God drat if that wasn't one of the best episode they've ever done. I was calling my TV a motherfucker when I realized they were giving us the Elias plot again and I totally fell for it and Elias was along for the ride. Hoooly poo poo I love this show. Also I didn't even realize I was doing it until after but I did a few weird little claps during that close up of Finch watching the burning car beside Elias. Full measures, no fuckin' around Finch. Then Reese tells Fusco? He's tellin' Fusco FINALLY? And if you're not already smiling ear to ear at this point what are you even watching?? But ahhh poo poo the bridge. The music. The Shaw This episode had everything.

I'm changing my vote to 'only the Machine dies/merges with Samaritan'.

I can't imagine the writers pulling away Shaw, Root or Fusco after what they went through last episode and I can't imagine this show killing Reese and Finch if there was the possibility it'd get renewed when it was filming.

My new tinfoil hat theory is the Machine doesn't give a gently caress about Samaritan. It is losing to it in simulations because it's running it's own thing: Transferring itself to Root through the cochlear implant. :getin: It's going to hack the planet a human, the last scene will be Root talking to the machine in her head without the implant. She'll be tortured by Samaritan before this though, so it'll kinda be up in the air wether they broke her brain or if the machine is really in there.

Also I assumed Fusco's introduction to the machine was going to be watching Reese go God Mode on all those guys who were outnumbering them. They kept playing up how outgunned they were. We better get God Mode Fusco by the finale.

It's pretty clear to me that Root faked her death to force Finch into action, rip Elias though. :(

But how would that work? Finch didn't know her exact status, and Fusco was looking over her and couldn't have contacted Finch, unless the machine told him and it got cut for time.

I hope you're right though, that was a heavy episode...

Yeah, she just got a paltry 3 seasons as a main character, outlived another main character, died in the fourth-to-last episode of the series, is probably still going to be in the rest of the episodes in computer form, and wasn't even the first person to die in that episode, but it's totally the same as the black guy dying first.

You just wasted ~10 seconds of your life trying to apply logic to a tumblr person and now you're a racist too because you mentioned a black guy. Wait till the crew hears about this!!

They changed that audio, it's in the premiere, it reads like this now:

”If you can hear this, you're alone.

The only thing left of us is the sound of my voice. I don't know if any of us made it. Did we win? Did we lose? I don't know. I'm not even sure what victory would even mean anymore.

But either way, it's over.

So let me tell you who we were. Let me tell you who you are...

and how we fought back.”

Probably when they dropped that teaser at comic-con they weren't sure it was gonna be Machine Root or not yet, but in the premiere it seems pretty sure.

Ahhh that's totally The Machine talking to it's baby eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

The baby is a litter of German Sheppard puppies with cochlear implants

Just seems weird. Samaritan could recruit or manipulate almost anyone from a much larger talent pool, including professionally trained soldiers, spies, Hague investigators, etc.
But hey, this ex-con house painter seems really smart and capable.

Eh. I trust the showrunners to make this make sense, so I'll just enjoy what's left of the ride.

I think it's going a step further though, going back through that house painters life to see that he got abused when he was younger, put into foster care, foster parents weren't great people, took advantage of the violence in his past to get him to do violent things for them, then hung him out to dry when he gets arrested for doing something he was ordered to. So Samaritan has this profile of a guy who desperately wants approval from some authority figure and will gladly commit violence for the person if he gets that, and this is their default behaviour because they are mentally broken. Samaritan just has all these different environmental factors it knows add up to make specific skill sets and it's finding people better suited to their jobs this way instead of simply stealing Blackwater's employee list and assuming they'll be loyal because they are soldiers.

Just some dumb website I found that had a list of last names.

Talas makes sense because TAL______S So first 3 letters are TAL and last 1 is S. Plus it fits on the tombstone.

Never knew bout the last letter being an S, yeah I guess that'd be it.

Could have used Chekov's semtex I suppose. I thought both the machine and Samaritan needed the sat, and it was a bit of a race.

Everyone should be emulating Game of Thrones when it comes to box sets.

The answer is always CBS

I don't understand why you would do this. What's the point? Yeah, it goes faster but...? Are you really that crunched for time? Are you gonna die and need to get through shows as fast as you can?

Eh, some people watch entire series while doing other things, missing half the content, then complain about plot holes. Some people watch it fast but actually pay attention. I watch everything in a sound isolated darkroom that hermetically seals and doesn't open until I've watched 12 back-to-back episodes bank-vault style. One time I accidentally started a 6 episode miniseries and was stuck in there for days until i found another series that complimented it thematically to make the full 12.
