Aren't some college professors actively changing their curriculum because they're afraid of the backlash from students whose views are challenged by it? Or was that just a whole lot of nothing and just "these drat millennials are too hypersensitive!" thing?

I'm trying to figure out what departments would even have a curriculum that would need "changing." The only one that immediately comes to mind is Sociology, and there's no way that's not dominated by liberal professors to begin with. And if your professor subscribes to the likes of functionalism then just lol.

It's all bullshit.

I had a mix of conservative and lefty professors, and were mostly unfazed by whatever a hard-right or left student said in class. They'd usually just nod and move on. I only ever had one professor who wanted somebody to shoot Obama. I dropped his class.

rudatron posted:You're missing the point, the response isn't that 'demeaning and bullying' doesn't happen. Such behavior happens within any group of people, it of course has to be retrained. The response to the letter is that these accusations are being used politically, to delegitimize leftists by other 'progressives'. To use an example that was in the original letter, The BLM women who rudely interrupted Sanders are being cast as the victims, yet the have no basis for these accusations of victimization other than 'people didn't want us there' - no poo poo they didn't want you there, they wanted to see Sanders, which you prevented. You're not the loving victim, you're self-centered assholes. Yet, to not automatically be deferred to, to not be treated with kid-gloves when they hosed up, the fact that they interpret this as 'abuse', is not only insulting to actual victims of abuse, it serves 0 practical purpose for improving organizational ability. It did nothing but weaken the movement. You're a key contributor to the progressive circular firing squad, and Exhibit Z in Why Socialism Will Never Ever Gain Any Traction In This Country. "minor inconveniences" jesus christ. The rest of the regular posters in this thread, do you agree with this guy? Signatories to that list - at least the voluntary ones, the authors got in trouble for putting names on there without permission - have been caught being racist, homophobic, and even harassing people they disagree with. At no point do they apologize for this behavior or even own up to it. They are pretending to a level of discourse and comportment that is immediately shoved out the airlock whenever they feel like it, and they are not leftists to begin with (liberals are rightly considered moderate right in just about every other country). That said, yes, it would be nice if the left would belittle less and build bridges more. So comments like this Spatula City posted:You're a key contributor to the progressive circular firing squad, and Exhibit Z in Why Socialism Will Never Ever Gain Any Traction In This Country. should be avoided, even if you think someone else is being a jerk. After all, you're just adding volleys to the circular firing squad. Let there be peace on the left, and let it begin wirh me! These oligarchs aren't gonna behead themselves you know.
