yeah and I'm trying to figure out the elemental rules because they're weird. in most games a water enemy would be vulnerable to lightning, not the other way around.

Water shorts out electricity and fire..uh...vaporizes water? Don't try to rationalize it.

Well to be fair the Umi-Bozu is telegraphed pretty hard by the warding fires. For the Nue though, I got nothing.

Umi-Bozu is telegraphed with the fires, and you get small versions of him to experiment on. Personally they always seemed less like made of water to me and more like oil or goo, so the fire was sort of natural. Nue seems pretty straightforward - lightning/water being opposed is pretty common. Now some of the other bosses are just strange and you'll either figure out the weaknesses by accident or just check your pokedex after you've beaten them.

I can't make it to the end without running out of Elixirs, and the Revenants are a pain to deal with, not including the final fight. It's literally the only thing I have left to complete, DLC included, before I go for Way of the Strong. I didn't finish that one until I was into Way of the Demon. Either get good or get some stats/gear.

Possible bug: So I am at "the spirit stone slumbers" missions and (spoiler tags just in case for other new players like me) I opened all doors, talked to the girl and tried to open the door with two lanters but it didn't open as she did it later than me. It seems bugged because I cleared everything and that last door won't open and is drat frustrating, do I need to start over again?.

snoremac posted:why is a water boss weak against fire? Because they're opposing elements. The way elemental resists seem to work in this game, enemies are resistant to the one obvious element (w/e color they're glowing/strongly associated with) and then one related element. E.g. Nue is also highly resistant to Wind. I'm sure there's some Japanese folkloric/religious belief that justifies this (or maybe not, I dunno). Umi-Bozu is unique in that it's resistant to everything but Fire.

I googled it and it can happen, so it was bugged. Good thing is that I learned the layout really well but had to fight the dog from the first half again then just run for it to open the door wich worked perfectly. It's not a funny bug that fucks up the whole level and makes you run the thing again.

Yeah I only figured out Umi-Bozu's weakness by accident when I got exasperated by the low attack damage and tossed a fire bomb. My bad for not being clued in by the smaller ones being insta-killed by the torches. Geez I thought I'd be someway through the game now but just saw the main mission list and I'm only about 1/4th.

Use amrita memories to get resistance and weakness information on each boss you face.

Haha drat I spent like an hour fighting the Muneshige duel and then I learned the Onmyo that makes people regenerate Ki slower and then beat him on the first try

Muneshige is significantly more difficult than most bosses in the game. 4 difficulty levels later I still have to set up my character just for that one fight.

I just cheesed him around the rock at the left side of the arena waiting him with the Odachi's ground slam. Took 6 minutes but it was pretty safe. That boss felt pretty cheap sometimes so well, I can be an rear end in a top hat and do the Benny Hill dance around a rock

All I did was the middle stance spear poke whenever he came around and kept dodging backward. Pretty worth it though, Paired Raiken is probably the best spirit for that summoning talisman.

He's not so bad once you learn his tells and figure out how to dodge all his attacks. And I much prefer fights like his to the new duel in the latest DLC where a dude just dual wields infinite Living Weapons and spams AOE attacks the whole time.

snoremac posted:why is a water boss weak against fire? They're not literal, physical water and fire, they're spiritual concepts which you destroy by replacing with their antithesis. Where there is fire, there cannot be water. Where there is water, there cannot be fire. You're attacking an element with its natural spiritual enemy.

I didn't hate the poison missions in Nioh thanks to the poison being easy to turn off if you just go gently caress this I and charge around. They're still my least favourite and that wheel monk on the ramp bit can get hosed.

As much as I can't resist using the living weapon in boss fights I wish there was an incentive to not use it, like less Amrita. Icy halberd boss is my favourite so far. That lunge and stab in the second phase is hellish but once I got into the rhythm of avoiding it I found it easier than the first phase. I'm getting a bit tired of repeating enemy types. I wouldn't mind it if they didn't seem to level up alongside me and take roughly the same amount of attacks to defeat. The ogres and red demons are just boring at this point.

Do you ever spend a substantial amount of cash in this game? All I've done so far is replenish ammo between missions. The blacksmith never gains anything useful to buy or forge (beyond slightly better versions of weapons I already have). I'm thinking of just offering all my loot to the kodama for Amrita.

In NG+ and above the costs of soul matching sky rocket. Crafting is where you'll be sinking gold into later on.

You need a lot of cash later on, but you're better off trading poo poo early for amrita to unlock fun abilities. By the time you need money to soul match divine weapons you'll be swimming in it and you can sell late game drops for a fortune and use that to improve gear or craft.

Okay. It's a little odd that the game holds off on this stuff until late/NG+. I can't see myself playing NG+ unless it's radically different, since the base game is already much bigger than I assumed.
|
# ? Aug 17, 2017 13:56 |

It's more that the game allows you to cruise through NG picking up powerful weapons at a steady pace (which I appreciated), but you have to gently caress around in NG+ with upgrading divine weapon/armour +X to remain current. It's essentially opt in for NG if your heart is stuck on something, but it's a massive waste of money when you have levels and skills to invest amrita in. Craft poo poo you like though. I had fun crafting some sets in NG.

# ? Aug 17, 2017 14:10 |

NG+ is worth playing if you're looking for harder content and better loot, but doesn't bring anything particularly new to the table - enemies are more aggressive, dish out more damage and so on. Way of the Wise (fourth tier difficulty, basically) remixes enemy patterns and groupings which is great, but having it so late in the game was a mistake.

gently caress I stopped halfway through way of the demon. I should head back, remix missions sound great.
