Kinda sounds like they badly need a union or something tbh to hold the line, at least on the financial and working conditions piece. Same problem as the games industry in general though in that there's so many people who want to do this kind of thing that you can just chew talented people up and replace them once they're husks.

Basically capitalism I guess

Esports leagues are propped up by sponsor and investor money and see very little actual revenue. I'd imagine the guys running them are more interested in separating as much money as possible from sponsors and investors than making a decent product.

Quitting seems smart, it's a bubble that's going to burst.

It's still hosed that he can admit to it and it takes more than a single day to ban his rear end, though. He had sponsors and everything, it's not like he was some under the radar account streaming for 9 viewers. Someone had to have @'d Twitch saying, "Hey this dude's loving gross."

The article mentions he hasn't streamed since then, but when you have the "ban heinous criminal from your platform" button in front of you, why not immediately press it, y'know?

yes but the discourse about unions in the US is so poisoned, especially in tech/games, that it's practically a dirty word for a lot of Tech People and Gamers. they'd rather come up with an excuse for why they aren't doing "the bad thing" while still actually doing it

It’s a mix of priority (some melee attacks are just faster than others), sometimes range, and also sprinkle some delay-based netcode that needs to juggle four players, some actually using WiFi

Noble gundam being able to auto cancel melee attacks has really spoiled me lol, hard to get used to rainbow stepping for combos again!

unsure which crossbone you're playing (there's 4)

nobel's priority and speed in melee isn't actually that good, and it actually gets worse in berserker mode since she loses access to her high priority drill tackle and the beam ribbon spin that lets her cancel out of some moves. her melee damage is high but she cant really challenge other melee suits facefirst. so thats probably why you're losing out

I read "Kairi" as "Karin" at first, and was suddenly extremely interested in seeing cross-dressing Ryu.

Still, that's wild. Is it possible that the last character for Season V ends up being an EX character?

No clue, but the costume specifically credits Kairi as a FEXL character and not a SFEX character, which is kinda weird.

I bet they'll add Skullomania, just so he's two for two in being guest DLC wasted on a lame game.

For real, I'd be hype for an Arika team in KoF XV or hell like just put Area or Garuda in Samurai Shodown or something.

Been playing fantasy strike a bit since it's gone f2p. As much as it pains me the gameplay is pretty fun and netcode is solid.

The more interesting part of the game I think is how they handle ranked mode. I think too many fighting games don't push people to be a multi character specialist. For those who don't know in fantasy strike you select 3 characters and you have to win once each of those characters vs your opponents character choice to win the ranked match.

More fgs should have you select 3 or so characters and have a ban/pick phase before the match. Throws in some counter play and mind games at higher levels and allows for more unique matchups online. I suppose Fantasy strike is able to get away with this style more as the characters are vastly less complex than other fighters.

Tag games and KoF all incentivize learning to play multiple characters though?

They don't have a pick/ban phase, but even with the amount of league I play I don't really see why I'd want to port that into a fighting game. There's too much to learn with most characters versus something like league where, yeah there's individual character mechanical things to learn, but a lot more of your results are about the strategy and macro play that you execute over the next 30 minutes rather than did you nail this specific combo of abilities together.

Pick/ban is really great for mobas because you have 100+ heroes that operate fairly similarly and have access to the same items, so if your fave gets banned or countered you can just pick someone else you like who fits a similar role. And having a playable stable of 4-5 heroes is way easier than learning 1 average fg character.

The FS ranked system is unique but I don't think I like it.

-The roster only has 12 characters and I'm forced to roll with a team of 3, when there's only ~2 characters I enjoy playing.
-The team format is backwards from how most games do it. Instead of simply knocking out their team, you need to win with each of your characters. Combine this with a lot of uneven matchups, you might get reverse OCV'd with your worst character after easily going up 2-0.
-Lots of time sitting in menus, even mid-match. This is probably to make the complexity of this format legible. Before each game there's that long animation shuffling the characters in your team (why can't they be put in order, anyway?). Animations to show the winning characters getting locked out. Animations to show your progress through the fake ranked mode brackets you're playing through, progress through the ranked system, etc. Everything going on outside the game just seems to take way too long.

To paraphrase a Spider-man programmer at GDC, when you see that kind of flourish that takes way too long, that's because they're not flourish, they're animated loading screens.

Sounds like pick/ban will be great for Tekken Tag 3.

pick/ban would go really poorly in gg, since many gg players have been playing the same character for years (decades?)

I remember doing an xrd auction tournament at combo breaker and people were pretty much only bidding on their mains. I decided to bid on Slayer because he was only $2 and got bodied by zenzen ky

HA! HA! NICE! WHAT A TOOL!
I imagine the 3 character system is Fantasy Strike trying to flex the fact that there aren't as many mechanical demands to get up and running with multiple characters (idk how true this actually is). In anything even slightly more sophisticated it's pretty hopeless.

Ms. Unsmiley
Feb 13, 2012

pick/bans hurt character specialists, who often bring the most hype to lesser used characters. like imagine if people just kept banning rangchu from using panda or eyemusician from using yoshimitsu, or marlinpie from using viper or angelic from using shuma-gorath. banning chars in fgs is so wack. ppl would just learn the safest and easiest characters and not even bother with anything else cuz anything unknown would get banned asap so they dont have to deal with it
