Desert Crisis was a badass mod, although it had a really bizarre name for a mod that was like a more intense version of The Specialists. I feel like HL was the last great mod game, with an insane selection of quality single player and multiplayer mods. Back in those days one moddable game could last you years with the constant stream of free, quality content.

Overwatch I got to try this weekend. It feels like TF2 without all the gay poo poo and more fun. So yeah its gonna be good. I actually liked it holy poo poo. It has a mech suit you can pilot and robots. So Thats pretty much what I'm doing mech suits and robots only.

Even the really lovely, half assed single player mods made for half life were fun to play. I remember playing this really terrible one that took place in some south america machu picchu place and it was made by some 14 year old who spoke a language I couldn't place so I had no idea what the story was about. It was fun to see the really bad map design and bad weapon models and the best part is the mod ended with a fatal error that would crash the game after you beat the last boss. I don't know why but it was fun despite it being terribly made

Half life 2 also had an insanely good mod scene and was probably the last great mod game IMO. stuff like MINERVA METASTASIS was insane to get as a free mod. Like you'd be charged $20 for it these days. Not to forget Garry's Mod which made Garry Newman a literal millionaire.

I blame stat tracking poo poo, like, BF1942 had a ton of mods and poo poo like total retardation, but then comes BF2 where you have an account with persistent stats and ranks that could take weeks to climb at the upper end to get a new gun, suddnely not even half as many mods as everyones too invested in MY KDR

When I first played the half life mod heart of evil and they hungry, they were legit creepy rear end games, that scared me real good. I had to rip the credits song from they hungry aND set it as my ring tone.

Science and industry owned.... I remember that for like 5 years their site said they were working on a source version did that ever come to fruition? Also I think it was a hl2 mod but there was a loving sweet one that had one team be security fighting against a lone player who was like a super monster. Playing as the monster you had like predator cloaking and special vision and your weapons were a knife and pipebombs. Forget what it was called but it owned
