The anime's setting is a fictional Japanese city named Sugomori City. One day, Noriko Sonosaki tells her classmate Katsuhira Agata, "You have been selected to be a Kiznaiver." The Kizuna System, which allows Katsuhira to share his wounds, connects him to the classmates whose lives and personalities completely differ from his. The Kizuna System is an incomplete system for the implementation of world peace that connects people through wounds. All those who are connected to this system are called Kiznaivers. When one Kiznaiver is wounded, the system divides and transmits the wound among the other Kiznaivers. Sugomori City is built on reclaimed land, but as the years go by, the city's population is decreasing. The story is set in this town where Katsuhira and the others live.

I've yet to watch the third episode (just about to), but so far Okada's writing and Trigger's production have combined to be really entertaining to me and I hope they keep the premise interesting and the direction as lively as it's been.

I'm not sure what you're going for here. This is way different from Kill La Kill, it's 7 weirdos trying to get along instead of battle show. I'd agree that the animation style is basically the same though, which I'm really happy about because Kill La Kill looked awesome

And then Lucoluco, Inferno Cop, Working Girls, and Ninja Slayer are all short comedy things

I've been enjoying this alot, group of misfits come together is always fun to me.

Nope, original character design was by Shirow Miwa, who's mostly done work as a mangaka. Design adaptation is being done by Mai Yoneyama, who's done key animation on a whole bunch of stuff (including episode 1 of Tsuritama, coincidentally.)

tsuritama and CROWDS have the same art director, not character designer. anyway, there's not a connection between the shows' art as far as i saw, staff-wise

yeah but there's no point in conflating Trigger as a studio with their show's writing, because the writers are from outside the company.

hell, there's barely a point in giving reputation to a studio based on shows, because the industry is now way more about people being brought in for a series and then doing their own stuff afterwards

It does depend on the roles. I think Directors are still generally attached to their studios while writers, character designers and other roles are more mercenary. Quality of animation is still something that can be determined based on the studio too still, but the overall level is generally increasing.

I'm wondering whether she actually has power, or is just a figurehead. The whole city has this eerie, cultish vibe to it, from the intertwined-hands bridge to those freakish udder-and-scar-tissue mascot things. The whole thing feels like a committee trying to manufacture normal human interaction in people who don't necessarily need it that much, combined with a good bit of salvation-through-suffering religious fervour. Read this chapter, and spot the uncomfortable similarities. My bet is that she's a cult baby, a child of one of the city's senior figures who's been marinated in its ideology far more than ordinary(ish) schlubs like the Kiznaivers.

So was I the only one who noticed the rape joke in episode one? Was that just bad translation? Or does he actually say something along the lines of "I'm going to violate you"? Seems very out of place with the tone of the show.

I saw something on twitter about that line and apparently it was just a wordplay/pun thing that wasn't translated too well.
