It's barebones only right now though, not just a case

Is that PCIe riser actually mirror-flipping the connection, or is the motherboard built with a weird upside down connector? Either way, I'd love a case like this with a transparent top. Then put VESA mounting points on the back and get a multi-monitor VESA arm for your desk. Float that case right up there next to your monitor.

Has anyone tried making a case like this, but with another chamber on top for a 240mm radiator?

By the time you're in the market for a cheap M.2 drive, Optane will be the thing to get.

Apparently Silverstone was showing off an RVZ-03 last week. It's like the old Ravens, but the front is more angley, and it has room inside for 4 2.5" drives.

When I went looking for information about it, I came across this page in french:

https://www.cowcotland.com/news/56146/silverstone-rvz03-enchaine-ftz01-e-ml07-e.html

It looks like the ML07 and FTZ01 are both getting -E revisions, just like the RVZ01. That probably means no slot loading disc drive, but more room inside for drives, and enough space for a smallish ATX PSU.

http://www.overclockers.com/ces-2017-silverstone-shows-cases-psus-and-more/

Here's an english page that says the new cases have room for 12" video cards.

It also looks like they got rid of the logo that was printed on the front of the FTZ01, which is great, because why would you even put that there when the case is probably going to be turned sideways.

I'm thinking of going with the RVZ01-E since I'd rather shop around for ATX power supplies since it's easier to find a high quality PSU for cheap, and I'd like 4 2.5" slots (OS SSD, game SSD, game HDD, capture HDD) without needing a shorty card, plus I'm moving the optical drive duty to some video recorder box (which will use my current SFF case) anyway, and I'll live with having an unused blu-ray burner drive since I have a better full size one.

Anyone have a better suggestion?

Wait for the FTZ01-E because it's sexier and that curvel front bezel is just begging for some sort of vinyl mod.

Yeah, pretty much. I was almost all set to buy a Core V21 until I did some math and realized that a Silverstone Temjim is actually smaller.

cubes are still cool though

Can I please get some more eyes on this parts list? Only thing I'm nervous about is whether this is the best z270 motherboard and if I could jam a better cooler in the node 202.

If want to get a better cooler and overclock a bit, you should get a fatter case. Silverstone's RVZ-01, ML-07, and FTZ-01 allow CPU coolers up to 83 mm, which opens up some good options, like the Cryorig C1 or the Raijintek Pallas. Some people say that you can get pretty great cooling by getting the Pallas, then popping off the slim 140mm fan it comes with and putting on something beefier, like a 140mm Noctua.

Woah, Noctua industrial fans? Okay. Those are pretty good fans. High end, super-powerful fans like are actually very quiet when they run at low RPM. You'll probably want to take steps to make sure they never run at full speed, though, unless you want your room to sound like an aeronautics testing lab.

Is there much difference between cpu cooler heat sinks? I currently have a Tt frio 12 cooling my i5-6600k and I'm running some fairly large simulations that take 10 hours to complete so I tried OCing a bit and even putting it to 4.2 GHz caused it to get to about 70 C which is a bit hotter than the recommended 64 C. I'm considering getting a new cooler (Noctua CPU Cooler [NH-U12S]), but thought it might be better/cheaper to chuck a fan on the other side my current cooler if the shape of the heat-sink doesn't make much difference

That heatsink is too small to get any benefit from a second fan. Also, an NH-U12S wouldn't fit in that case. The best air cooling you can get would probably be an Noctua NH-D9L, which is actually two heatsinks sandwiched around a fan. More heatsink always works better than more fan. You would see a few degrees of improvement, and maybe a couple more if you stuck an extra fan on the front of the Noctua.

Source: all these numbers

Oh, hang on, there's the Be Quiet Dark Rock TF. It performs as well as the D9L with two fans, but costs less.

Actually, hang on again. Don't get the Dark Rock TF. I wanted to see what that would look like, but apparently nobody has ever put that heatsink in that case. Probably because there would be 9mm of clearance at the top for the fan to pull in air.

Good thing he put that extra sideways fan in front of the heatsink. Wouldn't want those cables to be starved for airflow.

Here's a direct comparison between them:

http://www.coolingtechnique.com/recensioni/air-cooling/ventole/1673-recensione-prolimatech-ultra-sleek-vortex-e-vortex-aluminum.html?start=6

The site is in Italian, but the charts are easy to read. The cryorig fan does a bit better, but then the Raijintek Aeolus (the fan on their Pallas heatsink) stomps on both of them. It looks like the Vortex Slim 14, the Cryorig XT 140, and the Raijintek Pallas are all slim 140mm fans with 120mm mounting holes. I'm not sure how much creativity you would have to apply to make those fans fit on that heatsink, but it doesn't look too hard.

Coolingtechnique also has a youtube channel where they record fan noise, it's oddly addicting. Here's what those three fans sound like:

My SUGO 13, being the sub $50 scrap of metal it is, doesn't have any dust guards on three of its vents. This is a dumb question, but will buying sticky/magnetic dust filters for each vent keep dust out? And will it harm airflow in any way? The case is pretty much perfect and I plan on keeping this setup for the foreseeable future, but the case isn't too much fun to work in, so id like to avoid frequent dusting if possible.

Your fans will have to work a bit harder to pull air through the filters, so the system might be a bit louder. You only need filters over your intake fans, though. Filtered intakes and positive pressure is the way to keep a case clean. If there is more intake than exhaust, then the case will have positive pressure while it's running, which should repel dust.

That Cryorig kickstarter makes me want to run my own kickstarter for an adjustable stand with cute wooden legs.

In taller news, Phanteks made a pair of skyscraper ITX cases called Shift and Shift X.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GRCUIHtUnM

It has the 'gpu wrapped around the bottom' idea of the A4, but with tempered glass side panels, cable management features, airflow, and room for storage. The video seems to show room for 2 2.5" drives behind the back panel, and 1 3.5" drive behind the front panel. There could be room for more in the bottom chamber, I dunno, the only info about this case right now is this one youtube video.

The smaller one is 22 liters, and costs $109. The bigger one costs $159, but at 30 liters, it's way past anything that would be considered SFF.

/edit - if anyone wants to say that 22 liters doesn't qualify as SFF because Intel's specifications say 20, I refer you to Silverstone's nuh uh, it just has to be under 23 argument

They've got a prototype FTZ03 that uses the PIO motherboard form factor, and a prototype RVZ04 that uses MicroSTX.

I also found this video that looks around the entire Silverstone booth. The guy takes a good look at these prototype cases, but unless you speak Thai, the commentary won't do much for you.

This looks pretty great. I've been thinking lately about setting up an aftermarket GPU cooler with an intake shroud, but this looks a lot more compact than the 5-slot solution I was dreaming up. How well do the fans line up with the bottom intakes? Whats the deal with that flat bit over the heat pipes? Did you have to modify the Accelero?

Anyone have strong opinions on either of these cases, or have other suggestions?

If you're looking at big air coolers, you might end up thinking that the TU150 is the only choice, because it has a few more mm of clearance (165 vs 162). The bigger air cooling options (Noctua NH-D15 or Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro) are up there at 165. If you look around PCPartPicker, though, you'll find plenty of photos of people cramming those huge heatsinks into their Nano S without any problem. Fractal puts a conservative estimate of CPU cooler clearance on their spec sheet, I don't know why.

These two cases each have their perks. The Fractal case let's you use a regular ATX PSU, which is nice. The Lian Li has air intake for the GPU, which is hard to say no to. I like to mod my GPU with full-size 120mm fans, it really cuts down on system noise while gaming.
