Zedsdeadbaby posted:So anyone else notice the gall the developers had making GBS threads on the CoD reveal trailer then showing off an even worse less revealing one? I didn't find that very impressive. they were making GBS threads on the graphics/textures though weren't they? dice can usually get away with that when ever they want

Reverse Centaur posted:I need some actual gameplay footage to know if I'm hyped or not. Just imagine doritos replaced by fleur de lis/iron crosses/nationally appropriate symbols over every soldiers head in the trailer, and muck up an unhealthy percentage of the screen real estate with a lovely UI and you might have an approximation of what Battlefield One The Fifth Battlefield looks like if there was such thing as a proper spectator/movie maker mode in the game. I don't know why DICE keeps trying to act confident as developers after being responsible for Battlefield 3 and 4. And Battlefront.

Reading more into the Deluxe version, the wording makes it seem like we won't be buying post-release maps this time around. Usually they'd have a "free" map for pre-orders, just this early access to a "map drop", which I imagine is just a hopefully free release. Hell, I don't even see anything for premium, which is something they usually push as soon as the announce games these days. Looks like cosmetics will be their after release money train. God I hope they don't charge for maps....

I'm really excited, but I expect that the armchair historians will splerg hate all over this one for all the inaccuracies they'll find. Which on one hand I get, it's always nice when you get proper and accurate representation in a work of fiction based on history. And DICE has certainly painted themselves in a corner with their visuals having a very "real" look to them in later years. But then on the other hand, if it's a game that actually dares to have some fun, and without any home-seeking missiles and javelins and what-have-you, I'm probably gonna let it slide.

I wonder how many factions they will have (lol it will be 2, Axis and Allies and the only thing "national" will be selectable skins) I hate how every AAA shooter now needs customization and huge weapon selection because it pretty much means no more factions and no more faction specific equipment ever, choose between German/French/British/American/Russian guns as whoever faction it doesn't matter. I just want some maps to have British vs Ottomans and some maps to be Russians vs Germans and some maps to be Americans vs Germans all with everyone using faction-specific weapons like the old days Granted we haven't gotten any real information about the game but my hype is tempered given

i think wwi could work well as a setting. my biggest complaint with battlefield 4 was that offense was just so strong. toning down individual capability could do wonders for game depth, though sheer adrenaline enjoyment could suffer as my perpetual motion machine strategy of old will be less successful. anyway, if you scale down individual capability you can open up interesting tactics like melee, you can have weapons that really play to specific ranges (instead of just close/far and close), you can have strong defenses that require special things like tanks or horseback flank attacks to break. i dunno, maybe i'm wrong as i often am, but i can see taking the pace down a few notches improving the gameplay significantly. i'm having flashbacks of bolt action madness from World at War.

I am kind of excited because WW1 hasn't really gotten much AAA treatment and I am curious to see what dice does with it. I can't remember the last time I looked forward to a CoD game, but WW1, well gently caress it, sign me up. Looking forward to difficult to drive tanks with like 6 people in them crawling around. That and zeppelins, ZEPPELINS.

Justin Tyme posted:I wonder how many factions they will have (lol it will be 2, Axis and Allies and the only thing "national" will be selectable skins) I dunno, might be super unfun fighting the French at that point. Sure, Germany had the MP18, but the French had automatic Winchester 1907s, RSC M1917 and BAR. There is a pretty real discrepancy in what each side could bring for firepower; while you can theoretically get any asymmetric match up to work, that doesn't make it fun for the individual.
