Momo: Your words cause Croc and his goons to turn your way, allowing Mahakali the perfect opportunity to sneak along the side of the concourse. There are two goons standing guard over the hostages, with machine guns leveled at them. How do you plan on saving them?

Bones: Croc snarls at you, but lowers his sword from the hostage's head and turns to you. "Heroes, eh? You look over your head, kid."

You opened up a critical opportunity - to save the mall manager! Then, decide whether you accept or reject his Influence - that you're in over your head. If you accept, shift Savior down and Mundane up.

Obsidian: You heat up - and so does everything else around you. Even your teammates are starting to feel the heat, and the floor is starting to melt underneath you. Do you really think that you can engage in this fight without injuring the many hostages? How can you move forward?

Max: Your words seemed to have helped Bones distract Nazi Croc. What are you going to do with the opportunity? Which of the many goons seems different to you, and why?

Simulacrum: You suddenly sense many alerts pinging out of the Shopping Mall - civilians in danger! An attack by Nazi Croc! You race there as only you can - through the many circuits and relays of Central City. What do you as you emerge into the physical world? What do you think of the young heroes you find yourself among?

Everybody else: A bright flash, and suddenly standing in the middle of the room is a glowing girl - a teen of some sort with clear supernatural abilities. What do you do?

There was only one thing she could do, and that is to attack them all at once, and it would take all of her focus to make sure the others weren't hurt. She would give it her all, she wouldn't let them hurt anyone anymore, she would have to stop them completely and utterly. Using the heat that was building within her she reached out in a plasma that erupted from her hands and eyes and went to the nazis in the front of the stage. The heat was melting things as it hovered near metal and cement, but the plasma seemed to flow in a twisting odd path that managed to hit into the weapons that were in range of her.

She would take their weapons away from them with the hope her teammates could save them! The focus was intense, as she kept the pulses of heat in balance and away from any regular people.

OK, Momo needs everyone to hold up for a brief sec, because for a little while everything was totally making sense - Bones and her were cracking jokes, Max was doing her thing being the best hero on the team and also pretty funny, Migeul's had his nose in a book and Obsidian was getting a lot too hot under the collar. That's all pretty usual, even if they're in a mall which is rare and up against weirdo lizard-Nazis which is somehow just as rare in her limited time as a hero. Her plan has worked - that's not rare, she'd just mention it at this point. Mostly she's laughing at Bones and Max's performance, it's hilarious!

But then everything goes totally haywire! Since all of a sudden there's a weird electrical-girl here in the middle of things, demanding Momo and the rest of the team identify themselves... and now she really wants to listen to the Daft Punk Tron Soundtrack. "Oh hey, I'm Momo," Momo waves to her casually, regretting that Mahakali isn't next to her to wave also like she usually has him do. "Guess you wanna help us beat up a buncha weirdass Nazis?" Cool.

Spark Woman's stolen the hell out of her and Mahakali thunder as far as keeping those hostages safe, but between Obsidian starting to go nuts and this newcomer showing up all of a sudden, Momo thinks it's time for some hasty repositioning on her part - namely, far away from all these obvious threats! She works just as well from far away from battle after all, and she's more than willing to demonstrate that she's got tricks up her sleeves that aren't Mahakali - and that's why she beats a retreat up the escalator nearby, determined to get to the second floor, her loyal shadow guardian tagging along behind her.

Once she's up there she's got a prime vantage point on the battlefield, able to figure out a few important things and avoid being roasted by Obsidian, which is fairly important to her. Shame she doesn't have time to shoplift anything - well she does, but she's going to put her time to better use putting her uncannily cunning mind to work figuring out how best to really pants the hell out of these bad guys, in a metaphorical sense of course.

"So, what caliber are those revolvers of yours?" Rayna asked.
"Caliber?" Max replied.
The look the rehabilitating child soldier gave him was almost as bad has he'd imagined it.

Max's guns weren't, exactly. They were more like wands, in that they didn't jam and didn't run out of ammunition. They looked and felt enough like the real thing that Citadel instructors assigned extra instruction time for firearms safety and maintenance. Something about being a role model. Some of it's managed to stick so far, which is why one of the goons sticks out like a sore thumb: his trigger discipline is terrible. The muzzle's pointed low enough that he'd shoot the ground before he got anything else, and he's obviously distracted, fiddling with his glasses. Did that Google Glass thing ever work out? Is that goon wearing a camera? If he is, maybe he's waiting for the newest arrival.

The arrival of a glowing girl in an even brighter flash of light leaves Max with a brief urge to hide behind a mall shrub before it registers that the shining girl is not a member of the Shining Host. Max sidesteps anyway, hands dipping to the handles of her revolvers, encouraged by the waves of heat spilling from Obsidian.

Identification? Um. "School field trip?" Max calls out. It's better than halfway to being a question.

And Bones flips out. The elf hovers on the edge of opening fire on Croc, but can't decide which possible outcome would be worse: hitting Bones and scattering bits of him around the concourse, or just making it look like he can't take care of himself.

Max turns, walking slowly and steadily sideways toward a support pillar, launching magical bolts at a clump of thugs. Suppressive fire, or trick shooting? Don't ask her, he hasn't got to that part of the course yet.

A combination of powers, and suddenly bullets, fire, and goons are flying everywhere. Obsidian's magma has most of the goons running scared, and the few remaining are picked off by Max's storm of bullets.

Bones: You throw yourself forward, entering into deadly melee range with the sword-wielding crocodile. For a second, you pause to consider the value of disarming something with that many sharp, sharp teeth... but your plan is already in motion - no going back now! Croc snarls at you, then impales you with the sword (hey! it's working!)... and then lifts you clean off the ground with it! He grins cruelly, "You'll have to do better than that!" then tosses you, sword and all, across the room and into a pillar.

Take a powerful blow!

Momo: Your eagle's eye view of the battlefield tells you a number of things. One: that there's only a couple Nazi's left to infuriate or provoke, though calling them names is always a good bet. Two: that Croc is likely the most vulnerable to verbal assault, though if you're planning on something more physical, probably that one goon in the corner still trying to clear a jam in his gun, blissfully unaware of the surrounding chaos. And, three: that Croc is the last person really resisting the heroes after that show of power from Obsidian and Max. And, he's busy manhandling Bones. So... what do you do?

Obsidian: Your magma powers level a majority of the goons, and combined with Max, you've sent the running for the hills. However, that leaves Croc, who just threw Bones across the room. Croc snarls and whirls around, grabbing his hostage by the jacket and leaps onto the second floor lobby. He turns to you, seeing you as the biggest threat to his plot, and snarls. He looks ready to drop the hostage, likely killing the man. What do you do?

Max: Your artful attacks send goons fleeing, and you can't help but feel a shock of success run through you. Yes! However, the feeling of joy is stopped short suddenly when a series of bullets ping into the place your feet just were. You turn in surprise - and see that same goon who was struggling before. He's doing no better now - muzzle waving wildly, hands shaking - but he's got his gun leveled at you, and this close, it could do a lot of damage. This close, however, you can also see who it is... the goon is just a kid, another teenager (sort of) like yourself! He shouts at you with a shaky voice, "F-freeze! We're... er... I'm... I've got you!" What do you do?

Simulacrum: The group of "heroes" you've just impeded on spring into action, as do you - though, your defensive barrier isn't much needed as bullets and magma bolts tear apart the goon troops. Two threats remain - Croc, who is currently threatening to kill a civilian, and some tiny goon with the elf hero in his crosshairs. Who do you choose to help? What do you do?

Wow, gently caress this whole battle. Weirdo cyborg girl's helping out, but Obsidian's flinging Lava everywhere and that freaky Croc Nazi just hosed Bones up pretty bad! From high up above the battlefield, all the way on the second floor of the relatively crummy mall they're in, Momo's decided to remind these dumb Nazis just who they're dealing with. Looking over at her Mahakali with a giant grin on her face, she and the Shadow Guardian bump fists, and then he's floating down towards the floor, trailing behind one of the pillars, and Momo's heading over to the railing at the Croc and beginning to put into action a plan she's got seventy five percent figured out.

Stepping up onto the railing with one foot, she points down at Killer Croc and all his goons. "HEY CROCODILE DUMBDEE!" Momo calls, sounding entirely more pleased with herself than that insult warrants. She's just buying time for Mahakali anyways, and it's time to put her natural ability to troll the poo poo out of other people to good use. "Get it? Because you're really dumb? I mean if you weren't you'd have gone with a better name like Killer Caiman or Awesome Alligator or something, and you'd have been looking out behind you!" If he had, he'd have seen why she was so keen to keep him distracted...

Mahakali punctuates Momo's last insult rather dramatically - having been stalking down behind the pillar and then floating towards the distracted Nazi Croc - by delivering a rapid series of punches and jabs to the fascist reptile. "Looks like that smarts!" Momo can't help but add. Want to know the best part of having a ranged shadow guardian? As she heaved for air, Obsidian finally noticed a robotic woman just appear of thin air. She looked more normal that Obsidian even though she was all robotic and stuff, and that felt weird, the robotic girl? Seemed to be helping and that was all that mattered. Of course, the plasma had sent them running, but not the important part. drat it, she thought, why couldn't she do it all in one go? Without a word, Obsidian looks at the newcomer and was about to open her mouth with Bones smashed into a pillar. It seems like everything around her is crumbling for some reason! She sets her rocky jaw and looks over to to see her be face to face with a gun.

She turns to the robot girl that had appeared out of like nowhere and said, "Please, help him!" Pointing at the hostage above as she went to turn toward Max who was also in trouble!

Obsidian picks up some of the ground cement and throws it at the kid, trying to disarm him while in the meantime running between Max and the gun. Her hard exterior was more than bulletproof, better they shoot her instead of Max. Obsidian didn't realize how squishy other people looked since she had turned to stone, and she briefly thought if she was that way when she was more... humanlike.

"Don't you hurt my friend." She says as she gets in the line of fire.

Guns, wands, whatever, it's working. As easily as pointing and clicking, Max sends colorful bolts whizzing past the ears and amid the heels of suddenly confused goons. Run! they seem to hiss, bolstered by the shock of impact raining down about their feet. It's so easy, mortals taking flight with nary a mark!

A laugh, high-pitched and wild, stifles itself as a flurry of faux-marble shrapnel invites the elf to dance, and a quick glance to its source brings Max back to what passes for reality.

Max's fey progenitor never met Canada Bill Jones, but his adage about a Smith and Wesson beating four aces still works with a couple of raises. This close, you don't need to be accurate with something like what the other kid is carrying. Recoil will draw you a picture as bloody as a sharpshooter's. The look in his eye and the quake in his voice brings the ersatz elf back to the awful afternoon when he found himself as her for the first time, and the hammers under her thumbs made it seem like the world was made of targets to nail.

Max stops dead. "'Kay. You got me. I'll just..." she begins, slowly and carefully, easing her thumbs off the hammers and fingers away from the triggers. He gets maybe halfway through that before Obsidian dashes between them.

The sound of impact draws the elf's attention with a jerk, and her eyes go wide at the sight of Bones impaled on a pillar. Organs or not, with Obsidian taking care of the goon who had him pinned, Max lights across the way and grabs onto the sword, trying to pull it free.

"Bones! Max! Dude! Can you hear me? It's going to be cool. Do people still say that? You've got more guts than an elephant."

Max felt the sword shift between his ribs. It was Max, pulling at the sword. Trying to free him. Gods, the girl/boy had spirit, he'd give her that. He could feel something starting to snap.

"H-Haha, g~go gently caress yo~yourself...!" He wheezed. His bony fingers locked around the blade and yanked. Hard. Between his and Max's efforts the blade started to shift. But still it would not come loose. Max's teeth rattled together as his fury started to boil. The bones of his arms started to twist and shift, switching out for larger, stronger bones. His fingers becoming hooked tallons. A dark red light began to gleam in his empty eye sockets. His whole form began to rattle as a scream, long and awful to behold started to build in his chest. An unearthly wail that made the blood run cold. That brought the genentic memories of nights out in the darkness and the screams of the dammed.

Bones ripped himself free of the sword. His ribs cracking as he pulled himself over the hilt. His head shot up soulless eyes latched on the exact spot where the lizard now fought two people. His friends. A single word started repeating, like a drumbeat in his skull

'kill'

The scream only go louder as Bones launched himself upwards with a speed that roared ferocity unbound! His tallons bit into the stone as he threw himself upwards to the second level and over the bannister in a flash. Still howling like a demon! The Croc barely had time to breath before Bones was on him. The Light girl didn't matter, Malaki didn't matter. THIS was HIS! He had to PAY! He had to SUFFER! Bones clawed him ferociously, moving more like a beast than a man. Until with strength born of unholy might he flipped up into the air and choke slammed Croc through the second floor and down onto the first. His prey lay broken before him. YES! YESS! Bones let out one last primal scream right into Croc's face! HIs claws raised to strike down. His skeletal form fully on show!!!

Then he dropped his hands, and stumbled back. The light fading from his eyes. Slumping to the ground, his body shaking. He felt... wrong? Violated somehow, unclean. The pain from his chest hit him, and he bit his non-existant tounge to keep from crying out.

What the hell had that been? It had come out of nowhere! Like it wasn't even him in control... Max looked at his hands, changing them back to the fingers he knew, not these horrible claws. What the hell happened? What was he?

Momo: Mahakali's swift attack on Croc causes him to roar with rage. With a snarl, he swipes at the shadow construct... but his momentum carries him into a close-by pillar, crushing it in half and causing it to crumble. The entire building shudders as I-beams and concrete strains to adjust to the weight of the large glass dome roof. It creaks dangerously... but holds for now. Still - there's at least two dozens innocent people still inside, and if that room comes down, a lot of them could get hurt! What do you do? Gain the condition Guilty.

Simulacrum: The window that Momo and Mahakali provide, however, is more than enough for you to sweep in, bash Croc a bit, and rescue the hostage. Croc roars again in fury at you, but then notices the roof sagging. An evil smile crosses his face, "Heroes... heh. Sure you're up for this?" He reaches out for another pillar, then knocks it loose with his tail. The building shakes again intensely... and then the ceiling starts to collapse! Falling debris is starting to rain down on the innocent people trapped inside the building! What do you do?

Bones: Croc's rampage is now threatening to kill people, but you don't seem to care. The damage done to you, and your body takes it... surprisingly easily. You're not human - not anymore, and you're now using that to your advantage. You launch yourself at Croc, and he bats and swipes at you in a vain attempt to knock you away. NO! You reach out and grab him by the throat, lifting him up, then slamming him down through the lobby floor, disintegrating the walkway - and allowing you to power slam him into the floor. Croc lies whimpering for a second as you back off, staring at your hands... what was that? Croc, however, finally recovers and lifts himself to his feet. He stares at you for a full second, then simply says, "Embrace it, kid. That's true power." With a snarl, he whirls and darts quickly towards the exit, clearly intending an escape. Do you try to stop him with your monstrous powers? Or do you react to the cries for help coming from the innocents still in the building? Croc gains Influence on you, and you mark the condition Afraid.

Arashi - minor note here. I think per the wording of Be the Monster, you only roll when you frighten, intimidate, or cow others. So I think, in the future, do an actual move (directly engage would have been accurate in this case), and then do a second roll for Be the Monster, in that you used your monstrous form to directly engage.

Max: Your words seem to help Bones recover himself... but then he whirls into a rage of bones and anger, attacking Croc unceasingly. You watch as the two collapse an entire walkway, and as Croc says something to Bones that makes him... pause. Meanwhile, the roof is collapsing and there's plenty of people that need saving. What do you do?

Obsidian: Your assault on the kid shocks him, and he drops the gun in surprise. As it hits the floor, it discharges, sending a bullet straight into his foot. He collapses onto the floor, crying and clutching his foot in pain. He looks up at you, "You heroes are all the same! Just hurting people for fun." Clearly, there's a story here. But do you even care? And - great, now the roof is collapsing, and people are running around dodging giant shards of glass and steel. What do you care more about - saving people, or stopping the bad guys? What do you do? And what do you do with the kid - do you say anything to him?

Bones vaulted the banister and landed back down on the ground floor, looking back up at the crumbling supports. On the sper of the moment he threw in some hand-signs. He didn't know why, but it felt.... right, some how. He clapped his hands together, feeling a spark he'd not felt the last dozen or so times he'd tried to do anything this complicated. He braced himself to do that one thing he could.

"EVERYONE! RUN! I'LL HOLD THE ROOF UP! GO!!!" He yelled to the team and anyone else in earshot. As his hands separated Bones could swear that he saw lightning crackle between his fingers.

"GRAVEYARD SHIFT!" Max screamed and slammed his hands into the floor! Countless bones exploded out of his form, spiralling up towards the roof, two giant hands spread their grip across the ceiling! Formed out of numerous smaller pieces. He could feel the weight already shifting, bearing down on him! But that should give everyone a bit of time to run for it! The floor beneath him started to cave. But all of his focus and his energy was on what was up and not down.

There's a quote, or a sentiment, or a something that feels appropriate to this moment, something about riding with the whirlwind or getting out of its way, something that resonates with the fey memories that mutter in his ear like a dozy drunk friend.

Though Croc and most of the other neo-nazis are escaping, this isn't the time to chase after the bonestorm that other-other Max erupts into as he levers himself away from the pillar and launches himself toward the villains' leader. There are still civilians trapped in the midst of this mess!

...besides, she's not entirely sure who that eff-you was aimed at.

A whole section of the concourse's upper level comes down in a shower of gyprock, sparking wires and totally not asbestos dust. Max watches as Bones brings his frustration down on Croc like a club, and as something passes between them in the moment of shock that ensues.

A pillar cracks like a rifle shot, supports buckle, and buried I-beams groan like the fallen. The elf's guns return to their holsters in an instant as she lifts her head and strains her senses, trying to note the pace and direction that cracks are spreading in, and remember where the nearest exits are.

Why is it that Momo knows it's predictable that a Nazi reptile would be a total bastard shitheel rear end in a top hat - yet it still catches her off guard when he starts smashing pillars to try and bring this whole place down around him? Roofs are heavy as hell, especially when there's stonework and metallurgy involved, and yeah she doesn't want to get killed by a dumb cave in and she's up on the second floor so it's time to change that quickly. Also he's trying to run away and a lot of innocent people are about to get hurt, so she should probably do something about that stuff too.

Sprinting towards the edge, Momo leaps forward with the absolute confidence of someone that knows they're going to be caught - and of course she is, by Mahakali, who rushes over to save her from a pair of broken ankles. Scooping her out of the air, he sets her down and then prepares to shield her just as Bones starts making a bunch of hand signals, and then HOLY poo poo. "HOLY poo poo!" Momo immediately states aloud to no one in particular. Wait, isn't Bones supposed to be a class clown like her? And also... "That's a cool name for a move!" It's true!

Since he's got the roof, that leaves a Nazi, some civilians, and a spazzy roboto. One that dissed her jokes and then decided to just stand around being all software updates right when things get difficult. No idea whatsoever who she is, but Momo's kinda feeling bad about how everything's gone down and she's going to take it out on someone else. "Jesus Christ, are you in Safe Mode or something Miss Roboto?!" She makes giant waving motions with her hand at the girl. "Tron Lass! Get it together and get people out of here!"

Spending a point of Team on Simulacrum's roll, raising it to a 7.

And with that taken care of, there's just a big dumb Nazi Croc that's in SORE need of a lesson or two in not being a terrible dick. Seriously, a Nazi? And he's trying to get away? It's hosed up - he should at least have the decency to shoot himself after what he's done, at least in Momo's opinion. Chasing after him on foot with Mahakali trailing right behind her, it doesn't seem she's going to be able to catch up to him. It's a total shame she doesn't have any powers but Mahakali...

Except she actually totally does! Gotta give the training exercises she's been put through at the Citadel credit for something, she's finally realized something big: Mahakali's not the only shadow she can control. It's weird and squirmy and she's not used to it yet, but basically ALL shadows are at her command. She hasn't shown that off yet but now seems like a pretty good time, this jerk's getting away! "Yo dude check your shoes!" She calls as she races after him, but it's mostly so he can see what's going to happen. You see, suddenly Nazi Croc's own shadow reaches out to grasp his actual legs - and wow down he goes all of a sudden, faceplanting right into a fountain near the edge of the mall, and Momo can't stop laughing about it.

She looked dour at the boy and and then to the roof as everything seemed to be falling apart. "Yes, look at uniform. You don colors of hate, death and ignorance, then ask why we fight." She shakes her head and braces as she is struck by rubble and holds it with both hands, it starts reforming along with other rubble creating archways and walkways toward the exits and securing the exits. "Get out. Just go." She says as she stabs both hands into the ground and enforces the walkways so that the falling debris would allow a safe exit. The granite pathways allow the citizens to flow out of the mall, and though the roof is collapsing falling glass wouldn't cut them and rubble would add to the walkways roof.

"I have to go help more." She says sourly as she walks away from the boy looking to places to reinforce so that everyone could get out.

Bones: Your efforts, combined with the glowing girl and Obsidian, halt the structure of the roof from collapsing. The weight, unfortunately, starts to overwhelm you - you can't do this much longer. Most of the civilians are out, though, and the last ones are being ushered by the glowing girl. You do, however, notice one goon straggling behind - Obsidian just said something to him, and he throws down his gun and bolts to the exit. What do you do?

Max: As you watch your fellow heroes and the glowing girl rescue civilians, you can't make out much. You do, however, witness a large concrete shard fall from the ceiling and injure a young woman - if only you'd been helping! You're the closest to her. What do you do?

Mark the condition Guilty.

Obsidian: The last of the civilians are secured, thanks to your tunnels - but something else is coming. Sirens. Uh oh. You look at the damage done to the mall, damage you caused. Who arrives with the police that scares you? What do you do?

Simulacrum: You usher the last of the civvies out and turn back to the mall. Sirens sound in the background - authorities are close. However, you notice that in the back of the mall, the hero known as Shadowboxer is engaging with Nazi Croc. You see an opportunity to help. What is it, and what do you do?

Momo: Your shadow trick does its job - Croc falls face first into the fountain and cracks his head on the ceramic. He lies still for a second, then shakes his head and rises slowly. He looks at you with venom, then rushes forward towards you, almost unthinkably fast. In one fluid movement, he smashes his claw into you, sending you flying. You smash into a wall, dazed. What do you do? Do you still want to stop him from escaping?

Take a powerful blow

Everyone: Croc lets out a loud roar as Momo gets thrown. "Stupid heroes! You can't defeat me! You can't stop me! And no... you don't want to." He pulls something out of his vest - a remote trigger! He thumbs open the safety... and holds his thumb over the button. "Now... you'll let me leave - or we all find out what this thing actually does!" What do you do?

Momo's still laughing as Nazi Croc stands back up, delighted in how tilted she's got him. Now she's just got to bring Mahakali up to punch his lights out while she holds his arms behind his back with his own shadow, dodge some falling rocks, and she's got this! This hero thing's totally easy, and the grin on her face is saying that she knows she's got this in the bag - until all of a sudden it's saying hey wait where'd he go?

The answer's right in front of her, faster than she could see, and all of a sudden a Momo's taking a backhand from a super strong and super pissed off fascist reptile. This is right around the time she'd want to remind everyone that she doesn't have any physical powers, but all that she manages is an "Urk-" as the wind's knocked out of her, and she's sent FLYING in a profoundly unfriendly way! While it really would've been pretty great if her Shadow Guardian had managed to get to her in time, the kinetic force involved with the hit to her chest is just too much for Mahakali to manage it.

As Momo slams into a pillar, it's hard to tell what's the most troublesome sign of how she's doing now: her probable multiple cracked ribs, the damaged stonework behind her showing the might of the impact, the small trail of blood from where she hit to where she's slumped down on the floor, that she's clearly not getting back up, the rocks falling around her unconscious body, or that Mahakali vanishes into the shadows almost immediately. Whichever it is, it's light's out for Momo.

Bones started to scream, it was a building primal howl of rage! He shifted his grip on the roof and left the giant arms behind as he dashed out. A spine whip grappling jump to get him onto the first floor. He let the momentum carry him into a powerslide! Skidding along the waxed floors as his heels raised sparks! Then he was up, and sprinting. The door stood between him and her. gently caress that.

Bones hit the door like a tornado. Sound and fury ripping it from his hinges and shattering it into splinters as he hurtled through! He didn't have time for corners, the building was coming down anyway. He burst through the first wall like a man possessed! The second too! There she was! Momo! Oh god, she wasn't moving! Bones skidded to a halt between Momo and Croc. That same red light in his eye. Daring the lizard to come closer, and see what Max would do. This time, he wouldn't stop. He'd tear Croc's head off.

He lowered himself to Momo's side, oh god, she looked bad. He didn't have a choice. The building was coming down. This went against every bit of medical advice his mother had ever given him. But he picked her up, cradling her in his arms. She was so soft! So warm! It hurt so much to see her like this! But Bones knew what he had to do.

"Hold on tight. It's going to get bumpy." He whispered, brushing a loose strand of hair out of her face. Max lifted her as gentily as he could. Then?

Then he started to run. More arms sprouting from his back. A hurricane of punches and claws at anything in his way. He knew she'd never make it out of the front door. There wasn't enough time to cover the distance. So Bones went up. The skylights! Far closer! Let worry about falling rocks! He threw five lashes, hooking himself to the cealing, and threw himself upwards like a bullet. Sheilding Momo from the impact. He felt his sholder blade shatter, but it didn't matter. He had a few moments of free flying as he sailed through the air towards the parking lot where everyone was gathering! The sun gleaming of of his exposed bone. The clothes he had been wearing were shredded, the glass and concrete had seen to that. But it almost didn't matter. Max held onto Momo tightly as the ground outside rushed up to meet him. He took the landing hard, he felt his knee pop! But still he took it. Bones howled, partly because oh god that hurt! And partly because he was worried to death about his passenger. He laid her down and huredly started to check her over, try and work out where the blood was coming from.

"Hah- ah- ah... Momo! Come on girl, say something! Make a joke! Please! Momo? Momo!!"

Too much shouting. Too much screaming. Too much sheetrock cracking like peanut brittle. There's dust and smoke and a ruptured sprinkler line has turned a section of lighting into a water feature. It's deafening and overwhelming

And while he's trying to focus through a sea of noise, as people and classmates and goons are running willy-nilly, the only thing that registers is a hunk of masonry that calves from the ceiling with the sound of someone walking on rotting ice.

It doesn't happen in slow motion. poo poo! It doesn't happen in an instant. Shoot! It happens while he watches, hands halfway to those stupid, pointy ears, caught out pretending to be something people have hoped he could be for

A sob cuts through the noise like a knife, as the lump strikes an unsuspecting woman in the shoulder. She follows it to the ground.

Stupidstupidstupid Max snaps out of her daze and dashes to the woman's side, skidding the last few feet on her knees. The poor woman is unconscious, or worse, unresponsive as Max tries to rouse her with gentle prods and whispered apologies. There's only one thing to do, with the rest of the group scattered and actually doing things.

Eyes watering from all of the dust in the air (of course), Max puts all her strength into lifting the stricken woman up and out of the crumbling building through one of Obsidian's tunnels.

She walked away from the young kid on the floor who was thunderstruck by the suddenness of her movements, and started to move toward the Nazi again. Obsidian had heard this sound before, it was in the war machines that had been used before the war. How the police got it she had no idea, but she knew that it was trouble. She remembered the horror of seeing them stomp down the street, the hydraulics straining as it moved slowly surveying everything in its wake with uncaring lights.

The police saw the strange effects of all of them and used army surplus, little did they know that this was going to trigger such a strong reaction from the woman of magma. As she slowly comes to, there's a part of Momo that's appreciative she's waking up at all - but it's immediately shouted down by the rest of her that's suddenly noticing just how much her everything hurts. Seriously, eight or so on the pain scale about now, but at least she's a bit numb. Usually she'd be aware enough to know that's probably actually a bad thing, but right now she'll take what she can get, since after all she's also managed to pick up at least a couple broken ribs and a serious concussion.

Next she realizes she's being carried, and that either she's outside or there's enough of the mall missing as for it to not really count as a structure anymore. Hopefully not by Nazi Croc! Ughhh, she already lost her fight from what she remembers, and that's bad enough - but if she actually got captured or something, there goes her reputation at the Citadel as kind of a badass for basically forever! Still better than being dead, but not by much.

Hearing a familiar voice though, and recognizing that it's coming from whoever's got her, the still woozy Momo is eventually able to place who it is, and what he's saying, and her eyes weakly flutter open, looking up at her skeletal teammate and current savior. He wants a joke, right? To prove she's OK? She's not, but it's either laugh or cry right now to distract from her pain, and Momo's always been big on the laughter option. "Ah... oh no..." Her voice is weak, but she presses on. "Suddenly, grim reaper!" A grim reaper that always laughs at her jokes and that's carrying her to safety instead of the afterlife.

It's hard to keep her eyes open, and her vision's definitely on the fuzzy side after that hit to the head, but she's doing her best to watch his face skull in case he laughs. It'll make her feel better to see it... and besides, he's just saved her - he's earned her best attempt at humor, given the circumstances.

Soooo guilty

Left foot. Right foot. Careful of the unconscious woman's feet. Max wasn't gifted with super strength, but adrenaline and grim determination will make up for it for a little while. The tunnel Obsidian melted through is an enormous help too, though the result looks like something from a War of the Worlds remake. She tries not to look at a rank of mannequins that were too close to the borehole.

Outside... Max wasn't sure whether to expect cops, the Army, or... he dunnos, but a giant goddamn robot wasn't one of them. The thing looks like they drafted a combine harvester and put it through boot, and gave it extra situps every time it couldn't climb a grade. There's something vaguely Russian about the monstrosity, the pride of some farming collective. A quiet bell rings, reminding him of movie night, and watching some corny old flick about a cyborg cop and a killer robot that looked like it was made out of a studio microphone.

"Don't shoot!" Max blurts, coming out into the sunlight. "She needs help! Please!"

Pru's only been on the job a year now, but that's longer than a lot of first responders last, and it's long enough to have seen all kinds of weird and terrible things. It may not be the kind of thing that makes somebody a Sherlockian judge of character, but you get to know the flavors of fear and anxiety that pervade an accident site, and that slip done up like Peter Pan looks like she's more likely to fold up any minute than do something especially stupid.

"We have to go now!" Obsidian says to Bones looking panicked, "They use in the war, it is dangerous. We need to go now, it is bad, it is very bad." She looked anxiously at the other side of the building starting to run toward the exit. There wasn't time to explain this was bad, the thing was coming for them and it was going to classify them as hostiles. Then it will attack them, it was designed to destroy and kill and leave no one behind. She had no way of reaching them other to stop them, in some way shape or form. "Max, don't! It is not safe, we need to get out of here before it sees us as unnatural."

Obsidian jumped across the room toward Max and hit them with her body, trying to knock the out of the way of the giant robot that was starting to analyzing them. "No no, you don't understand, it won't care, it never cares." She said trying to shield Max from the big machine before it starts to open fire of its uranium tipped bullets. A red light came on the eye slot for the giant robot and it started to move forward again toward them, it said something in Russian. Obsidian seemed to panick even more and grab Max like they were nothing and start to move them away from the civilian.

"Oh no. Oh no. Oh no." She mumbled as she moved dragging Max away from the death machine.

Team: 2 - Influence - Citadel Development

Max: Your approach to the police clearly has them on edge, but the captain in charge throws his hand up once he sees you carrying a civilian. Indeed, as you get closer, one responder dashes forward bravely, taking the woman off your hands and giving you a small "Thanks," clearly wary of you but willing to accept the help, at least for now. Of course, that doesn't stop Obsidian from dashing in, grabbing you, and dashing back out. An uncomfortable moment passes as the lava girl hauls you towards where Momo and Bones are. What do you say to Obsidian about this rough treatment?

Obsidian: The robot's hostile actions are interpreted, at least by you, as ominous violence - and of course you act accordingly, grabbing Max roughly and bolting away. You arrive shortly among Momo and Bones, who look up at the two of you in shock. What do you say to try to explain your actions?

Momo: Despite lacking facial features, you read Bones like a book. He... he likes you?! How do you feel about that? What do you tell him? And how do you respond when to Obsidian's ominous warnings of the police bot, and her sudden arrival with Max in tow?

Bones: Well, your team is finally all back together, more or less in one piece, though something tells you that Momo has uncovered something about you that you didn't mean to give away. What do you say to everyone to refocus them on what matters? And... what matters the most right now - getting out safely, or making sure the bad guys are taken care of? And whatever happened to that glowing girl?

Simulacrum: Back inside the mall, you deliver the final blow to Nazi Croc. Your hard light shell envelops the reptile person, and you head towards the police to deliver the goods. Unfortunately, Obsidian's actions have put them fully on edge, and as you approach, they level their guns at you. Do you continue to approach? Or do you bolt? And what are you going to do about those other heroes? Do you want to join back up with them and maybe... talk?

Momo's first reaction to her new realization is that there's DEFINITELY a Boner joke to be made somehow. She'd make one, but as of a couple minutes ago she's calling in sick from comedy for a bit - at least until she's gotten to a hospital. Does anyone at the Citadel have healing powers? If so, anybody got teleport powers to get 'em here? Or anybody with drug powers? She's not picky right now.

Her second reaction though, less flippant, is... well... how would that work exactly? How do you kiss a skeleton? How do you, uh, you know? Isn't he dead? It's not that she doesn't like Bones or anything like that - far from it. He's got a great sense of humor (it's similar to hers after all), he's always been super friendly and supportive, he's definitely trying harder than she is at being a hero in a way that makes her feel vaguely proud of him, he just loving saved her life... but she's just never thought about him in that way before.

"Haha, nah I'm... totally fine." Momo weakly protests, sticking a slightly bloody tongue out at Bones. If she had more control over keeping her eyes open she'd have winked too, but alas. There's something about Obsidian picking a fight with the police, but she's not exactly in a position to do much of anything about it and she's got a whole host of painful distractions from her injuries, so yeah not really paying much attention to it. She's still thinking about what in the hell to say to Bones.

Turns out Obsidian and Max are actually here now, which she's only aware of after they both start talking way too loud - everything's too loud now actually, despite her feeling kinda numb and out of it it's still bothering her. "Where'd... Laser Girl go?" They saw her, right? She's not imagining that? She's definitely woozy enough to. "We should go to... the feel better place..." She manages, forgetting the word hospital and figuring that was as good a substitute as any.

Bones

Bones breaks eye contact with Momo. Feeling like he'd given more away then he meant to. He'd just have to deal with that later.

"What are you doing? Stop! If the police weren't thinking about attacking us, they're definitely considering it now!" He pinches the bridge of his nose hole.

"Right. I'm out of options. Momo needs a doctor. And given that the human light show is off doing... Something. I'm going to have to walk her over to them. So please stop giving them reason to shoot us." He says exasperated. It wasn't in his nature to talk down to people like this. But he hurt, he was scared, and he just wanted to stop.

Gingerly lifting Momo up, he starts to slowly walk towards the police lines, waving a bit of white cloth from another arm he added.

"Don't shoot! I have injured! We need an ambulance!"

"I'm not just going to drop her!" Max shouts in response to Obsidian, voice cracking up toward a higher octave. And if that big frigging robot is going to shoot her and hurt the civilian, then... y'know? Then this whole crazy future-world can just go screw.

Max locks eyes with the emergency crewmember who comes to take the injured woman away. "Tell her I said I'm--"

*VOOM* Obsidian roars through with perfect timing, grabbing Max and zooming off again, discovering that the elf is... rather light. Embarrassingly light. Twinkle-toes light. It probably helps with the jumping, and explains why he didn't leave footprints in the masonry dust.

"PUT ME DOWN!" the elf shrieks, though Obsidian is quick enough that he's already on her feet by the start of the third word. Mortified, Max's cheeks are ablaze, and the color is both climbing her ears and spreading down her throat. He stares at the lava girl, lips pursed in a thin gash, against a torrent of mean words that want to come out in a jumble. With them comes a vision of Obsidian in tears, and Welcome asking him why, and it all spirals around and down his throat, to sit in the pit of her stomach with that nugget of plutonium guilt.

That poor woman just felt so light.

"I... I know how to walk, all right?"

Scene 2 - Conclusion

Croc secured, and with clear injuries, Bones' approach to the police and cries for help are received more warmly than Simulacrum's takeover of the combat robot (which, as it turned out, was on standby and only was going to be used in cases of emergencies). The responders quickly arrange for medical care for the team, and Momo is taken to the hospital. The rest of you are soon met by Mandragon, who gathers you quickly and rushes you back to Citadel before too much more can be done. A few hours later, Momo arrives, a little worse for wear but more or less healed. Simulacrum, however, is nowhere to be seen.

End of scene moves, clear conditions if you took corresponding actions, then choose one:
- Grow closer to the team. Explain who made you feel welcome; give Influence to that character and clear a condition or mark potential.
- Grow into your own image of yourself. Explain how you see yourself and why; shift one Label up and another down.
- Grow away from the team. Explain why you feel detached. Take Influence over you away from another character.

In addition, Momo, clear HURT.

Citadel gains 1 Reputation.

Scene 3 - Back at Citadel
Team: 1 - Influence - Citadel Development - Quick Reference

A few days later, after all of you have gotten some rest and relaxation, Mandragon gathers you all to debrief on what happened.

Bones: Mandragon turns to you first. "So... reading the reports and resulting news coverage, people were actually pretty impressed with you. They call you 'Skelesavior,' at least, 'they' being trashy gossip rags around Central City. Still... could've gone a lot worse." He casts a glance sideways at Momo, "And... good job protecting the team and getting the authorities to trust you. For the meantime, I'm naming you this team's captain. Good work, Bones." How do you feel being named the captain? How do you feel about the public's reaction to you? Have you had the guts to talk to Momo yet about what happened on the battlefield? What do you want to say to her, but don't feel like you can just yet?

Momo: Mandragon moves on to you next. "How are you holding up, Molly? Rasputin's assessment is that you'll be ship shape in about a week," You unhappily recall Rasputin's robots' examination upon returning to Citadel. "Still up for this hero stuff?" How do you respond? How do you feel about being the one most injured? And what are you going to do about Bones - his feelings for you seem real. How do you feel with him being named team captain?

Obsidian: Turns out you were wrong about the bot... or were you? What makes you feel like you'll be seeing more of them around, as villains seem to be popping up more and more frequently. Mandragon, however, isn't impressed, "Obsidian - your hostile actions against the authorities almost put the team in danger. Whatever your experiences in the past were... things are different now. We can make them different. You don't have to be scared anymore. That said... good job keeping people safe." Do you accept Mandragon's Influence? If so, Danger -1, Savior +1. How do you feel about how things went down? Did you say anything to apologize to how you grabbed Max? How do you feel about Bones being named team leader?

Max: Things settled down alright, though it looks hairy for a while there. Mandragon turns to you, "Uh... good job to you as well, Max." You can clearly sense that Mandragon feels a bit guilty about not naming you leader, considering your past together. Still, it's hard not to acknowledge that Bones saved Momo quite well - and being named the team leader is probably pretty spot on. Still, how does that make you feel? Did you say anything to the team about how things went down? And... what mysterious package did you receive in the mail, hinting at bigger problems in the future?

--

Simulacrum: Hundreds of miles away, you're in Dr. Reyes' lab, awaiting his further orders. How do you feel about what happened? How did Dr. Reyes react? And... why do you feel a strange tingling sensation to go check on the team that you helped? What do you attribute it to? How do you respond to it?

Grow closer to the team. Explain who made you feel welcome (Bones); give Influence to that character and clear a condition or mark potential.

The last couple days have been a blur for Momo - thanks, bedrest and painkillers. Turns out hospitals basically hand those things out, especially when she showed up with three cracked ribs and a moderate concussion and a stated reason for admittance of 'super punched by a fascist reptile man.' Getting checked out by a superhero didn't hurt either, though she can't say the trip back to the Citadel was particularly pleasant. Even mildly drugged enough to not feel the pain from her injuries anymore, she couldn't help but fixate on being the only one that got hurt so bad - not one other person on the team got messed up at all. Just her. Talk about a real confidence booster...

So yeah, she's healed up over the past couple days by spending basically all of her time in bed, with a few short breaks to shower, eat, change, check her phone, and converse with the couple people that have stopped by her bedside. Mostly Bones. Actually, uh, everytime Bones, even in the middle of the night once. She gets it... he likes her, and yeah she's awesome and cute and all, but also she's still not sure about it. Like, he's incredibly devoted, and he literally saved her life, and he's smart and funny and yeah she has a thousand reasons to feel lovely about not crushing on him so hard it'd convert coal to diamonds, but it's just... he's made out of Bones! How does that even work?! What are they supposed to do when thi-, uhh, nevermind.

Oh poo poo, Mandragon's addressing her - she was totally zoned out and thinking about the last couple days. Snapping to attention, Momo vaguely recalls having just heard him say Bones is the leader of the team, which means she instantly interrupts the lesson to super publicly congratulate him. "Let's hear it for Skelesavior!" Behind her, Mahakali claps enthusiastically. Inside her pocket, her phone continues to receive weird text messages.

As for the questions he's asked her, she's got more than her fair share to say - and unlike when she was cheering for the new team leader, she doesn't sound super happy. Far from it in fact. "Isn't there something in my notes that says I'm Momo? I DON'T go by Molly, and I don't want anybody calling me Shadowboxer anymore either. My name's Momo." She stares Dragonman down for a moment, and it's probably surprising for him just how intense she is about this demand.

Now that that's settled! "And I'm fine - no thanks to Creepy Beard Teacher's even Creepier Robots." It's totally true, you really can't trust somebody that goes by the codename Rasputin. Like... that should be obvious. Since it seemingly isn't however, his incredibly invasive - and she swears perverted - robots did waaaay too long of a scan when she got back to the Citadel. Or maybe she dreamed all of that, it's hard to tell, thanks painkillers.

Grinning at everybody here, she has to show she actually belongs. "Still wanna be a hero? Of course! I'm ready to go right this second, I don't need a week." She totally needs a week. "By the way... do we get extra credit for beating up a villain during what was supposed to be a training excercise? Because we totally should." Mahakali high-fives her after she's done talking, hoping to reinforce her argument.

Bones paced back and forth. Momo was getting back today. He'd visited whenever he could. Hell, they'd had to get six heroes to hold him down when they told him he'd have to go whenever visiting hours were open. Didn't they get it?! She nearly DIED! This wasn't about the fact he fancied the poo poo out of her. This was someone who he felt responsible for! She'd tried to bite off more then she could chew and got hurt in the process! Meanwhile he'd been trying to cover up for his own gently caress up and nearly bringing the mall down faster because of the walls he'd broken! If he'd been thinking properly he'd have been there! He could have protected her!

Even now, a week later, it still twisted his stomach. Okay, he'd overstayed on a few occasions. Even nodding off while sitting in the chair. Not that anyone could tell the difference. He didn't think he snored at least. No nasal passages. He wanted to make sure she knew that the team was thinking about her. That we were all thinking of her!

The'd talked. About all kinds of things. He'd been trying to avoid it. But Momo was clearly feeling bad about what had happened. And Bones... well he'd done what he could. Okay, she'd made a stupid decision rushing him on her own like that. Momo was a fast talker, and the funniest girl he knew, but her smarts could only take her so far in a fist fight. But, he was humbled by her guts. She was a risk taker, and she'd taken the consequences for it. But she'd been so bloody brave!

It wasn't his fault that he was a creepy skeleton man! Besides, he'd done his best to disguise it! Wasn't his fault that he'd gotten lost and freaked out that entire wing of old people! All he'd wanted was directions! Sometimes he forgot he wasn't normal looking.

Well, he'd been working on that.

Stopping in front of the mirror again, he reached out into the air. Reaching past it, past this world, to the other side. The side where he belonged. The side where he still looked like he did. The 'real' him. Spirit-side.

Bones was a necromancer. It had taken him a few days to work it out. The sensations he'd felt. It was the Loa. He'd had to talk to a few of the practitioners around the campus to get an idea of what was going on. But he'd inherited both his fathers good looks and his magic.

yay

Bones had been working on crafting himself a body from the etherial. Ectoplasm made for a decent enough substance. Like clay, and could become as hard as rock if he wanted it too. His first few attempts had been disasters! But He'd started to get the hang of it. Just the right handsigns, a little whistle. And Bones shivered as the space where his flesh used to be was filled with ghost goop. It was cold at first. Then it faded, almost feeling right, somehow. He'd even managed to make it... somewhat anatomically correct. To the point that he'd taken to waring at least some pants while constructing. It certainly seemed to work like his old flesh. He could feel sensation through it. It was just... a lot heavier then he remembered it being. With the right commands he could even colour it!

Today, for the first time since all of this happened, he was looking at his own face in the mirror.

Creepy.

10 minutes till her transport arrived. Bones let the goop return from whence it came. The ghosts around him tittered. That was the other thing. He'd worked out how to perceive those on the other side. This necromancy business was complicated. But he was starting to get the hang of it.

- - -

"What do you mean, I'm the leader?" Bones said. His blank eye sockets betrayed no emotion. But his hands? Well, totally different story. Crap. I've got to take responsibility for this gang of nut jobs? Well. No that wasn't fair. He was the nut job. He was the guy talking to ghosts, for gently caress sake. He was so busy worrying about what Mandragon said, he'd completely failed to listen to the rest of what he said. Momo started clapping and cheering. He shyly flashed her a thumbs up. She was still up for more? Well then. If she was going to be getting involved with those kinda fights, he was going to make drat well sure she was ready for it!

"Thanks guys.... I think. Also, Skelesavior is the worst god drat name I've ever heard. I mean, god, I'm more then just a bag of Bones! I've got to sort this out. Guys. I need help, I'm terrible with names!" He turns to his team. HIS team. Oh Jesus Christ.

"A-Anyway. Momo, i-its good to see you. Glad you're feeling better. We've got to get you back up to speed. uh, um, w-WOULD YOU LIKE SOME FOOD?" Smooth. He coughs. "I was going to ambush you with a cream pie. But it felt a little cheap. So, you're going to eat some actual bloody food, then we can get back to normal. Sound good?"
