What the hell is going on with memory prices right now? I got 8 gigs of DDR3 1600 a year ago for 36.99 and right now the same product is 62.99?

My i5-4570 PC is getting a little long in the tooth. I'm planning on taking the 1070 out of it and dropping it in a new box.

Can I get a quick thumbs up/down on this parts list? Thinking of overclocking the 8600k, hence the Liquid CPU cooler - the case is listed as compatible with it, but I'm not 100% in love with that particular case if there's a better option around the $50-70 mark.

Didn't realize the 9th gen was that imminent. I'll hold off a few weeks.

Still DDR4/3200 with 9th gen if you're thinking about overclocking, right?

Also they have no moving parts so as long as they aren't shorting anything out you can stick them pretty much anywhere with anything.

If you have a monitor at 144hz and another at 60hz and an Nvidia gpu it will idle at 50% load.

I have a monitor at 144hz and another at 60hz and a 1070 and it does not do that.

Really? I wonder if it's a resolution thing, what res are they? Have you checked this with software?

1440p and 1080p. This is going off the GPU utilization in task manager.

The bug isn't that the card idles at 50% usage, it's that it idles at much higher clock speeds (and thus higher power usage/temperature) than it otherwise would. If you're running MSI Afterburner or a similar monitoring/control program, check the clock speed of your GPU on the desktop. Without the bug, it should be somewhere in the 100-150ish MHz range, with 400MHzish for the memory clock.

Mine's idling at 139 Mhz GPU, 405 Mhz Memory, and 34 degrees.

I pre-ordered a 9600k from Amazon, does anyone know when they typically ship? Should I expect it to go out 10/19 or sometime next week? The order screen is still saying they don't have an estimated ship date.

My 970 idles at 135 MHz when both are 60 Hz, 899 MHz when the primary is set to 144 Hz. However, it also idles at 899 MHz if I just use one monitor at 144 Hz, it isn't linked to dual monitor usage. Dropping it to 120 Hz drops idle to 135 MHz in both single and dual configurations.

Is it a gsync 144hz monitor?

This might be a crucial difference.

Hello! I'm trying to build a new gaming PC and not go over $2,000. Looking to run games at max settings, 1920x1080, and 120fps while also streaming video on a second monitor. I have no brand loyalties. Here's what I was thinking so far:

SSD - Samsung 970 EVO 500GB - $140
GPU - MSI GeForce GTX 1080 - $520
CPU - Intel Core i7-8700K - $370
Mobo - GIGABYTE Z370 AORUS Gaming 7 - $220
Memory - G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB - $140
Power - EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 Power Supply - $100

Which takes me to $1490. Then I would still need:

Case (~$100)
Windows 10 (What, like $50?)
Cooling for the CPU ($50)

For a total of ~$1740.

Already have the monitors and peripherals. Am I missing anything obvious? Anything I could change out for a minimal impact in performance? Is this overkill? Would be nice if it lasted 4-5 years. Any advice will be appreciated.

The 9th gen intel CPUs ship in two days, not sure if you want to get an 8th gen right now.

It's smoking fast.

Edit: Although apparently I should have my ram in slots 1 and 3 instead of 1 and 2... Dammit I just got everything plugged in.

I ended up going with a 9700k (already shipped!) instead of a 9900k. I don't feel like dealing with the heat issues and further delays.

I'm very happy with my 9700k. It's happily humming along at 5.1 ghz, which is where the easy tune overclock placed it.
