It really is the perfect valentine to the entire first fifty years of the series, despite being its own story in its own universe. They even give a jab at the 1998 film. Pay attention to the human villain's name.

One of my favorite parts of GMK is near the beginning, they make an offhand remark about a recent monster attack in New York that the Americans claim was Godzilla, but Japanese scientists are sure it wasn't.

Godzilla 2000 did this too I think. Or whichever one it was that came out after Zilla.

GMK was 2001 and G2K was 1999 I think; it was probably in the can before they had time to judge the American film. It's been a long time since I've seen either, though.

Or the opposite. Just go, nukes are great, Godzilla needs to get over it. Then they team up and Godzilla chucks a Jaeger at the real villain and blows him up.

This is a concept a Japanese film company is really likely to go with. I like it.

Mothra is still a giant moth, just like Godzilla is a giant dinosaur. You're acting like this is some taxonomic thing. It isn't. The character Mothra is a giant moth, her name literally means big moth

Unless "-ra" means "big" in Japanese, no, it does not literally mean "big moth."

I saw G2K in theaters, the only one I've been able to do so. I had a good time and I've always liked that movie, and that's probably my favorite G suit as well.

IIRC, the idea is that tens of millions of years ago during the time of dinosaurs, aliens invaded Earth using Blob-style monsters that absorb local fauna and adapt and evolve into ever more deadly organic weapons. There was a sentient civilization at that time, that stole the mutating/evolving goop and applied it to a T-Rex, creating Godzilla. Godzilla wiped out the alien invasion and was returned to stasis alongside the original alien probe, and the precursor civilization was wiped out when the asteroid ended the age of dinosaurs.

Then, in the modern day, an oil drilling expedition in Alaska accidentally drills into the ancient stasis vault, waking up and releasing both Godzilla and the alien probe. Godzilla goes on a rampage while the alien probe infects a guy in the expedition, ultimately mutating him into a huge mutant kaiju called the Gryphon. Godzilla kills the Gryphon, ending the alien threat, and the humans manage to use some of the stasis goop from Godzilla's cell to lull him back to sleep.

This sounds in isolation like a top-tier G film.

That's pretty much the source of that 'Godzilla Threshold' thing in tvtropes; when the situation has degraded to the point where awakening a sleeping Godzilla has become a reasonable response. It seems rather fitting given the themes of nuclear weapons the franchise is rooted in.

This is how Trump got elected imo.

That's a negative on Kong. There's got to be more to it, or else I don't know how they expect it to excite people more than this one.
