If I get the Special Pick ticket, what's the best things to grab with it? So far I have these for SSRs:

Character: Sophia, Katalina, but here's a picture of my box right now: http://i.imgur.com/E9H3Cca.png

Weapon: Murgleis, Ocean Harp

Summon: Satyr

Yoda, Sara and Cagliostro look the most interesting character-wise. I was thinking I might need a better primary summon, though. The beginner guide seems to like Grani a lot?

Valatar posted:

Broadly speaking, the game punishes jack of all trades. Huge amounts of overall effectiveness comes from weapons, weapon skills, and summons. So even if, for example, you have three top-tier fire characters for a party, you're still relatively gimped if you don't also have a good fire summon and fire weapons. The summon's aura alone can easily provide a 40+ percent boost to your attacks. The weapon skill on each SSR weapon you have equipped could be adding another 6+ percent. Do the math real quick and you'll see that your party's power can be tripled by the right equipment.

So the question is less 'what characters do I need?' and more 'if I get these characters, do I have the other stuff to support them, or can I acquire it easily?'

RNJesus was not overly kind to you at this point. You have a fire summon, a water attacker, and a light support. Satyr isn't so good that I'd feel inspired to build a fire team around him. Katalina is good, so going for more water probably wouldn't hurt, especially if you do the Cocytus fights to pick up his summon for free. Then you'd have a couple good water characters and a decent water summon to go with them. Sophia's great support, and none of her skills specify that they work better on light element, so she doesn't really lose usefulness if you stick her in another element's party.

SSR Catalina is Balanced apparently, not an Attacker. I could grab Yoda for a proper damage dealer to replace Lucius, make sure my main guy has a water weapon and just leave Sophia there for now. Her healing should work nice with Catalina's damage cut once things start actually doing damage.

Like it is true that he falls off past early midgame but during that beginning period it is not even a contest, Yoda destroys all and gets his own power tier.

Eh, the tier list post made him seem solid even later on if I can protect him via damage cuts outside of his unshrouded turns. My only concern so far is that his CA bar feels very random. Sometimes my first one will come on his last shroud charge, some times it will hit on time, other times a turn or two after it refreshes. Is there a way I can better control the tempo?

I got Leviathan for my primary summon now. Will his team bonuses get better if I uncap him? If so, do I just combine more pieces to make more of him and use that to uncap?

Also Drakes suggested I get Leviathan's SR weapons to fill my team out with. Do all of those bonuses stack even if they're the same weapon? Are those worth uncapping? I assume I want to just stack damage bonuses.

First 10 pull: Agielba, Altair, Sutera

Second 10 pull: Lamretta, SSR Rosetta, Philosophia, Hazen.

Cleaned out the new fate episodes, pulled again: Carmelina who is supposedly really awful, and a bunch of R stuff.

Bought a final ten pull because why not, it's only $25: Percival, and a bunch of R stuff.

I still have yet to see an SSR summon, and I've made 91 pulls (50 from the 7 days of 10 pulls and 40 from this). :v: Maybe I can rush through the story and the various new characters and scrape together another 3k in the next few days.

On the upside, Altair lets me push Sophia to my back line and I now have a complete water team: My character with a Murgleis, who is soon to be a Dark Fencer. SSR Catalina, Altair, Yoda.

Current party: My character as Dark Fencer w/ Murgleis, SSR Catalina, Yoda, Altair. Backline is SSR Rosetta and Sophia.

I also have Percival, Agielba and Carmelina sitting in my box.

My summon is garbage (SR Leviathan). I have never seen one to-date. I just got offered the beginner ticket, even though I thought I bought it already, so I probably bought something else with the special pick ticket.

Do I grab Macula Marius, or pick up another REALLY GOOD water character (and if so, who? I am looking at the tier list, maybe Charlotta?) and suck it up until I can grind out Cocytus?

e: Drakes says not to grab a summon for now, any water recommendations, or maybe something off-color that is useful in Rosetta or Sophia's place?

I am debating Lancelot/Silva/Charlotta primarily. Charlotta can just sit in the back and happily grant my party the 5% charge until I need her otherwise. Lancelot secures my end game, Silva fills me out for mid game better. But Yoda is still good for a long time. Of course, I am 600 from another 10 draw, so who knows what will happen before I use the pick ticket!

The other issue is that someone is going in the back line when I grab another water unit, and I don't know who.

I could go into wind, since I have SSR Rosetta as a basis (and Carmelina I guess). And Anat exists if I want to play the casino for a summon. Too bad I can't use the ticket on Anchira. :v:

The nice thing about having Wind and Water as my core teams is that if it's a fire event I can run water, if it's an earth event I can run wind, and otherwise I just pick whichever of the two teams I feel is stronger and never have to actually deal with an opposing element in an event, only weak or neutral ones.

I just realized I am a whale already at $75 into this game in a month. :rip: At least it's fun as gently caress.

Yup, save up! You don't need SSRs to do well in the early game and you'll have much better luck getting more better pulls if you wait until the next legfest.

Agielba's taunt has a really long CD, so he can do that to get knocked down to low HP for bonus damage and then Aliza can take over with her evasion/enmity boost thing I guess? Not sure.

Here is my current box of characters.

I want to actually put together a solid team of Yoda + all SRs and Yoda + all Rs that might have some synergy and be worth uncapping. I need to chase those bonus renown pendants. :v: I figure I'll just run a variety of elements and aim for Grande friends with those teams. I did notice I had a lot of Wind SRs (but only 1 Wind R) if I wanted to do something like work toward Anat.

I've been looking at the SR/notable R lists, but was wondering if anyone had recommendations for particular synergies between characters?

Unless this is a complete waste of time and I should just care about firing off Yoda and giving up.

The tie-in rewards that require you to clear the tutorial and hit certain ranks to get bonuses like draw tickets, AP pots, etc. work perfectly fine.

The tie-in rewards that give you points per day for logging into all 4 games (GBF, IM@S, KoG, RoB) work perfectly fine, assuming that promotion is active (it ran for like a week earlier this month).

"In order to play another quest, either win the battle or retreat."

This always read to me that, in order to do ANYTHING ELSE, you have to leave the battle in progress and give up rewards. Or win, of course. What it actually means is that you can't host another raid. You can go do your own solo quests, you can go do other people's raids.

Hopefully this saves some other newer players a bit of frustration during Strike Time. :v:

Now that my legfest is over and has ended in utter disappointment, I've used my ticket on Lancelot. I am pretty wholly committed to water being my primary element at this point. I am looking for long term advice since I enjoy this game a lot, even if the gacha is a piece of poo poo at times.

Here's my water characters:

I am buying Riruru with the next surprise ticket. My long term team plan is MC, Lancelot, Riruru, Altair in front with Sophia and Charlotta in back. Can flex a bit with Yoda for Strike times (and Silva if I luck out or play long enough) or Katalina for fights where I need the extra sustain.

My current weapon pool is 3 ssr levi daggers, ssr kat and yoda's weapon, a random mix of sr levi weapons with medium attack, and a bahamut gun. I'm also making a basic bahamut dagger since I have extra horns, and it will take the place of the gun until extreme late game. I chose the gun for a long-term project because literally everything in water that matters is a human or harvin. I also have a MLB GW harp that I haven't upgraded at all yet.

My main questions revolve around 'what do I do with my MC?'

I'm almost done maxing out the Row 3 classes, and I have enough CP for Samurai and Ninja already. I'm probably going to continue to run Superstar as my main class once I finish leveling these up. But once I get Riruru, I don't really know what to do. Should I keep Superstar and go hard as gently caress on just supporting Lancelot, swap into something defensive to keep him alive, or just go full on damage?

What about long-term with GW weapons? The harp can get elementalized and be left alone. Nio seems good but I don't play wind. Quatre doesn't fit my needs at all, though Uno seems alright. None of the GW stuff super excites me for water, beyond just elementalizing specific weapons.

What about other elements? My water team is super competent. I have a lot of SSRs and SRs for fire and wind, and a little for earth. People have given me advice on who to use in those teams, but at the end of the day I keep stopping and going 'well, is it even worth bothering?' It isn't that those teams aren't playable, but it feels like they aren't worth the time unless I pull something very specific.

My fire and wind team have a full medium or large attack grid with a mix of magna and normal weapons, and MLB magna summons. My earth team no investment. My light and dark pool aren't worth discussing aside from esteemed bench-sitter Sophia.

Do your hards every day if you're into the nitty-gritty spergy parts of the game. Especially so if you have the capability to clear them with SR/R teams (like if you have Yoda).

You can do 18 hards per day. Each is worth 12 renown. Each surviving R in the party is worth +6, each surviving SR is worth +3. These are extra bonuses on top of the weekly 2k limit, thus giving you 3k a week.

Here's some basic math assuming 2 surviving Rs or 2 surviving SRs (I play MC/yoda/2 of each).

18 hards per day is 216 renown, or 1512 per week. This is 126 battles. It takes 42 battles with 2 surviving Rs to cap the bonus (2.33 days), it takes 84 battles with 2 surviving SRs to cap the bonus (4.66 days), letting you completely cap them in exactly a week.

Even if you never touch magnas the entire week, you'll pick up 2512 renown per week. You are, of course, going to spend your EP, which means you can easily cap out each week, possibly sooner.

But what about the AP cost? You're running through 450 AP just to do all 18. You earn 288 a day, but realistically you won't use all of that perfectly because you sleep and you aren't a robot. 200 a day is more reasonable. You get a twitter reset daily, which has a variable value based on your rank. If you're doing casino, picking up 5 half pots a day isn't too hard, though you will run out during the month.

Of course, if you're actively working on an event that uses a lot of AP, you might have other priorities!
