I've been slowly working my way through the Criterion set and I gotta say, I loved Son of Godzilla. Kumonga and the Kamacuras are really cool and while Minilla is kind of derpy all the stuff with him and Godzilla was funny and endearing. I also watched vs. Ebirah for the first time non MSTed and liked it a lot too, from what I understand both movies have the same creative team. They brought a great sense of scale to the kaiju with some pretty inventive and dynamic shots (for the time) and are both in general just some fun and breezy movies.

My son is six and Son of Godzilla is his favorite (followed by the original two Mechagodzilla films). He loved Son in Spacegodzilla, but wondered why he looked different. I told him because he was slightly older.

My son picked up on the different costume. It still looks bad, but it's a step up from the original.

Godzilla vs. Hedorah has the random eco-love song in the dance club (until everyone turns into fish-headed dancers) AND the hippy party on the mountain complete with a rock band with electric instruments and no visible power source.

My son's reaction to the delay: "Why can't they just release it so I can watch it here [at home] like Scoob?"

While I'd love that, I reckon this movie's too big of a release for that kind of thing.

that's basically what Shin Godzilla was, and it'd be awesome if they continued either letting other directors take over, or just have Anno make Shin 2.

Remake Godzilla vs Hedorah, but even trippier.

I actually mean that. That's my favorite and letting a fresh director just go all out on it would be awesome.

At least it's not a creepy shrine to the Mothra Twins.

Anywho, was the Arrow Gamera box set super limited edition or something? It's sold out everywhere and is going for crazy prices on the secondary market. I'd love to get one, but not for $400.

Oh good. Here's hoping they release them in the States. Looks like they're just region 2 preorders on their website.

It's important to keep in mind that Amazon routinely lowers prices in pre-orders as they get closer to launch. For example, most Arrow Video pre-orders start at around 40 and end up 27 on release.

Good to know. I locked in my preorders. If nothing else they'll be a fun birthday present to myself as they're releasing the day after my birthday.

Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Godzilla vs. Gigan and Godzilla vs. Megalon came out one after another and each one manages to be goofier than the one before.

Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah hinges on a time-travel plot that doesn't make sense even by time-travel standards.

And yeah, Final Wars has an alien invasion, mutants fighting with motorcycles, Godzilla using Anguirus as a soccer ball and Don Frye's mustache.

Don't forget blatantly ripping off The Matrix.

My seven year old LOVES Final Wars. Probably because it's non-stop craziness.

(And yes, I fully admit to loving that craziness too. Although VS Hedorah is still my jam.)

Not only that, it's also (as far as I know) the only G movie to include nudity in the form of porn displayed in the truck behind the driver.

Next to vs Hedorah, vs Megalon is my fave Showa G movie. Mostly because of Jet Jaguar, but it's fun all around.

Saw Minus One last night with my 9 year old son. We both absolutely loved it and I would have loved it more if the asshats next to me would have shut up during the movie, instead of adding commentary like calling the male lead gay and loving laughing at the hospital reunion at the end.

I'll definitely pick it up when it comes out on bluray so I can enjoy it without the frat boy commentary.

Gotta love Godzilla. I'll say 54 is still a much better movie, but this was cool, and it's like a good modern "best of/remix" and its production values were kind of like "here's some traditional Godzilla stuff and we freaking dare you to laugh". Good job spreading the Godzilla word.

Now here's hoping the next one has this bad boy fighting some monster from outer space.

Since all his pieces began regenerating at the end, we could see multiple Godzillas fight each other.

I saw this yesterday with my 10 year old. He really liked it, but for me I was pretty meh about it. The fight scenes, especially with Godzilla, felt... lackluster. Kong had some decent moments, but G really felt shoehorned into the story.

I'm fine with more Legendary Godzilla and Kong movies, but I definitely think they need a few of their own individual entries before doing another team up film.

That new Apes movie looks good - that’s not Disney tho.

Just back tho and movie is okay. Better than GvK but it makes KoTM look good. It’s a weird thing to say. The end fight was a blurry mess too and just kinda wraps up in a neat bow. There is next to no stakes here and everything is easy to solve. Barely an inconvenience. This needs better writers.

How did Mothra get summoned out of nowhere? No giant egg? Would have been neat to have the deaf girl finding out she has an identical twin down there tying into Mothras backstory. But we got nothing.

And the “we got daft punk at home” score was terrible. Along with the pop songs they chose for Ace Ventura Kaiju Detective.

I was waiting for the twin reveal too. Odd they just threw that out after already kinda using it in KotM.
