3 C's 3 D's, coinflip favors C.

Although you nearly led a full on charge towards the nearest gate, several of you groping at each other to use as human projectiles, you ultimately decide to make a more tactical advance into the city deciding to infiltrate the slums.

You wait for the guard shift to rotate, and when opportunity presents itself, the Duergar child squeezes through the gates opening it for you adventurers. You're quickly spotted by Drow slummers, but aside from their scowls they do little to impede you given the quality of their existence here in Menzoberranzan. In short order, you find a seedy tavern where a grizzled human sits at the bar wiping a dirty glass with an even dirtier rag.

A number of creatures skulked about drowning themselves in mead and ale. The bartender takes note of you.

"You all clearly aren't from around here... Can I interest you in a drink? I wouldn't recommend more than a couple rounds unless your trying to get yourselves killed."

In short order, he has you seated at a couple of rickety tables lined with tankards.

So what brings you here?

 1. We're here to stop the Drow menace.
 2. Looking for someone who can help.
 3. Taking in the sights.
 4. Stealing everything not nailed down.

Still waiting for a few night actions, let me know if you aren't using any

B, is the victor this time.

Although some of you had your eyes set on combat and riches, others among you simply studied your surroundings. However, the consensus was that you should find someone who could help with your objective.

The bartender chuckles to himself, before plucking lightly at the hairs on his chin.

"Don't know what kind of help you're looking for, but I can guarantee you won't find much of it here."

A well-dressed, handsome Drow emerges from the shadows in an elaborately patterned cloak.

The bar patrons look surprised.

"L-Lord T'sarran, please forgive me, I'll have you a table sat immediately."

"No need, and please... call me Jhaamdath."

Jhaamdath waves the bar tender away, and approaches your tables.

"Judging by the weapons you carry, I think you may need a very special kind of help. One that I might be able to offer with an arrangement. If you agree, I'll have you all as guests in my home where we can work out the details."

Agreeing to the Drow's offer, he summons 2 spider drawn carriages and you are escorted through the streets of the slums to his manor that overlooked the district.

"Well, I'm glad you agreed to meet with me in private. Please, make my home yours while you deliberate further. I'm afraid I have matters to attend to, but we will meet again at night to discuss our arrangement. Until then, I bid you farewell," and with that, Jhaamdath T'sarran left you in his home with slaves of the Underdark tending to your needs.

After speculation and debate, you adventurers crowd around SirSamVimes with blades drawn determining him to be among the Underdark conspirators. You cut him down and the illusion fades from his corpse.

quote:

You are a Red Wizard.

The Red Wizards, formerly known as the Red Wizards of Thay before a coup led by Szass Tam, are an organization of wizards in Faerūn. During their height of power, the Red Wizards were the notorious and nefarious spellcasting ruling class of the inhospitable but well-inhabited country of Thay. Slavers, demonologists, and magical experimenters, the Red Wizards were much feared by most of Faerūn.

Unbridled Power (2-Shot Absorber)

You have a factional night-kill meaning that each night one of you may night-kill a player. You have the ability to absorb abilities that target you during the night, if more than one targets you, you will receive an ability randomly. The ability becomes 1-shot, and you can use it on the next night. You can copy abilities this way twice during the game. You may communicate with the other [Underdark-Aligned].

You are Underdark-Aligned. You win if at least one member of your group is alive and all other players are dead (or if nothing can prevent the same).

It is now Night 4. 24 hours for any actions.

Night fell once again, but this time you found yourselves in the decadent residence of one of the Drow families.

Jhaamdath appeared as promised.

His gaze turns to the body of SirSamVimes, covered in silk sheet.

"I see you too have had an interesting day. Treachery and deceit skulk in every corner don't they?" he asked with a knowing grin.

"Well, let's get down to it. Our arrangement... A business proposition, if you will. However, let us do away with pretense. I know you are here to stop the Queen of the United Underdark from spreading her military might on the surface, and I want to help."

"As you may have surmised, she has already laid claim to every inch of the Underdark and those who've stood against her have been decimated."

"However, not all of the Drow houses agree with her plan, and you can bet even those who are in agreement are eagerly awaiting their chance at true power. My kinsman are a bit narrow-sighted though. True power.... true power need not be measured by military might, riches, or even divine favor. It is absolute dominance, the assertion of indomitable will. The total subservience of a lesser who has accepted that they are in fact a lesser. Some say Lolth favors the priestesses and our matriarchs. I beg to differ. I don't think Lolth cares either way, so long as she's amused, and I think you might just play a grand part in that amusement."

"In the regiment you spotted in the military district, a number of her generals palms are greased by representatives of my house. We may be a conniving people, but many still have mouths to feed and not everyone is given the privilege of being born into a well-established house that has curried favor with the gods."

"There's a ceremony coming up, marking the beginning of the invasions in two days time..."

"I can assure you that my men will fight on my behalf. It should be an ample enough distraction to get you a one on one audience with the commander and the Queen."

"I only ask that you bring back her amulet. Take it from her severed head for all I care, it is imperative however that I have it."

"Do we have a deal?"

After agreeing to Jhaamdath's arrangement, he has servants remove the corpse of SirSamVimes from his home. You are treated to a luxurious banquet where Jhaamdath regales you with tales of the Underdark, informing you about its inhabitants and the political climate of Menzoberranzan. Fine meats and wine settling on your stomachs, you turn in for the evening. However, the night is seldom quiet. Especially so in the underdark.

When you stir from your slumber, gannyGrabber is found with his neck slit open.

quote:

Pretend it's a goblin

You are an Enlighted Fist.
An enlightened fist strikes with unerring accuracy, using astral copies of himself projected onto the material plane and attached to him by astral cords. These projections serve as vessels for his physical form, allowing the enlightened fist to move between them with instantaneous speeds in order to quickly traverse obstacles, navigate battlefields and outwit foes through superior mobility.

Astral Sacrifice (Lightning Rod)

One time during the game, you can perform the Astral Sacrifice. You'll redirect all night actions to you during the night. If you die this way, you can designate a player to kill in retaliation by separating their soul from their body with an astral strike.

You are Adventurer-Aligned. You win when all that threatens you in the Underdark have been slain.

gannyGrabber has died Night 4.

---

Jhaamdath T'Sarran appears yet again. "I know I said to make yourselves at home, but this is a bit excessive. I'll have servants tend to it. Make your preparations, the ceremony is tomorrow."

IT IS NOW DAY 5. 48 HOUR DEADLINE.

Welllll thennnn......

:siren: War in the Underdark :siren:

The ceremony is underway as all the Drow legion is lined up waiting for anointing by their Queen, with all of their allies also in attendance.

You watch under disguise nearby when the Commander takes the podium alongside the Queen and bellows out a chant that echoed throughout Menzoberranzan.

That's when a high pitched whistle sounds off, and the group is plunged into chaos as the Drow turn on one another.

An unexpected development, and the Queen becomes flush with anger.

That's when you begin your advance, storming through the combat that's erupted. Engaging the horde only when it was unavoidable.

You reach the podium, when Friction.123 steps out in front of you with a dagger, looking to plunge it deep into one of your chests, but you catch her hand and subdue her.

quote:

You are a Drow Matriarch.
"Drow are feared and reviled throughout the Underdark and on the surface above, and for good reason. Drow are the most evil race in existence; they are cruel, devious and treacherous. The drow would do almost anything to gain more power.

The eternal game of advancement which the vast majority of the drow are embroiled in has transformed them into schemers and knifing backstabbers. This attitude is encouraged by the spider queen Lolth who enjoys the dark elves’ plotting.

As Matriarch, you command a legion of Drow who scheme to overthrow you, but fear keeps them subsirvient as you are a chosen of Loth. A natural born leader, a powerful adversary and a cunning tactician."

Matriarch(Godfather) / Drow Legion (Anonymous Second Vote)

You have a factional night-kill meaning that each night one of you may night-kill a player. You cannot be killed by actions in the night, you must be lynched. If investigated, you show up as [Adventurer-Aligned]. Additionally, you control an anonymous second vote that you can PM the moderator once during the game. You may communicate with the other [Underdark-Aligned] here.

You are Underdark-Aligned. You win if at least one member of your group is alive and all other players are dead (or if nothing can prevent the same).

The Commander gave you more pause, but outnumbered he was easily defeated. The Queen flung spells at you and summoned the aid of the illithid and even a beholder, but your tenacity could not be dwindled and after a long and bloody battle, you emerge victorious. The Drow legion broken, and all the citizens of Menzoberranzan looking at you remaining adventurers who had undone all the Queen had plotted. You cease up her Amulet which shimmered with an unholy light and as Jhaamdath looked on eager, for his reward, you crush it. A wisp made of necrotic energy escapes from it and you can see the utter defeat in his eyes.

Absolutely victorious, you march out of Menzoberranzan and out of the Underdark, the realm having been saved from peril once again.

Regrets:
I regret having strongman only on quid, or having so many prot roles in town.
I regret not making SK total immune to investigation, not just cop.
Uh, I probably have other regrets, but I want to thank you all for playing!

AA I have to ask.

Was the Dwarven Defender having an ability called Blockade intended, or a lucky coincidence?

coincidence lol

King Burgundy posted:

I think the only thing that really need to change to put it more in balance was to not have strongman and roleblock on the same guy. Like maybe quid is roleblock/framer and yuming is strongman/ninja.

Still need at least one role that can catch the SK I think, and having it be tracker was fine.

Most of the rest was us getting really lucky. Just consider all the people that could have died to PGO for example, etc. Or if we hadn't D1 vigged Quid. Etc.

I think you mostly had the balance right.

Yeah, balance on these role madness types is always tricky for me, but I enjoy watching them unfold. Should have balanced scum powers better for sure.
