Considering picking all this up from Microcenter tomorrow. Their in-store price is somehow less than the lowest online prices, and they have everything in stock. I haven't had a PC since ~2010 and want to get back into gaming. Thoughts? BIG HEADLINE posted:That is a tremendous amount of money to spend for a socket that'll be dead in about two months, and even then, a lot of money to spend to not trade up to a 7700K just when game developers are going to have a greater incentive to write games (for consoles) that take advantage of more threads. Well that is disappointing. Should I wait for the new package? Not exactly in a hurry, it's just for recreation.

BIG HEADLINE posted:Intel's evidently planning on Coffee Lake being out in August (engineering samples benchmarks are already leaking out, which is a good sign), which means plan for late August/early-to-mid September. Rumor has it that the CL i5s this time around may be 4C/8T parts, and the six-cores might come in a 6C/6T i5 SKU and a 6C/12T i7 SKU. The base-model Sky-X is the 7800X which is also 6C/12T, and it retails for $389. I can't see them selling the 6C/12T Coffee Lake chip for the same, but they'll probably price it right at $349, using the logic that the 7800X is a more complex chip since it mates with the X299. Thanks for the advice. I'm justifying the high initial cost as a tax for being out of it for 7 years, and giving me an upgradable platform. So I think I'll stick with this and upgrade the CPU and mobo next year. So much money

My wire management is crap. Still haven't even installed windows yet. Getting stuck on "no device drivers found" so I'm recreating the install USB drive.

So my UPS is too small for my new build. Which is a little concerning, as my PSU is 750 watts, the UPS is 685 watts, and when playing Prey the load on the UPS shoots >100% within seconds and causes it to shut down. So I hope I don't also need a larger power supply...
