monster Zero, too. He's the only monster who came out of the sea at the end, which is exactly how Toho showed us that Kong had beaten Godzilla after their big fight a few movies prior. I imagine Ghidorah just chose to gently caress off from Earth after the Xians all blew up because, I mean, the dude had certainly had a day.

And he beat Rainbow Mothra in the third Heisei Mothra film.

Other than that, yeah. I think It's just Rodan and Mothra in KotM. I guess he won a fight with Biollante in a comic at one point? Maybe he kicked some rear end in that one show with all the action figures.

Half Century War had him and Gigan murder all the other Kaiju besides Godzilla(and maybe Mothra I'd have to double check) offscreen

Also Wayforward teased that they're doing something Godzilla related on their Twitter, since they were the developers for Godzilla: Domination on the GBA(one of the hidden gems on that system) that probably means one of the following; 1) an HD Remaster/Remake of Domination, 2) a new Godzilla game in the style of Domination

Well guess it's a good thing I haven't had mine stored in the book for a while now(I keep them in one of those big CD/DVD folders with most of my other shows and movies for easy access and transportation)

My immediate thought is 9/11 but then I realized we're 20 years removed from that. I can't imagine that would be a relevant trauma for even the most redneck populations oh wait it's Covid isn't it

Bring back Matango as the threat for the movie, culminating in Godzilla fighting a proper Kaiju sized mushroom monster

It's such a weird case of convergent evolution looking back at the old Fleischer Superman short "The Arctic Giant" and how closely it resembles Godzilla despite being made almost 15 years earlier, all that's missing is that the titular Arctic Giant doesn't have a breath weapon(which in retrospect is probably one of the more important things Godzilla brought to the genre)

Starting a rewatch of Singular Point and like a minute or two in just noticed a Hedorah cameo in a mural, will definitely have to keep my eyes open for any other little cameos of that nature I likely missed the first time around

Also in retrospect it's pretty obvious Singular Point is basically a more serial Godzilla themed version of Ultra Q, which is only appropriate considering Ultra Q's own connections to Godzilla

Just finished a rewatch of the original Godzilla and an idle thought came into my head, where would things go if Serizawa wasn't able to use the Oxygen Destroyer on Godzilla(like say during Godzilla's second rampage through Tokyo had gone in a different direction and Serizawa and his lab had ended up getting destroyed), if it's the Showa timeline I'd imagine either Mothra gets involved earlier or maybe King Seesar gets awoken earlier to try and deal with him, if it's the GMK timeline then the same applies to the Guardian Monsters, in either case they might actually succeed since we don't really know how capable the 54 Godzilla is in a fight against other Kaiju compared to the 2nd Showa Godzilla, nor is he being magically empowered by a bunch of angry ghosts like the GMK Godzilla

drrockso20

And of course as the TV cartoon showed it's very easy to shift Zilla over to a more sympathetic and even heroic role by leaning into her more animalistic nature in different way than how they work for her as an antagonist

Heck now I'm picturing a version of the 98 film in the Showa timeline where it's after Monster Island is established* and rather than trying to exterminate her or her offspring the crux of the plot is to capture them all while also minimizing casualties and property damage

*it is fascinating that the Showa timeline officially wraps up with humanity finding a way to live peacefully with the Kaiju

The Mortal Kombat Armageddon version of Godzilla fighting games, featuring every single character in existence to that point. Make them size accurate too, so anime Godzilla is huge and OG is a lil' baby.

The better comparison would be with Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 if we're talking fighting games with absurdly huge rosters of weird obscure goobers

Though honestly Unleashed got pretty close, Hedorah is basically the only notable* Showa omission(aside from maybe Gigan's Showa design) that isn't wrapped up in licensing issues(Kong, Mechani-Kong, arguably Frankenstein), as well as Battra for Heisei, and Zilla and Monster X/Kaiser Ghidorah for Millennium

*like yeah it would be nice to have Manda, Ebirah, Kumonga, Kamacuras, the Gargantuas, and maybe even the Yog trio but with Toho's silly "each monster is their own separate paid license" policy that's reaching into the point of diminishing returns(and that's not even going into the real bottom tier guys like Giant Condor, Giant Octopus, Maguma, or Gabara)

funny to think that what's probably the most vicious version of Godzilla we've ever gotten is also probably the smallest one, also I think this is the first time we've gotten a Godzilla with a proper atomic breath that never really fired it in the more traditional beam style, he's always just firing single shots, lastly this is probably the most gruesome death any version of Godzilla has ever had at least in terms of onscreen detail
