Cavelcade posted:I've only heard great things about it. Can you give me a quick summary? If I remember the shitstorm correctly, the way B:I handled the Vox conflict in the latter half of the game was sharply at odds with the adversaries in the first half in a way that made a lot of people really uncomfortable. The Comstock loyalists in the first half were hostile, but not universally so (you had a lot of downtime and even a few people who tried to give you shelter amidst all the soldier-shooting), but as soon as Fitzroy gives the kill order in the Vox timeline, every single Vox instantly and permanently becomes hostile until the end of the game, all while they're cackling about stealing everyone's property and burning the rich in effigy. Then there's Fitzroy herself, a militant black civil-rights activist who, as soon as she gains power, literally smears blood over her face and prepares to cut a hitherto-unseen child's throat. It was astonishingly tone-deaf. edit: basically, Levine wasn't called out as racist so much as way too dedicated to moral equivocation - he was so married to that tedious "truth is in the middle" schtick that he tried to put actual, historical slavers and bigots on the same moral level as the people they were enslaving, and it made the ending acts of B:I feel really unpleasant and inauthentic. I never got more than an hour into the game but 'violent revolution by an oppressed people is remarkably bloody and awful' isn't exactly in the realm of fantasy.

Sakurazuka posted:I never got more than an hour into the game but 'violent revolution by an oppressed people is remarkably bloody and awful' isn't exactly in the realm of fantasy. Agreed, but it was the implementation and execution that rankled people. Like I said, the good guy/bad guy switch for the Vox is literally denoted by all of your crosshairs turning from green to red after a single line from their leader, as if all of the Vox are mind-linked by some evil socialist telepathy, and at one point the main characters literally state that they're just as bad as their oppressors, like the game is trying to make the pill easier to swallow. Bioshock Infinite purported to be tackling Big Social Issues from the start, so it got put under a harsh spotlight when it started to make pratfalls like this (and more so when it tried to sneak away from the conceit entirely for a lot of metaphysical alternate-dimension nonsense in the very end).

It was astonishingly tone-deaf. Sounds about right. Revolutions often become bloody fanatical shitshows. See: France. I didn't see that action as vindicating Comstock, merely that violence and extremism are poisonous no matter who wields them. I think since a lot of people think they politically are sympathetic to the Vox, they are disturbed that the "good guys" would turn so viciously bad, but of all the things in Infinite that it doesn't so right, I thought that part worked fairly well. Bioshock Infinite is a Dumb Game though.

Mass Effect Andromeda delayed to 2017, will be shown the week of E3quote:With Mass Effect™: Andromeda, our team at BioWare™ is exploring how far they can take this beloved franchise. Yes, we’re building the best of what we all love about Mass Effect – amazing stories, characters and fun third-person shooter combat – and bringing them along with us on the expedition to Andromeda. But we’re also excited to be introducing new features and ways you can enjoy a Mass Effect game.

And it dragged down BioShock 1 with it.

I said come in! posted:Street Fighter V is hands down one of the most unfinished games ever. I dunno, there's always that one game where nobody could get past the first level and the creator kept insisting the game was just really hard, up until someone went into the files and discovered that every level past the first was clearly a dummy file.
