 So what's this show about? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXNs5HEUspI The Shelby crime family in Birmingham just after World War I. The premise might initially sound a bit drab but the show is anything but. The first season follows Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) as he tries to grow their organisation. He comes into possession of stolen machine guns and the government sends it's toughest police captain (Jurrasic Park's Sam Neil) to Birmingham to get the guns back. They enter into a complex game of cat and mouse each trying to get the upper hand or at least survive until they can get back at the other. What makes the show so great? A great cast, well paced story, beautiful cinematography and excellent music. The setting is one of its strongest features in my opinion as it means a lot of plotholes in modern crime dramas are avoided or not an issue. Cillian Murphy absolutely steals the show and is incredible to watch and the second season has Tom Hardy chewing the scenery. Where can I watch it? The first two seasons are on Netflix in the UK and US and the third season's trailer dropped today and is due to begin airing on BBC on May 5th. It will air on BBC USA an US Netflix a few weeks after that. I gave up on Game of Thrones a season or two ago though I'm all caught up on the books. It just felt like misery porn where every good moment solely existed to hurt you more later. Blinders is certainly grim but it has a lot more hope and joy in it. What I am most curious about that didn't show up in the trailer much, unsurprisingly, is whether Thomas chose May or Grace. I think in the trailer he may have kissed a brunette. Glad to see Tom Hardy is back in the new season too.

I loved the hell out of the first two seasons of this show. The end of both seasons were amazing and I can't wait for some more of this. I don't see what the point of comparing it to GoT is though, they're both shows on tv I guess?

They are both gritty is about the height of their similarity though it's an interesting comparison in how one show is bleak and the other isn't despite their grim settings. Anyway I fell asleep in front of the fire earlier and woke up just as the teaser came on BBC and though I was in a post-nap stupor May is indeed in it. Also I wonder if this is the season Arthur will finally bite the dust.

It took me a while to get around to watching the first season, but this is, hands down, one of my absolute favorite shows. Can't wait for this to get going!

I think the main contrast between Peaky Blinders and the likes of GoT is that Peaky Blinders actually has some heart. Whatever it does to its characters, there's weight because it invests you in them. Also, the direction is much, much tighter and more intimate and emotionally charged, well, just charged in general. It's got energy. It's kind of pulpy in its broad strokes sometimes, but that's a strength more than a failing. Just good TV.

Now I know why people keep comparing this show to Game of Thrones! They both have Alexander Siddig as a supporting character. God drat this show is putting GoT to shame in that An excellent choice for this show.

Work has been absolutely hectic the past few weeks so I only just managed to squeeze in the season premiere. The opening scene was really surprising and it wasn't until that it was revealed he was marrying Grace that I realised I actually prefer May. I assume killing that Russian was a huge mistake and is what's going to lead to catastrophe this time

I just watched episode two and have the third episode lined up. My thoughts so far on the Russians and storyline; it definitely felt like the entire Grace plotline was too good to be true so I'm glad it ended early on in the season. I wish Tommy had chosen May though Grace made more narrative sense, I had really cooled on Grace though despite loving her in the first season. Since her return her character was definitely written very differently and I didn't like her nearly as much. The biggest hint that she was doomed for me was when the super hot Russian talked about loving Tommy. There was no way that flirtation wouldn't be a thing and Tommy wouldn't cheat. Christ alive I am such a sap for romantic subplots. Tatiana just seems so much more exciting than Bitch Grace from the second season and Homemaker Grace from this season. I really like the Russians plot and though it feels quite in media res I definitely get what's happening after the second episode. Tommy's fairweather friends really need to learn not to try and kill him after their business concludes With respect to accents can anyone verify if the Russian and Italian being spoken sounds natural? At the very least I am glad those characters are speaking to each other in Italian and Russian as opposed to speaking English with an accent. I didn't realise the priest was supposed to be Irish at first which isn't a great sign though. Cillian Murphy's diction was perfect when he spoke to the dog in Irish though which was to be expected.

Holy gently caress is this show good. Shelbys are the most ruthless family on TV, ever. EDIT: all the Shelby men have some serious PTSD. That includes Michael, he's as crazy as all of them. All the characters in this are wonderful, I'm having hard time picking my favorite. Arthur just pulling out a second gun and wiping out the bottles without missing a bullet and John joining in was maybe the most badass thing yet though. The way Paul Anderson plays Arthur has shades of Neil Maskell's Arby in Utopia in my opinion. There's so many small movements and ticks in everything Arthur does that really brings the character to life even when he's not speaking not to mention the character storylines are really great. The music this season has been really great as well particularly Soldier's Things when Tommy was playing with Charlie. Also does this season really only have four episodes? e: RE accents and stuff I think they have been casting Russians going by the credits. I decided to re-watch the first two seasons again before starting this one, for some reason i don't like it as much as the first time i watched it. I am not sure i can explain what i didn't like the second time, but it feels like the show becomes less about the Peaky Blinders, and more about Tommy's love life the further along you get. I absolutely love Tom Hardy's character, but i was struggling to care towards the end, and the first episode of this season didn't do anything for me either.

It stars Tom Hardy as the only actor onscreen and takes place almost entirely in a car, yet it's riveting and awesomely performed movie.

So for some reason, all of season 3 is now on US Netflix, despite the fact that episode 6 doesn't air for another week. I tried to look up the Leonard Cohen song that was in episode 5, and it turns out he wrote it specifically for this show. Just finished watching the end of season 3. Was going to ask what the thread thought because I was a little confused and had some mixed feelings about the last few scenes. Anyway it was really fun to watch still but I won't say poo poo about it just yet because I'm thinking the few people who post in this might not have seen it yet. I was a bit sad that they killed Grace. That story was pretty much done though once they basically got the happy ending. The priest is an all right villain I guess. Its a little weird that they made him such a loving antagonist though. The scene in I think in episode 4 with the fractured skull was terrifying though. I legit thought they were about to turn Tommy into a vegetable for a good 20 seconds.

Well as regards the ending big spoilers don't hover till its aired for you Did he deliberately get his family arrested, I mean there probably are consequences to blowing up trains with people and lots of military weapons but that part of it was never really spelled out and it felt like it was some big manipulation to put everyone on ice till he could figure out how to manage them. And then he was in league with the Duchess to rob her family all along? That I thought was kind of lovely, the all along part, because its important stuff that happens off camera and they didn't seem to drop us any hints at all. In fact they go the other direction and throw the audience off by Tommy only seeming to know details about the strongroom after he's seen it when she could have obviously just told him almost everything. I was a bit miffed that the priest walked with the child as well, like he absolutely said he was going to do that so maybe do more than fire people, maybe attach 2 of the seemingly endless collection of mooks to the child's rear end for a few days. So I was a little dissatisfied with that. The conversation with Tom Hardy and the tunnel was great though

The last episode really does turn on a dime so I wouldn't be mousing over these till you've seen it but maybe by Friday we can drop the black bars. I thought that as well at first and that they had committed major crimes the government would be super interested in publicly punishing people for that they know the Shelby's did because the government members told them to do it but then why didn't they arrest Tommy, they arrest all the women, even the ones who relatively had nothing to do with anything. Maybe he got the cops to let just him go but then there's stuff like why have all that money on the table when the cops arrive. They're obviously going to steal it the times being what they were. Maybe the 60 odd k is the payoff to leave him alone. Anyhow, maybe I'm being a total autist about the whole thing. I just had a big sorry you what now reaction to it

Ended up watching the three episodes i was behind while I was working tonight and holy hell they were intense and amazing. The Russian girl being totally insane was pretty great and I liked her scene as Grace a lot. I was thinking the finale was surprisingly bombshell free until right at the end when Tommy was just like "lol everyone's arrested". It definitely didn't read like he got them arrested because he had been threatened with being brought to task over his past crimes previously, to me it's definitely the Odd Fellows doing it. He knew ahead of time and didn't tell them because otherwise they'd scatter. My main take away from the finale is that Lizzy owns but is still no Mae and that Michael becoming Tommy is actually quiet sad.
