I'LL GET YOU THIS YEAR! EVEN IF I SAID THIS LAST YEAR TOOOOOO
God I love the smell of salty succubi in the morning

New York, New York. The city of a hundred facets, the city state, the leading city for super-powered crime in the US of A. To some, the most important asset is its economic powerhouses, while to others it is the fact it faces the rest of Europe. But for the next few months, perhaps even centuries, there will be one more reason it will be important. As it has been many times before, yet again the actions in New York will reweave modern society. But where, pray tell, will the end begin?

The New York Academy of Art, known for it's vivid relation to their artist's work and high quality modern art , should by all accounts be nothing more than a civillian centre of culture - as with all things, this is about to change. In an ever changing world of poseurs, under-appreciated effort and overestimated artistic value, there is someone with a gift unique, as of right now, to the entire world. Our story begins with some designs around a hypothesis, and the first six heroes to encounter them.

::Manhattan, street unknown::
A series of dots and connections - at last, are aligned. Several hours upon days of calculation, redesignation and preparation, all for one goal. No casualties, no getting fired, and no one finds out the secret. At least, that is the plan - but as with all things, one can only rely on themselves. At the mark of 08h08, the tapestry of logic is woven to a standstill. With no further advances, the apartment owner looks at his work with regret. "I hope I chose the right people..."

::Above New York Airspace, authorized::
"So that's where they suspect it is?"
"Yes sir - orders?"
"Alright - you know the plan. I'll make sure to send a decoy along with you, but if this is what I think it is we need it. Understood?"
"Sir!"
The group reaches ground and enters a van moments later.

::Location unknown, lost in time and space::
At long last, the good doctor had found the source he was looking for, the pathway to restore one of the primal aspects of magic - only to find it bound. Around it, the bonds and scriptures placed around it could only mean one thing, if his manual predicitons were right.
"Oh no..."

Act 1: Can we play God, or only play pretend?
In which a spark of a dream sets a nation on fire
Scene 1: 8.08.2017

Doom dice: 2D8
Scene Disctinctions:
  • A sunny day in New York
  • Crowded commuter streets

Ferrus Manus, H.E.S and Viola

With the lecture moved outside, the crowd which gathered for Dr Milliman's lecture numbered over 200, gathering around for a new insight into the melding of practical with the artistic - more specifically, on melding robotics with the primarily aesthetic mediums. Brought to a silence by an assistant lecturer, Milliman's lecture begins as helicarriers fly overhead, out of sound but not out of mind.
From outside of the crowd, there are two more with potential who see into the crowd, finding something worthwhile - the first is a man between work, as free as the moon, who may see interest in the famous designer of H.E.S presenting a lecture. Perhaps there is more to learn from this?
The other spots someone else in the crowd - short black hair, suit trousers and tee shirt, the ill-fitting blazer - this is the one. This is the one she was sent to save. But why?

Gambit, Jubilee
"Thank you for interest in the Academy of Art's work." Spoke Miss Joint. "As I hope you're aware, we have a variety of talent just waiting to be noticed, as well as some established names amongst our alumini, such as Mr. Scott who has recently agreed to put on an exhibition on the south side - would you like to get refreshments before we begin? Or would you and your..." She pauses as she tries to remember what relation the two shared - Cassedy didn't remember the mention of another member of the group - assistant? Companion? Lover? Hanger on? The possibilities were endless - hopefully, he would fill the silence for her - it looked like the clouds were coming in out of eye-shot.

Taskmaster, Gwenpool
Fifteen minutes. Fifteen minutes and the only thing which had happened so far is a group of students went outside - and not even the contact amongst them. It was days like this where it paid to double check your equipment, and to double check your specifications with the contact - had something happened? Were they okay? The number was on Taskmasters phone and could easily be reached, but what if that compromised their cover? What cover even was there? Too many uncertainties. Even worse, a Pizza van just arrived and - is that Deadpool? No, it isn't. Wait, who are in that Black Van in the distance, and what's with the firearms?

For everyone:
Today is hot and dry, with no clouds and no forecast of rain. The headlines are indicating a rise in the mutant population, now a mere 20,000, but also are talking about the latest construction project Hell's kitchen. The Daily Bugle has reportedly been looking amongst the senior journalists in NY to find a dedicated superheroics reporter, but so far J.Jonah Jameson has said nothing.
In civillian news, New York now has the densest population of starbucks worldwide, and President Day is meeting with the Japanese government to discuss trade deals.

What do you do?

quote:

Gambit
Remy Etienne LeBeau (secret)

The X-Men had all shaken out and gone their separate ways, as far as he knew. Not that this was in any way unusual to Remy, or that he was unaware of how to handle his own business when the team wasn't around. If he was being honest, the situation had gotten much too... formal in the past couple of years. He needed an arrangement that was more loose; he needed time for his extracurriculars. Since everything went down last time with the Guatemalan God-Monster and his dad (at different times!) he'd been getting more and more into the underworld anyway, and he needed time to focus on that. The team being gone gave him the window he needed.

The Thieves' Guild wasn't a team, it was family. Having taken his father's place as Guildmaster meant he also essentially took his father's place as patriarch of the LeBeau family, as ill-suited as he was for it. But he was at least a LITTLE experienced with teaching, and shepherding some new Guild initiates through their first heist made him feel like he was doing more than just being really, really, ridiculously good at thievery for a while. When he saw how those recruits looked at him, with unabashed admiration, it was... unfamiliar. He was used to being on the fringe, like Danny DeVito, not the center of attention. Remy knew then he would need to take care of these kids.

It was technically frowned upon, but Remy decided to play the old Cich Shuffle by posing as an art buyer so he could case the joint for his kids. That morning, he was looking around the gallery at the New York Academy of Art, making careful notes of everything as he compiled in his head the plan his students would take that night (assuming he'd taught them properly).

"My niece and I," Remy supplied helpfully, smiling at Miss Joint as clapped Jubilee's shoulder with one hand, putting on his best approximation of pride, like if Henri's kid was here with him instead, "would like to see the art first, and then perhaps join other patrons for refreshments after. Wouldn't want to try and talk to the artists without having taken the time to look at their stuff, no?" Running into Jubilee was something of an unexpected twist (and bringing Jubilee along was unorthodox, not that unorthodox was out of his wheelhouse) but they both clearly had things they were interested in here, not that either of them had really explained anything to the other. He figured he'd talk to her about it later, in private.

He took his shoulder-patting hand and reached into his white suit jacket to retrieve his phone. He looked over the notes he'd put down -- nothing that he was actually casing, but exhibits near key security points all over the place. "In fact, I have a list of several I'm particularly interested in right here. Buuuuut... I'm also an extremely cool uncle who is willing to spend company time on his niece, so I'll let her choose our first exhibit."

I wanna be a saikyo HERO!

In the pizza truck, Gwen is sweating bullets. Not because she's nervous or anything, but it turns out wearing a bodysuit while sitting six inches from a pizza warmer is probably a good way to get heat stroke. "So. Well." She leans over the back of the seat, gasping for a moment. "I think it's time we parted ways, pizzas." She leans forward. "Shhhh. It's not me. It's you." Looking back out the window, she narrows an eye at the black panel van. Somehow. Despite having a mask on. It's just how these things work!

Others outside can see her just get out, costumed and armed in broad daylight, picking up a stack of pizzas. Balancing them on a palm over her shoulder, she walks directly towards the black van, reaching out to just knock on the back door. "Hello!", she says loudly, before knocking again. "Pizza for the secret operation!"

Steven? Steven?!
STEEEEEEVEEEEEEEN!

Viola is quickly running her optics over the people traveling into and out of the crowd. Somewhere, within this group of 228, is the person whose profile matches the image sent to her home address just two hours prior. No name, no background information, not even any forensic evidence she could use to backtrace the image any further than the type of device used to print the photo. An ultimately fruitless endeavor, as there wouldn't be enough time to track down and confront the subject. Not to mention such interference may compromise the target's safety.

[Scanning...Match not found. Scanning...Match not found. Scanning.........Possible match. Isolating...]

The preliminary scan showed a complete match, down to the same choice of outfit. Fascinating. Weaving through this crowd would be simple enough, especially now that that she has locked on to her target. The question is, however, how to approach the target. On the one hand, a mental scan of their surface thoughts could give information that would be of use for putting the patient at ease. On the other hand, if they were resistant to it or became aware of the act, it could scare them away or set them off. Considering there's too many known unknowns at work, the mundane approach will have to do. She approaches the individual and offers a friendly wave and gestures towards the empty seat by them.

"Good morning. Is this seat taken?"

"Today I will cause problems on purpose"
It was days like these that made the need to hide his mutation from others all the more uncomfortable.

It was baking today, and he was wearing long sleeves and gloves in the summertime, waiting for the lecture to begin. Though It could be worse, he could be in a rain-forest. It was his day off and this looked like something worth watching so he had parked himself on a nearby bench with a good view of the stage and just, relaxed.

Art and aethetics was never something he paid much attention to, if it works, it works, shiny sleek gadgetry is all well and good but function trumped form in his eyes. Now the H.E.S, that was a piece of tech he wished he could see for himself, fixing automobiles is all well and good for a day job, but when was the last time he had his hands in the guts of something really special, like an experimental spacecraft, or an advanced combat robot. He chafed at the desire to make something unique, but the circumstances of his current life forbade him from even cursory involvement.

Free like the moon indeed, no obstructions ahead but bound to orbit one singular point, bouncing little problems off of your surface but never changing your path. But sometimes you get hit with something big from out of nowhere and it makes a mark on your surface forever.

His hands started to twitch.

Milestone 1: Running From The Past
The past is a country that some people would prefer not to go, that they choose to keep locked away, and make sure it never sees the light of day no matter what. Milestone 2: "Always Ready To Learn."
When your overall list of potential powers is 'basically anything if I see it', you should never be in a position where you aren't learning something when you use it. And mastering something like this would unlock all kinds of doors in the future.
  • Gain 1xp when Organometallic Vitalium is used in a way that hasn't been used previously.
  • Gain 3xp when you use a copied power, in a way it's user hasn't thought of.
  • Gain 10xp when you defeat an important opponent using only their powers.

#acolyte GM of 2013

Dr. Jeffery Andrew Millman

Jeffery made his way to the stage, wiping some sweat from his brow. It wasn't because he was nervious; Dr. Millman has lectured before all kinds of groups in the past. The real reason is he dressed in a heavier suit since he originally had been led to believe the lecture was going to be inside, he hadn't dressed for giving his lecture outside. Next to him stood the H.E.S. He sorely wanted to be inside it right now, since the suit has built in temperature control designed to keep the suit a cool 72 degrees at all times.

Dr. Millman clips on the wireless mic and addresses the crowd. "Good morning everyone. today's lecture is about the cross between robotic and art. Now i will admit, when it comes to art I am a bit out of my depth. I know art I like when I see it, but I'll be damned if I can draw a stick figure to save my life." He pauses for the slight chuckle he knew the line would elicit, and then continues. "I can draw you a detailed engineering schematic, but not anything creative. So if you thought this lecture was going to be about how to design cool robots, I am sad to disappoint you. Instead, gentlemen and Ladies, this lecture is designed to get your creative juices flowing. Instead the question I want you to ask yourselves is, 'how can I use robotics in my art?'"

Finally unable to stand the heat any longer, Dr. Millman walks over to H.E.S., the rudimentary operating system detecting the suit's owner, causing it to slowly unfurl. "I am of course talking about the physical medium of art. For so long mankind has used the same materials, wood, stone, plaster, cement, to create impressive visual art. Busts are fine and all, statues are grandiose and solemn, but they are all stationary." Jeffery grabs hold of the H.E.S. and climbs inside, but hesitates to press the button that would make it close around him. "Now I am not entirely original, I will confess, there are some artisans who have been melding primitive robotics and art for generations. I am referring to the humble, if perhaps kitsch, Cuckoo Clock. They combine the art of the intricately carved wood with that of the mechanics of the clockwork gears."

Jeffery removes the wireless mic from his lapel, and then throws it at an attendant off stage. Finally he presses the button, and the H.E.S. quickly yet quietly seals itself around him. He speaks, his voice amplified by the speakers built into the H.E.S. He begins to walk around the stage, punctuating his sentences by stopping his pacing, "Imagine a hall full of Marble busts of all the presidents. But these marble busts are built upon a robotic shell, allowing the busts to animate themselves, smiling at passers-by. Or better yet, imagine a permanent outdoor art instillation in Central Park. Instead of a statue or some water fountain, it was some instillation built using pre-programmed drones, flying forever around in majestic circles. Picture a traditional statue of a public figure in a park that is able to shoo away any troublesome birds who land on it!"

Dr. Millman finally comes to a rest and faces the crowd, his featureless helmet staring through the crowd, "These of course are all just some boring ideas an egghead like myself was able to concoct. I imagine you artistic types could come up with much better ideas than me. There are places for engineering and art to intersect other than just some sleek looking sports car. I'm also not saying you all have to go out and get engineering degrees either. if engineers love one thing, it is solving problems. If you went to one and asked, 'how do I make this bird statue fly' they will relish the challenge. Now are there any questions?"

That's terrifying.

Okay, this is about to go tits-up to begin with - and then he notices the black van. One hand to phone, pull out, send text message by touch. where r u? - t Unknown number but the message should be innocuous enough, shouldn't risk the client. Hit send. Other hand shifts. Orange hologram forms around it - a webshooter. Useful tool, remember to thank Spider-man next time I face him. Swing across quietly, avoid notice. Find better perch to watch what's going on, prepare to intervene if necessary.

Wait.

That girl is going up to-

poo poo.

Taskmaster begins heading towards the van. If chaos erupts, he'll owe it to Wade to get whoever the girl is out of the way, won't he. And if she's somehow not tied to Wade, well - there's questions to be asked there, too.

Come with me if you want to not die.
"You always were a charmer." Jubilee teases Gambit. Running into him was unexpected. Him already being in the middle of something wasn't, though. As far as she knew, the only time he'd ever not been in the middle of some scheme was when he was asleep, busy dreaming one up. But it was good to see him again, and even getting wrapped up in a scheme she knew nothing about was, in its way, familiar.

"I've taken a strong interest in a work I saw credited to 'Prawo Jazdy'... but I can't find any trace of an artist by that name other than the original exhibit, which was destroyed when... oh, forget it. Anyway. The exhibit mentioned a work by someone else over here... I can't remember what it was though, maybe you do?" Jubilee puts on a sweet smile, hoping that she can charm Miss Joint enough to overlook the fact she kind of just admitted to being present when art got exploded.

Scene Disctinctions:

  • A sunny day in New York
  • Crowded commuter streets

Gambit and Jubilee:
"Ah, I see." Cassedy smiles, thankful for her cover not being blown. A buyer and family - not uncommon, but family does tend to effect what gets sold and what does not. The two seemed close, so it would be unlikely for them to separate - As neither of you are mind readers, you cannot trace her thoughts. She flicks her ashen hair out of her eyes and continues in her noticeably southern accent.
"As for 'Prawo Jazdy'... do you mean perhaps Mr. Poirot Jazzedee?" She enquires, the differences in pronunciation evident for all to hear. "I remember seeing his name listed for an exhibit a couple of blocks down, but since then he seems to have disappeared, and only one of his images is online... I heard he made recordings, though? If you'd like," she rummages around her satchel, before showing a bronzed tape "we could listen to some later. Perhaps we should start with the Ashes to Ashes exhibit, as it shares some similarities to Mr. Poirot's style?" She offers. The shadows seem to realign as the clouds seem to part.

Viola:
The man reacts to the voice more than the gesture, his eyes covered by hopeless black glasses. From glasses to scars there seems to be many of them - perhaps a man of war? He appears to be listening to something more - Dr Milliman? The sounds around him? You? After he listens, he attempts to smile in your general direction. He misses by a head's width.
"If you can see a seat, by all means." He indicates to the floor in general, accidentally hitting a college age liberal. He moves to angrily report his resent, but looking into the abyss which is the client's face, he simply moves back. From respect or fear, one can wonder.
If you'd like, you can use make roll in order to learn more about the person you were sent to help.

H.E.S.
The general reception of the crowd seems to be good, but students will be students. You notice five people join the crowd at various places, most notably a group of three at the back with briefcases handy. At the call for questions, a few people answer the call with a question of their own. In no particular order, the questions you receive are:
"Are there any particular robotics projects we should look at for inspiration?"
"Where could we find some low-level schematics to try and incorporate?"
"Are there any metals which take watercolour well?"
Receptive, it seems, but struggling to put 2 and B together.

Ferrus Manus
As the lecture goes on, your arm begins to soothe - seeing the crowd, there is the standard fare - people texting in the back rows, a couple listening to headphones, but mostly they seem to be pads out, pens ready. The range of note detail varies wildly - one , another has barely anything. One person has begun sketching what seems to be art based on the H.E.S. - it seems to be good, but you're at a distance.
As the floor opens to questions, will you ask one?

Gwenpool:
"Hold on, I'm not decent!" Comes a feminine Irish voice from inside the van. A couple of moments of arguing and banter occur before a man in a Biohazard suit comes out to take the pizza. "Thanks - I'm surprised they actually sent someone when I filled in the request forms. It's hard work nowadays, you know? HEY GUYS, WHAT DID YOU ORDER?!"
"I was just a Cheese Pizza." comes a voice within the van, soon to be followed by others.
"I got a Hawaiian and a can of coke."
"Did they bring my Haigh Club? They always forget my whiskey."
"You're our driver, why did you order whiskey?"
"Because I get nervous, alright?!"
"Yeah, but what about your pizza?"
"Hold on..." the front man pauses.
H-Hold on. Did we Order Pizza?: 3d8+1d8 15, effect D8 - there are a number of ways to solve the situation - either get straight to violence, try and con them, make the pizzas, something else? The floor is yours.

Taskmaster:
From your vantage point, you can see one of them begin to get out, as your phone vibrates. Exhibition suite 2b, 5 minutes. Reassigned last minute, t-ing. -J - this will most likely mean you'll have to enter the exhibit yourself, unless you're willing to wait for them to finish. Perhaps the newbie's situation is more desperate, but - wait, it's working? Are they part of the same group? They don't look it, but it's not unheard of for masks to join in on hits, but even so, you can't be sure either way. The question remains - what can you do in five minutes?

Everyone besides Gwenpool and Taskmaster:
Could I get a perception roll related to people from everyone besides Taskmaster and Gwenpool? It'll be a solo roll plus anything else you have which relates to senses and/or digital tracking systems. Since it's a person, any psychic connections also work. I'll be using Orokos for rolls - please include MHR Civil War II as the campaign for ease of tracking. If you have one roll in your personal responses and one roll for everyone, you can almost always do both without penalty.

What do you do?

"Down the street?" Remy asked. "It would be a shame to leave so early, no? Still got a job to, so I'm going to mix a bit of business into my pleasure." He winked at the two of them and looked behind him to a painting... or rather, to the place the painting was in. He made a show of examining it from all angles before asking. "Excuse me, is there a shade that goes over the skylight? I'd like to see what it looks like in other lighting."

I'm going to use my D10 Crime Master since you mentioned digital tracking systems and I'm here to case the place, so my pool is D6 buddy, D8 World's Greatest Thief, D10 Crime Master. Roll is a 13 with a d8 effect

Dell decides against asking any questions right now because something was still bothering him. But he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

Maybe he was just tired but Dell couldn't shake the feeling no matter how hard he tried. And years of honed paranoia had told him never to dismiss a gut feeling out of hand, it might just save your life.

He looked over the crowd again, trying to find something that didn't seem to fit. Something that he saw but didn't notice, that his brain was pushing his buttons on.

Okay, she's...got this handled enough. This cannot possibly be working. More proof that she's tied to Deadpool somehow. Taskmaster shakes his head, pulling a tracking bug out of a pocket and tossing it down at Gwenpool. Listen in on her and track locaton, and he'll be able to step in when she inevitably gets out of her depth. Ideally she'll have that insane healing factor and he won't have to worry.

I don't really think I need to roll this, but if I do...
Solo d10, Covert Master d10, Enhanced Reflexes d8 to toss the bug.
17 and a d10 effect die to create a d10 Asset: Tracking The Crazy Girl.

Nodding to himself, he turns to get down to business. Have to get into the exhibition suite in 5 minutes. Chaos will be breaking out soon - that much is obvious. Five minutes - not enough time to get in by just mingling with the crowd slowly. Helicarriers overhead. Got to get inside fast, make way to suite, make entrance. Doable. He swings over to a new perch, the better to jump down into an alley. From there, his image inducer shifts him to a random civilian disguise - young man, generic #3. Decent for what he needs.

Which is crowd movement. Easy enough - watching any number of pickpockets and spies has given Taskmaster more than enough experience in that. Make way through crowd, enter building. Quickly head for exhibition hall, moving stealthily to avoid detection. Shouldn't be hard at this point - they're watching for trouble at the lecture and thieves there, not inside. Check lock, pick if needed, head inside to meet contact. Simple.

Dr. Jeffery Andrew Millman

As the questions start rolling in, as does Jeffery's eyes, thankfully covered by the suit. He tries to take the questions in turn. "Well as I said, I don't have an artistic bone in in my body, I guess I can't really speak as to where you should look for inspiration. Again, I'm not talking about applying art to robotics, I am talking about applying robotics to art. This isn't an audition to try and find someone to make the H.E.S. more flashy, this is for you to look at a 'robot' like H.E.S. and think, 'how could I use that in an art piece'? I suppose you could look to some of the Japanese robotic efforts to make a realistic looking robot, but instead of stretching rubbery skin over the robotic structure below, try applying some other substance?"

At the question about painting metal, Jeffery does perk up a bit, "Painting metal is rather difficult I am afraid. A watercolor on metal directly will do little good. What you're going to need is to put a good primer base coat down; I would recommend a good oil based paint. Once that primer is down, you should be able to apply whatever paint to the surface that you want."

Jeffery scans the crowd, looking for any other hands that might be up.

okay, this perception test. Pool is 1d10 solo, 1d8 I do my best work alone, and 1d8 tech expert for scanners in the H.E.S. or something.

Jubilee, I'll be using your oppurtunity to add 1d6 to the doom dice.
"Why would we.. Oh! Oh. Oh, that exhibit ended two years ago, so I doubt you'd find Mr Poirot's work there now." She clarifies, sheepishly. Looking at the painting the buyer mentions, she begins to unhook it from the wall, as the shadows seem to pass. Noticing the lighting is better, she returns the erudite surrealist painting to the wall. "Does this look better?"
[Spoiler for gambit]Those "Shadows" are definitely people, look kind of like SWAT. They're making a move for the first floor, it seems.
If the two of you are ready to head to the Ashes to Ashes Exhibition, Cassedy will gladly lead the way. otherwise, you are fine to head as you please.

Taskmaster
As you keep an eye on the young... Hero? Mercenary? Pizza girl?, You notice that somehow, it seems to be working. OR, it may not be a bluff after all, seeing as they are exchanging pizza - coinicdence? Planned? You're not sure.
After disguising, you find it easy enough to get into Exhibit 2B, which is open but currently empty. Labelled "Ashes to Ashes", the work can be described as topical experimental, re-arranging physical elements of various news topics in order to create landscapes and scenes from . The works are all oil paintings, rather than the collage such a concept implies, but now all there is left to do is wait.

Gwenpool
"Alright, I've got it here. Keep the change." The front man offers, giving two twenty dollar bills as he takes the pizzas. "So, what's with the getup? Boss trying to cash in on the super hero thing?" From the sound of things, the people in the van are set to go - from the reflection in the car mirror, you can see an Iron suit, but... is that the outfit of the old hero hornet?
"Oh as for the name, it kind of varies - if he's mad enough, we joke that's 'Assblasted Idea Mechanics', but normally it's 'Advanced'. Why, what did the order say?"

Viola
I'll PM you specifically what you know about this guy - it'll be your decision what to do with this knowledge.
Entranced within the unguarded mind, there's half wonder if extra power is being redirected from the human senses into the empathy drive - although between not only the intake from the person you're meant to save and the crowd around you, it feels like you're the emotional core for the entire lecture right now, even without the professor there.
The world outside passes you by for a brief moment, as if it was a dream.
One thought in particular seeps into your mind, pertaining to a mass robbery plan - and you awaken.

Ferrus Manus
As you desperately try and put together what is wrong, the only thing which catches your eyes is a couple arguing on a roof a couple of buildings over. The fencing is high (and if you have the brand right, sturdy) enough so that no one will fall off, but otherwise everything seems fine outside.

HES
The crowd seems to take to your answers well - specifically, several heads seem to perk at the mention of oil based paints. Maybe more art language might bring the crowd over? Speaking of crowds, you notice a few people in hoods join the back of the crowd with extraordinarily big bags. Poking out of one of them is what you recognize as an A.I.M brand firearm - but why? The suit? The people? Are they moving on or staying? Your actions could change a number of things.

To everyone:
The stealth roll result means Pretty much everyone but Ferrus Manus and Jubilee beat it, with a maximum result of 7 effect d6. On each of your location, it appears as if an A.I.M team is going to take action soon - the question is, what for? Combat will most likely begin from my next post, but nothing's guaranteed.

Dr. Jeffery Andrew Millman

Dr. Millman's jaw reflexively clenches as soon as he sees the gun sticking out of the bag in the crowd. Jeffery was all too familiar with A.I.M. They tried to recruit him in his youth, and he has had run ins with them before. He couldn't think of a group more at odds with his personal philosophy. Whereas Jeffery believes science should be used to better mankind and enrich everyone's lives; A.I.M. only saw science and technology as a means to conquer the world.

Were they here to take the H.E.S.? It would make sense; they always walk around in those ridiculous excuses of radiation suits; who knows what they would do if they got their hands on the materials built into the H.E.S. Granted, this wasn't totally unexpected. Jeffery rarely made public appearances like this in the H.E.S. due to the fact that it might bring danger to others. Well not this time.

Yellow hazzard lights all over the suit start flashing and a loud siren goes off as Dr. Millman presses a button in his suit. The sound washes off the crowd for a few seconds, and Dr. Millman addresses the crowd in his booming amplified voice, "I am terribly sorry about this folks! My suit appears to be picking up a faint radiation signal. it is probably nothing, but everyone should evacuate the area just as a precaution."

Hopefully whatever A.I.M. wanted to do was contingent on surprise, and they'll just go home. If not, at least the crowd would disperse for whatever was about to go down.

A deep stare trails off for several seconds as several actions que up at the speed of thought and are summarily processed in the order in which they were created. History, affiliations, family, recent actions, all until the process finds the single most immediately relevant and striking piece of information, snapping her out of the trance-like state. For all who watched at most she just seemed to stare intently at the target before realizing something. The expression changed to one of concern as she looked at him again and gently placed a hand by, but not on, him.

"...Please do not be alarmed. I know who you are, Mr. Fletcher, and I'm here to help you in any way possible. I believe either your grandson or an associate of his contacted me about four hours ago, requesting my presence here. Is there a role that I need filling?"

She could pull back the recording of the call, but the modulation, while trivial to undo, may not provide proper proof. It didn't matter, though. The business at hand was hearing their side of the story, why and how that has to happen, and whether they believe it's for the best that it happens. Viola puts a reassuring smile on her face.

As panic is called outside the academy, a green flare is shot up. most likely, there would be some form of team in the area in minutes.

V107-A, HES
Once decisions in the OOC have been clarified, I will writeup what happens on your end in the next post.

Gwenpool
Noticing the flare, the front man begins speaking in code to the group in the van. "We have a DNAN on site 3! I repeat, DNAN at site 3! Hornet, support group C!" At this, Hornet (whew, haven't seen that costume used in a while) flies off to the art center. Arming up, the group of AIM step out of the van, taking another look at the costumed pizza driver. "Thanks for the pizza, but things are about to get messy. I'd suggest going home before you get hurt, honestly - you're a good kid, got future." The men grab their arms and wait for you to act, be it leave or stay.

Jubilee, Gambit
Cassedy looks surprised for a second, but snaps into understanding. "I understand, follow me." She says, leading the group up to a private sector of the academy, labelled 2B. As another gentleman opens it she leads the group inside, barring it shut with everyone inside. Another gentlemen is inside whom miss Joint nods at, before offering a chair to the young cousin. "Give me a call if either of you need anything", she offers, before giving you space. Looking around, Jubilee can tell this art is indeed similar to that of Mr. Poirot, and just as weird.

Taskmaster
Within the five minutes, your contact arrives with two other people - luckily, there is enough room to conduct business with privacy. All that's left is to approach with the appropriate callsigns - an old method, but a classic. If only things went to plan...

Taskmaster, Gambit and Jubilee
As the two groups separate, a group of AIM troopers swing-line through the exhibit windows, with one of their members wearing a Yellow coloured suit, resembling the old Hornet suit Spider Man used to wear, but redesigned to fit AIM branding. "No one move" the woman states, raising her machine guns. The group moves to formation.

Ferrus Manus, in part
The attempt to find him has 12 effect d6 or 8 effect d8, which but due to the crowded streets I'll rule neither is enough to notice you.
The agents look around in confusion, waiting for the majority of the crowd to react. In this instance, it lets you slip away within the first wave unnoticed. It doesn't seem like one of them lit up the flare, though...

Taskmaster

Oh, good. Guests. Well, she clearly intended them to be here. Taskmaster smiles and gives the first codesign. "Excuse me, have you seen the Rembrandt?" Which isn't in the museum. He looks over the two with her...it'll take a moment to place if he knows them. They feel familiar. Sure, he never forgets anything, but that doesn't always mean recognizing a face - not when people change their looks so often. He's expecting a basic identifying return phrase, then down to business.

Or he was before AIM decided to drop in. They were supposed to stay outside and be useful cover.

The image inducer drops away as Taskmaster shifts into a readier fighting stance. "I'm working right now. You're loving kidding me, right, you couldn't cause problems outside?"

Hornet lady and assault troopers. Hornet is the larger threat, harder to deal with if he remembers that suit right, but the basic troops are more numerous. Hopefully, some of the trio here can fight. Well, there's always one way to handle groups - mess with them. He flexes his fingers.

"Question for you. Do you know how to use a machine gun?" And then he's moving. The acrobatics of Daredevil bring him closer, leaping up and flipping over the woman before she can bring her guns to bear. "Because close quarters like this really are a terrible idea. Bulky, you can't turn fast..." An orange shield forms on his right arm as he comes up quickly. Captain America's always good for handling groups. He makes sure to get between the Hornet and her goons. Protect the client, focus them on himself. Always be professional, even when trying to piss off the enemy with banter. "...and friendly fire, don't even get me started."

He hurls the shield, aiming to ricochet the thing off the back of the hornet's head, sending it to bounce around in the group of thugs. "What I'm trying to say is, Jesus, lady! Could you pick a stupider gun for an enclosed fight like this?"

Solo d10, Weapon d8, Area Attack: +3d6 to hit all the targets, keep four effect dice. Enhanced reflexes d8. Combat Master d10. And Top-Rank Mercenary d8, I'm good at handling this poo poo. I'll use Dangerous - I step down one of my d10s to d8, but step up any physical stress I cause.

That's a 16. Using 3 d8s and a d6 as my effect dice, 2 Opportunities for the GM. If that hits, each of those effect dice is stepped up for physical stress - so I'll go with aiming a d10 of it at the hornet, then two d10s and a d8 at the goons.

"I'm gonna go see what's up," he told Jubilee, feeling the reassuring weight of the collapsible staff secreted inside his sleeve drop into his hand. "If you feel like throwing up a distraction when I drop in, it would be much appreciated oui?" He opened and slipped out the door, quickly vaulting upwards from the floor to a handrail to the rafters above the gallery. One quick twirl of his wrist opened the staff as he watched the situation. He saw beneath him that the Taskmaster had gotten involved, which told him absolutely nothing of use. Taskmaster ran in more circles than he did, which was saying something.

He was clear of the crowd and no one had raised the alarm yet, good.

But now what? First he made the call to the authorities, an attack at the New York Academy of Art would get noticed soon enough but best that they know as soon as possible, so he made that call before he did anything else.

When that was done he made a second but equally important phonecall to a more private number.

"Mr. Cage? It's Dell, I'm going to have to reschedule your car maintenance, there's going to be an attack on art academy-"

And at this point, the upper windows were broken into by A.I.M operatives. The sound of tinkling glass and distant shouting could be heard over the phone.

"Okay correction, there is an attack right now at the art academy, I'll call you back."

And he just went out to get groceries today, now what is he supposed to do.

Waiting on H.E.S and Viola's last turn actions before continuing

Come with me if you want to not die.
Jubilee looks up startled by the shattering glass. "Oooh, is this a performance work?" She looks excited, turning in her chair to watch the unfolding action, hoping they don't recognize her and assume the ditzy niece is, in fact, a ditzy niece.

(I'm going to describe and roll this now, but she's actually going to break cover when Gambit drops back down, for reasons of it making a better comic panel.)

As Gambit drops back in, Jubilee flips out of the chair, landing on her feet and tossing sparkles in the intruders' faces to blind them!

(D10 Buddy + D8 Valley Girl + D8 Light Blast + D6 Blinding Flash + 3D6 Area Effect + d8 Acrobatics Expert: 1 opportunity, 14 total, d10,d8,d6,d6 effect dice, stepped up to d12,d10,d8,d8 by blinding flash. Jubilee is stupidly good at blinding people.)

disctinctions/doom pool to be included in second post

Taskmaster:
Assault troopers:
Reaction to Taskmaster: 3d6+2d8 21
10 effect d8, spend 1d6 to make 16d8 as final result. Equal score and dice means you succeed, knocking
out all team dice. Also, you get 1 oppurtunity. I'll use one of your oppurtunities to activate Gear
limitation
, and add the other as d6 to my doom pool.
AIM Hornet:
Taskmaster reaction: 1d6+2d8 20
14, spend 1d6 to add the extra 6 to effect, 20 negates the attack regardless of effect dice.

The manoeuvre is a mixture of good execution mixed with poor reliance - while the shield does bounce
off the Hornet's head, its impact shield activates preventing her from being damaged. She realizes her
mistake too late, however, as the angle reflects perfectly to take out the other three troopers, knocking them dead. Unfortunately, one of them gets off a rogue shot which disrupts your holo generators - disadvantaged, but not defeated.

Gambit
No reaction in this case - advantage established.

Interrupt
As the light begins to appear from Jubilee, the AIM Hornet tries to fly past, making a break for the
door. "Feckfeckfeck - I'm not lettin yer blast me with any laser beams!" She shouts as she flies
through the exhibit.
Gunning Run around Jubilee (Solo D8, AIM Ace D8 Combat Expert, D8
Flight, D8 Machine gun for gunning run)
: 5d8 31
16d8 effect.

Jubilee
As she continues to fly, she makes a desperate dive behind a depraved statue - if she can avoid this,
she can get out of here - someone set them up, but who could have-
Attempting to avoid being blinded (Solo, Aerial ace positive,
Flight)
: 3d8 16 13 effect d8 - almost! However, you have multiple effect dice - is
she eating a d12 or d6? As for the oppurtunity, I'll just pocket a d6 for the time being.

--meanwhile, elsewhere...--
Gwenpool:
"Ah sonuva-whoa!"
"I told you we shouldn't have-gently caress!"
"Well look, all we need to do is -" It didn't get done.

Shingeki no Kyohno! (attempting to avoid dying, affiliation + body
armour + combat)
: 3d6+2d8 18 - 2 oppurtunities. Also, 13 effect d6 which does
nothing, so two down on and one on his last legs. Also yes to the XP gain.

In response, the survivor, seeing his life may end right now, decides to take one last shot - and to
go out with a bang. Putting his rifle onto overdrive, he repositions to shoot both you - and behind
you, the pizza truck's engine!
Forget you and forget your pizzas! (Solo, Better terrorism
through science, Blaster rifle, combat expertise + physical stress die)
: 1d4+1d6+3d8
23
- 14 d8 effect, and the pizza truck probably won't survive this. Feel free to react.

Activating the 'uncontrollable' limit for 1pp, as per prior discussion, to turn your d10 telepathy into a complication, labelled d10 hivemind.
As the man appears to become less calm after his name his given, instinctively your empathy drive delves further, looking for something-anything- it can bring up to soothe the paitent. What feels like a whole minute passes in a second, as you begin to feel the effects of too many memories not only being received but sent. As your mind frees itself from the traffic, various statuses appear on screen. Temperature: 92. Temeperature: 90. Warning:Pace beyond expected levels. Warning: Unintended leakages from synth skin glands. Warning:Impact in seven seconds. Warning: Leg stability compromised (but there's not external stimuli - your legs are fine?) Warni- is this... Is this what fear feels like?

H.E.S
Two opportunities, which I'll take as a d8 dice. I'll then spend said dice to add the distinction "Set to riot"
Of course, things only get worse as panic sets into the multiple minds - radiation? flashing lights? Death, war, outside, unfamiliar - and so the cycle worsens. Even more so, when once people seem slowly in sync, a stranger wonders up and begins to manipulate one of the more vulnerable people in the crowd. Before you can tell them to stop, they reply in Ernest...

Everyone
"HAIL"
"HYDRA!"
"HAIL"
"HYDRA!"
"HAIL"
"HYDRA!"

The chorus rings out as a unified heartbeat, announcing the resurrection of the beast like thunder cleaving a mountain in twain. The raise as one, they breathe as one, and each time they do so New York screams for a bygone age - one before all of this, one where this fractured, self-serving society was not here. They scream to the sun like a cult screams for its god, but it does not answer.

Someone else does.

Ferrus Manus
"Well, I do suppose this will be an ample testing ground." announces a fellow in an overly long lab-coat. pumping one of his barbed gloves once, the stranger in a gas mask releases a strange chemical into the air which seems to dive into the crowd's veins, making them stronger - faster - more rabid. The beat of the heart becomes louder, wilder. They want something to feed upon - the heads hunger. The man smiles, undetectable to the crowd, slinking into the background.
"DO let me know how stable they are afterwards, do you? I have an assignment to oversee."

The serpent turns to you.

You did not hail.

It rears its head.

Taskmaster
2 PP, 1 XP

Taskmaster winces as the holo-shield winks out of existence. Good takedown, but that last shot - drat. He should've seen it coming. At least the Hornet Hydra isn't going for him. And - that light. That's...poo poo, those two were X-Men, weren't they? At least this one was. Jubilee's...not subtle, and a news addict like Taskmaster learns to recognize flash.

"Hey! That exhibit's set up so if you can make her dodge left, she should ram into some metal sculpture - looked really nasty as I was coming in! You're good at loud noises and flash, it shouldn't be hard for you!"

Taskmaster is, himself, focused on fixing up his hologram. The chaos going on outside is...mostly ignorable. The chanting, though, is a problem. He pauses, checking the noises from his bug. Bullet noises, but no fleshy thuds or screams yet. Okay, good. Still not worth breaking off for. He looks over at the contact, nodding once.

"Not the best of circumstances, I gotta say. Still, I'm ready to keep going if you are. What's going on outside should just be added cover."

As long as he gets his equipment working again, anyway.

1 XP for giving advice. Solo D10, Enhanced Reflexes d8 for good hand-eye coordination. Gonna spend 1 of the 2 PP I just got to double Enhanced Reflexes via Library of Moves, because I need more than two dice here.

Dammit.

There was no other option he looked at the horde staring down at him and, felt himself begin to react.

As muscles throughout the body received signals from the brain the vitalium reacts. Rapidly, musculature was broken down and reformed, ten-fold, one hundred-fold, bones adjusted to compensate for the increased strength in the body, lungs adjusted to increase the intake of oxygen, heart begins to pump at a more rapid rate...

"Solving the problem" said Dell muttering to himself, trying to keep the whole of the crowd in his "There's a problem, a hivemind has a hive center, where is that center?" The crowd began to close in and lept.

'Think on your feet Dell' he thought, and lept for high ground, 'Keep high, find the centre, who is the centre?'

Rolling to create asset 'Keep Off The Floor!', hopping up bus shelters and lampposts, keeping momentum to keep out of reach of the surging mutagen'ed up crowd whilst he looks for the person in question. Solo d6 still applies, using the "I Can Solve This" distinction positively for d8, and using the Mimic d10 power from Organometallic Vitalium to copy the horde's enhanced speed and strength, and splitting it into 2d8 with Versatile for a total of 1d6+3d8.

1d6+3d8 = (5), (3, 8, 8)

Adding 2 d8s together for a total of 16, with a d8 effect dice

Everything was falling apart: her psychic meddling resulted in the creation of a single-minded mob, which consisted of several innocents and her client. And with someone rushing in to calm them with force, it was only a matter of time before lasting injuries formed. Not to mention, her empathy drive's probing and scanning features were going haywire, resulting in scattered thoughts going in and out at random.

[Processing...Database error. Scenario not found. Searching for nearest available match.......Match found. "Riot." A form of civil disorder that results in group backlash against a perceived threat or injustice. Weaknesses...] Please find one... ["Rioters are known to exhibit herd behavior. Scattering the group or forcing individual thought can break apart the temporary bonds that form the pack."] Perfect! Now how to go about doing that...

Viola warps herself onto the podium and claps her hands together as loudly as she can to get the attention of as much of the group as possible. With a deep "breath", she begins speaking to the crowd through the microphone stand while projecting the one working aspect of her empathy drive, her defense modules, to everyone in attendance.

"Everyone! I understand that you are all upset, and that the situation may have pushed you too far! However, violence will solve nothing! Please, take a moment, find your centers, and calm down! Think of your families, what they would think if they saw you right now. Do you truly wish to lash out for something that ultimately doesn't matter and risk harming yourself and the lives of everyone important to you? I know you are all wonderful, rational people, and will make the right decision."

As the shot goes off, Gwenpool freezes in place, one leg raised, one sword arm low and one high, as the shot is close enough for her to feel the sting of heat a moment before the car explodes. Though her costume and hair rustle with the shockwave of the detonation, but she's unflustered. When it comes to guys with no faces, names, and costumes-in-common, she has the troubling, ironclad notion that no mook is going to gun her down! Certainly not the banana beekeepers, anyway. "Nooope.", she replies simply.

Reaction with Solo d10 + Thinks She's in a Comic Book d8 + Enhanced Reflexes d8 + Combat Expert d8 is a 16 with a d8 effect and no opportunities.

Then, she brandishes her weapon threateningly. "Will it be the right sword?" She shakes her other weapon as if waiting to strike. "Or the left sword?"

Finally, though, she lashes out with a straightforward, blunt kick. "Trick question! Faceboot!"

Attack is Solo d10 + Trained By Youtube d4 + Enhanced Reflexes d8 + Combat Expert d8 + AIM Trooper Stress d8 for a 13 with a d8 effect die, and still no opportunities somehow. Also gaining 1 PP for Trained By Youtube, again. And she'll be reacting to the chanting after this.

Dr. Jeffery Andrew Millman

"Hydra? What in Einstein's bushy facial hair is going on? I thought I saw A.I.M. troopers? Are they working together? Is the whole art school some front?" These are only some of the questions that Dr. Millman asks himself as the crowd starts to converge. This isn't the type of situation Jeffery typically handles. The H.E.S. isn't built for combat or riot control, she's built for disaster response. She can put out real fires, not metaphorical ones.

At that thought Jeffery has an idea. He presses some of the haptic buttons in the suits gloves and raises the hands. The tips of the index fingers open up and start to spray fire retarding foam at the gathering crowd.

Time to get inventive. Solo d10 plus I do my best work alone d8, plus d8 from either tech or vehicle (the H.E.S. is just a vehicle anyway?) expert d8 to use built in fire suppression systems to subdue the crowd.

reacting to Taskmaster's action: 2d8+1d6 8 effect d8 - Successfully restored.
It seems as if the situation is under control - the contact begins sending a text. As it sends, it causes your phone to vibrate - most likely, miss Joint has an idea as to whom you are now. Still, procedure is procedure, even if it does sometimes get... interrupted. Speaking of interruptions, Cassedy hears the chanting from the crowd. "That isn't good..."

Jubilee & Gambit
Alright, Jubilee, take d6 physical stress - presumably, the bullets force you to back into a vase or something after making the hook. Also, since d12 complications were applied, she's out of the fight, so no reaction roll from her. Since Iron Hornet is out of the fight, I won't be activating any opportunities. - if either of you spent PP for this roll, feel free to refund yourself.
As the Hornet flies closer, the lights go off, blinding her as her suit's vision systems try desperately to cover the effective flashbang. While she covers her eyes in flight she doesn't cover herself from the impact - from there, she is knocked into Gambit who twirls his staff to floor and apprehend the Iron Hornet, after a bit of stumbling. "Who told you we were coming?" she asks to no one in particular.

Nein Das Boot(Solo+body armour+combat): 1d4+2d8 11ed8 - he's out.
Left sword, right sword, left sword, right sword - aha! While she's choosing, he attempts to rush her to turn this into an MMA brawl - while he gets close, he doesn't go fast enough to avoid being booted in the chest. He clutches his chest in pain - upon confirming he wouldn't require medical attention, he shrugs at the... hero. "A-alright, I'm done. This has gone too south. So what's it this time, police? Murder? Reaction to asset creation: 2d8+1d6 13 effect d8 your asset is created, and you have an opportunity if you want it.
The rioters, though their first thought would be destruction, feel an interference from within them. This gives you ample time to calculate and utilize the improvised runways. As they listen to the words, they begin to mull - until one phrase hits them like a sack of trucks - doesn't matter. doesn't matter. doesn't matter. doesn't matter.DOESN'T MATTERDOESN'TMATTERDOESN'TMATTERDOESN- the horde rekindles its ferocity. There is only one thing which matters - and they shall see it done. You notice the person you were meant to help begin to have chest pains and break out of the trance - the situation just got more serious.

Interrupt by Rioters
Turning upon the lone voice of dissent within the crowd, they begin to swarm upon her, prepared to rip her limb from limb. With one more shout for their glorious serpent, they begin their macabre work, descending upon the isolated element like wolves upon meat.

From his vantage point of a lamp post Dell got a good view of the assembled chaos.

And there it was, if it wasn't where the hive mind was coming from, it was where the hive mind was going to. And it looked like just a girl, one who was about to be attacked by that mob.

He could not allow that, Dell felt his hands change he sheered the post with one hand and melded into the post with the other, this would do.

Leaping towards the center of the crowd Dell shouted "Duck!" and wheeled the post around him.

Dell is going to support Viola's Reaction (I can do that can't I?) by fending the frenzied mob away with an improvised staff weapon. I have a friend now I can use the d8 Buddy dice, hurrah! And this being something I have 'Combat Expert' in, I shall use that d8, and the 'Multi-Talented Expert' distinction positively for another d8. I shall be using the Weapon d8 power from my power set, and finally the d8 asset I have created for 5d8 total.

I'll use Focus on Organometallic Vitalium to turn it into 3d8 and 1d10.

Taskmaster

Frankly, Taskmaster doesn't actually care what AIM is doing, as long as it doesn't get in his way. He leaves dealing with that to the two mutants, instead pulling out his phone and checking it with one hand as he forms a holographic blade in the other. Yep, works now. Excellent. "I really need to get some tech training..." He gestures, dismissing the sword, and looks out the window.

The HYDRA chant is really disconcerting.

"You think? Good news is, with the helicarrier out there, it shouldn't be too long before some capes get in on this and fix it. Bad news..."

Bad news is that will mean a tight timetable.

"...well. I have an acquaintance stuck out there but she seems fine right now." The bug is telling him so, anyway. He gestures over at the pair of former X-Men. "Friends of yours?"
